Bruh, getting real tired of the elitists and braggarts that seem to make up a significant portion of this hobby. Like, no one cares that your post hit one thousand words and your prose is so purple that people thinks its grape flavored, Nancy, you're on an RP forum for an IP meant for children. No one cares about how clean and a e s t h e t i c you are, George. So many people always gotta be one-upping someone. Like you mention you've been working on a short story or something and they barge in there like, "Ohohoho, how quaint, I'm working on my novel."
Just tiring, tbh, like they have something to prove to everyone.

purely a selfish and aesthetic opinion BUT when someone for an in-character post doesn't use any kind of template at all not blockquote, not center aligned, nothing! and then they don't color their text for their dialogue, i almost refuse to read it because i practically can't XD No styling > only centered, dfljhdsfkjhs. Parroting, also, that no template > a broken template, or an unreadable one (the only times I'd consider a template 'bad'). But I mostly agree with the bolded/colored text just because that's suuuuper helpful to me when going back and referencing someone else's post when I'm replying to them. Not because I only read the dialogue - heavens no - but I don't think it's unfair to say that there's not a ton of action (meaning, not a lot that my character can react to) in the average RP post (or maybe that's just the kinds of sites I've been on; no shame, I like reading y'all's thought processes as much as I like writing out mine), so after reading through a post the first time, having what's essentially a quick bookmark to what my character should be responding to is really nice. Even if I'm not looking specifically for dialogue, it's a lot easier to remember when an action takes place in relation to when the other character said a certain line rather than in relation to the whole post.
Also... more potential for pretty colors.........
I dunno, though, I guess to keep on topic, uuuuuh. It's by no means a make-or-break deal for me, but I struggle a bit when writing with people who use templates that you need to hover to see the actual post content, for reasons very, very similar to the above where it makes it harder to reference what I'm replying to. I say this as someone who has 100% in the past coded templates (free for use, even) that require you to hover to read the posts. I'm so. I'm so sorry. OTL

Hear me out - there should never be extreme RL wait times tied to mechanics for your site. The maximum amount of time someone should have to wait for something tied to a site mechanic is a week or two at the most. When you put something ridiculous like 4-6 months of RL time in place for something on your site you're doing more harm than good.

Kinda happening to me right now somewhere. And then if they don't come back we gotta figure out how to either NPC them or boot them from the role ICly. lol sometimes roles in general are just chaotic.

i've said it before, but i'll say it again - it drives me bonkers when sites don't have an embedded discord visible on the site for me to be able to view the chat without joining it
having a cbox to be able to ask questions mitigates the annoyance a touch, but listen, i just want to be able to see if a community is over here talkin' smack about, idk, my girl lappy over here before i start committing to joining rather than after the fact, y'feel

Maybe I'm weird but I really prefer one on one threads with people with multiple characters, rather than threads with multiple people involved. I mean I'll still do event threads and things like that with lots of people, but there's something about plotting with other people that have lots of characters and everything can just keep the story flowing. Too many people in a thread just slows things down I think, and it bugs me when that's all people want to do to move plots forward instead of one on one things.

that sucky catch-22 of losing interest in rp stuff (plot / character / site) because you're waiting on stuff to happen but nothing's really happening because there's not a lot of interest to try to get things moving for whatever reason (want ad limbo, slow partners, people on hiatus, etc)
aka plot limbo sucks and i hate it and it's a vicious cycle that just ends me slowly tbeh

when people tag you to let you know they are actively working on a post?? like that's cool and all but i'd rather you tag me when you're actually done and have posted it. when this happens, i always get a second tag stating they are done and like, idk i just don't like getting that false hope of having a post but it's just them letting me know they are WORKING on a post rather than it being one??

Days without posts and then suddenly everyone floods you at once. You'll go weeks without posts in some threads only to have everyone reply and you go from like 2 active threads to 20 overnight haha.

"this is my character they're bisexual" [ 98% of their romantic interactions are exclusively with male characters ] almost choked on my drink LOL i feel like this happens bc more ppl write bois and we're not going to unpack that rn and on any given site there's usually like 4 active female characters who don't have an endgame (double that if i'm on site) vs a larger dating pool of bois so like it can also be a numbers thing but like. u know it's not always a numbers thing rp peeve is those situations when you're like...you write a character who's lying and u mention in the prose that they're lying and then ur threading partner's char Suddenly Knows They're Lying like :thonk: now i just yank that fuckin context out, if u wanna play a sherlock homes u betta think like one bitch

"this is my character they're bisexual" [ 98% of their romantic interactions are exclusively with male characters ] only problem i have with this is if the character is a flirt but like never wants to even interact with women at all. i personally don't make sure my bisexual characters show interest in characters of the opposite gender because like sometimes it just doesn't come up in RP. a good majority of my characters are monogamous, too. like there's one character i always play with her SO. she's bi. but i will never actually RP her with a girlfriend because if i'm playing her, it's with that partner and we have that endgame. but like..... she's still attracted to women, so it'd be wrong to go "oh she's heterosexual because she's married to a man and that's not changing in RP" because like.... that's textbook bi erasure... used against real bi women to exclude them from wlw spaces... but there's definitely some element of misogyny when it comes to interacting w/ female characters, and fetishization of mlm experiences, which i am gonna assume this post is about lmao.

i could go full kuroya with a response here (MEANT ENDEARINGLY LOVE READING THEIR POSTS LOL) but tbh i think my main thoughts on this topic are:
is rp fundamentally about having fun, so you should ship with whoever the fuck you wanna ship with and feel no remorse for doing that? yes. does it suck to be a lesbian in the rp community and to barely ever see prominent wlw couples on sites? also yes.
rp peeve: having to write my replies down instead of just being able to vulcan mind meld with my computer and make a post appear in google docs
