like everyone has said already, communication is huge, particularly regarding their characters, motivations and what they actually want to see. someone who doesn't mind tackling shades of grey and more complicated ideas (corporate rivalries, families with baggage, relationships that have failed and need to be stitched together.) give me something tricky, give me something to work through and figure out. challenge me! it's the only way i feel like i can improve tbh.
i also think for myself, someone who's adaptable, who understands that sometimes threads take unexpected turns, that chemistry might not work at all or might work better than expected. i live for the surprises in rp, both good and bad, and having friends who are enthusiastic for those too are the absolute best.
also if you're happy to let me chuck aesthetic images at you, sad poetry related to our characters and cry over pinterest boards together then you are my rp soulmate.
Ditto on the romance plots — bonus points if they're dark/unhealthy/toxic power struggles~ I actually have a harder time replying to threads that don't have some potential for romance (or, at the very least, sexual tension). It makes me feel bad, but like... ships tho.
I'm also complete garbage and love smut bless jcink premium... but that being said, smut for smut's sake that doesn't have any lead up or plot/character development significance bores me. So yeah, I tend to look for rp partners who have the same lack of limits that I have, but who still prize the plot and development over everything else.
Just adding onto all the shippy things I referenced above; I really like it when people take the time to understand the ins and outs of my character's quirks instead of just immediately slapping a trope label on them and liking or disliking them because of that. Like, I spend a lot of time creating my characters in a way that I like to think is unconventional/unique (even if it's probably not and I'm just making myself into a special snowflake), and I want people to understand that my characters are more than the first impressions they give off. tl;dr for this paragraph: I want people to care enough to really get to know my characters and get excited about them. I need that sweet, sweet Validation™.
Also. I'm vain af so anyone who can make me feel Special™ will be able to get me to roll over on command. (Did I mention I'm garbage? Because I'm complete and utter garbage).
forte - give me all the toxic and unrequited love in all the world please.
707 & Máscara de Tigre - Gimme all the roomance plz lol I am such a romance slut D: Honestly, I will make a character that is a total bad ass but she isn't there for fights - she is there to fight for your heart lol I'm horrible. Legit trash tier romance over here.
unpopular opinion but someone who actually posts and doesn't just talk about posts. like don't get me wrong nerding about charas on discord is rad n all but i want my plots to gO somewhere. i know rl is a thing, heck i'm mia for weeks on my bi yearly road trips where wifi's non existent, but idk man. if u read one page of a book every month, how will u ever finish? u won't. and maybe plots aren't meant to be finished per se, but ugh i want that excitement of getting to the first kiss. i want that fun of rping with somebody who's as into it as i am and-- why do i feel like i'm writing an okcupid app?
...other than that, i love finding rp partners i can be real with. obvs it takes time to build that kind of connection but it's so worth it when u find that person u don't have to use awkward small talk with
somebody who has a similar sense of humor or who at least gets mine is goals too. i love making people laugh! i love making myself laugh! and most of my charas make as bad of jokes as i do
the thing i mostly seek out is enthusiasm. and i don't mean just getting excited over the promise of interactions.
like, i need you to be there with me, meeting me with those memes. those song lyrics. the random scenarios that pop into your head in the middle of the night. hand them all to me and i will return them with interest. (also, be open to me randomly bombarding you with the same. 'cos i am always relating my characters to things like that!)
i don't mind it when people are just like, i like so and so, maybe we can test out such and such. but once we get there, you gotta know that it's gonna be all or nothing with me. if we're not feeding my muse with delectable bites, it's just gonna fizzle. and then what will we have? a big pile of disappointment.
perhaps i just invest too much of myself into my characters but like... these are the concepts that make the writing come to me more easily. this is what makes my muse. this is what i always seek out.
(also, though, someone who can generally have a good time. heavy plottage is nice and all... but we gotta balance it with some nice fluff on occasion, feel me? even heartless bastards deserve a lil somethin' somethin'.)
I know I've found a few of them (two stand out in fact) and one of them was actually my ex... the other one's my current ldr boyfriend.
The thing is, there's also the burnout to deal with and other stuff. I get really enthusiastic and stuff when whoever comes along with me on my writing journey ends up becoming a real friend of mine despite me being in Asia and they're half a world away (literally) and we just nerd out over Discord about our characters and stuff.

I'm not really picky when it comes to people I role-play with since usually the long-term people I role-play with are good friends with me. There are only a few things that can really deter me from role-playing with somebody else.
If the person does not care remotely about their character. There are times where people lose muse, and I can understand that, but when it consistently happens or the replies seem to be carelessly written because they no longer care about that character, I get annoyed. I simply avoid people who are prone to losing muse since I already know I will never be capable of completing a thread with then. I'm a slow replier, so a partner who loses muse before we can even finish a thread is not favourable to me; there would be nothing impactful to affect my character. You could be absurdly nice and sweet, but I could never bring myself to role-play with the person considering there would be nothing to show for it. Some people may unintentionally give me this vibe, but when characters are made before being ignored or deleted for new ones constantly, I'm not going to post with the person.
For me, a partner needs to show devotion to their characters and patience since threads with me are going to take a while to get finished. In return, I would lend my own patience to their reply as long as I know they still care about that character in question. Otherwise, I get zapped out of the scenario and would be more inclined to plot with somebody who evidently cares about plotting with my characters as I do theirs. Somebody who is going to give me a finished product will likely be somebody I approach for plots more frequently, rather than someone who does not care for their character. The other deterrent after this is if somebody is consistently displaying a bad attitude; I come here for fun, not to be callously spoken to. If an individual is being rather rude, I will be less inclined to role-play with them because nobody likes being talked to in a rude manner.
Somebody who doesn't mind how much I write. I tend to write a lot, thus some paragraphs can become unnecessarily long when I attempt to explain my character's reasons behind actions; because I feel the need to explain everything. x.x I also have a strange habit where I will always force myself to have approximately a 150+ paragraph before I launch into dialogue. I don't know why, but having dialogue be placed right at the start always bothers me, so my posts tend to get rather lengthy. Then if I have an absurd amount of muse, this could result in longer posts which may accidentally ramble, thus somebody who can tolerate my tendencies/posting habits is oftentimes preferred.
People who read applications BEFORE plotting with somebody. I love when people read the applications I put days or perhaps months of work and effort into, especially since some characters I make need a few hours of researching depending on age, mental illnesses and various other topics which I would rather research to avoid creating an offensive character. Thus, when somebody decides they're not going to read the application I dumped loads of work into, I get bothered since under most circumstances, they suggest plots that are not even probable for the character. Occasionally, they would even want something particular but will be forced to settle for something else because they refused to read the application to get the basic information. Thus why I would want somebody who reads the application beforehand, since when I plan to plot with somebody I analyze their character thoroughly to get a feel.
