Names you really liked, titles you're particularly proud of, or just any that stuck with you for whatever reason, be they one you came up with or your partner did. Would also love to hear some context for how you came up with them! If you brainstorm multiple for a thread and then pick one, are there any rejects that you still really liked?
Some old ones of mine:
Thicker than water — From the "blood is thicker than water" saying (no covenants here I'm afraid). It was a thread between siblings, hence the implied blood, from a family with a water motif.
Blades of a feather — "Birds of a feather flock together." From google, people of the same sort or with the same tastes and interests will be found together. In this case they were bonding over swords
Mostly because (to provide some context) one of my two main characters is caught in a quandary and doesn’t know HOW to dance yet his thread partners do. The title is such a mood it got used twice, with two different characters that are important to my OC! (one was with his younger sister, the other instance was with his boyfriend)
i like,,,, obsessively decide my thread title ideas tbh. i think some of my favorites as of late had been:
-> "big brother is watching you." which happened to be a reference to 1984 and orwellian dynamics. the context of the thread was a counterespionage plot against, surprise surprise, my character's actual older brother.
-> "the show must go on." this one was for an Intense(TM) terrorist attack thread on a character's big event. there was a shooting, a bombing, what not. i just really like the ominous vibe from the title tbh.
-> and lastly, these titles are actually for two different threads but LET ME EXPLAIN. "go astray with me." and "sway with me." both happened to come from lorde's sober which, aside from being a song i ADORE, are lyrics that go hand in hand. and these threads were for a single ship that i honestly consider to be my top one. the threads were meant to parallel each other in terms of events, which also was why i really really liked the matching lyric dynamic.
bonus: "voted most likely to run away with you." honestly just bc i love miss americana & the heartbreak prince and. more importantly. this lyric from it. (its another thread for the mentioned ship above and it was a flashback to their actual first meeting when they couldn't stand each other but had to work together and scheme against a high profile affluent. it also ends with them being officially co-workers / business partners. so. it works.)
admittedly, most of my thread titles (that i start, anyway) are song names. because yeah. i’m that person.
don’t disturb this groove — karaoke night with a friend. said friend is a player and known for chasing girls. my girl is very tiny and doesn’t look her age and lowkey has a crush on said dude. commence stupidity.
a feeling you thought you forgot — same girl from the first thread morning over the loss of her late mother get attacked by a villain who has heard that the two of them share the same superpower & alias (they both have blood manipulation). unfortunately the plot fell through and the member left the site, but i think it was a great thread!
take care of yourself — a date thread between two goth villains who aren’t good at acknowledging their feelings but are in love anyway. very cute.
lovedrug — about a bouncer comforting and ultimately saving a stripper from a particularly nasty client. nsfw because there’s gore, harassment, and public shooting involved but i love it because the thread is with my best friend 8')
My thread titles usually suck but I love the one my writing partner came up with for our thread on a final fantasy site! I play Fran and they play Balthier. The thread is called "Revenant Wings." Just so fitting! xD
i had beato snap her fingers and unlock the cages of all the animals in sylin city's zoo to cause some mayhem just because she was bored. appropriately, the title is "walk backwards into hell" after a certain iconic tweet.
They / Them
Drowning in a flurry of emotions, come back to the surface stronger.
It's been a couple years now since the board closed, but one of my favourite thread titles was "All the Wrong Places".
It was a story about these two people who should have been friends. They both knew each other since childhood, were present for all the shit moments in each other's lives, and even acted as the left and right hands in a mutual friend's mercenary troupe - but for whatever reason, they just never got on well. They always managed to say all the wrong things, read all the wrong signals, and exacerbate all the worst qualities in each other. Even with the dreamwalking only he could do easing a nightmare only she could have, they just kept meeting in all the wrong places.
I'm a sucker for heartbreak and missed opportunities like that.
