people will always walk the path with least resistance and more familiarity.. jcink resource sites may have more barriers to user engagement imo — you have to click into individual threads to know what people are talking about, whereas on pb’s built in recent posts function, you’re in the know without trying and can tune in more if a stray post interests you. keeps the conversation alive, as well as the community feel more visible.

but pb as a resource site, or just pb coding in general, have a huge barrier to even start learning how to code. we already know the reasons for that so we don’t have to rehash it ig. jcink resources are generic resources like w3school. pb resources… will have to be sourced by its own community, but i think we only have a handful of pb coders now, esp since the rlpc moved on completely to jcink, and with more coders being more familiar with ‘base html’.

for what it’s worth i can try implementing recent posts for the jcink skin, Neko, as well as the other installations/features if you need an extra pair of hands. if it fails then .. well, you tried!! it does take two(community + staff) to tango. you can maybe also try a survey to see if people really wants to learn coding anyway, since it’s usually not people’s cup of tea. we’re mostly writers first and foremost, and people here for the community != people here to learn how to code and all that.

more sites are on jcink now though, so it’s up to admins if they wanna move forward to a completely jcink platform… and cutting the cord for pb. because if pp still works and people are still posting here, why would i make the effort to register an account there with no chatter, etc.

imo.. with more sites being on jcink now, it does seem counterintuitive that our base community is on a pb platform. if we want more people trying out coding,,, then the answer is obvious. community-wise then it’s not my place to say. idk if i’m even qualified to write tutorials and stuff since i’m not super good at those hot aesthetics, but… given a choice, i’d rather eat a bullet over doing a step by step guide @ pb for a simple template.

I've noticed very few people ever describe the smells. Why is that? I wonder what results we'd get if we took our old posts and rewrote descriptions to use senses other than the ones already used in the post.

Macchiato  animanga roleplay communities have been around since 2000, and probably before that too. It was predominantly dark skins back then, though, and the epitome of coding was a html table at the top.

I know a lot of people say this but animanga isn't the only group that uses this resource forum. A lot of proboards mainly centered content still uses P2. A lot of sites even on PB still link to and use it. I understand that people get frustrated (Honestly I get frustrated myself of hearing it or seeing it since well, I have offered time and time again to skin, admin, etc a site and that always gets dropped no matter how much people decry this platform- which btw thank you for the offer, I have tested around with your code and it was very well done and I would use it should anyone take me up on this offer to skin something better) but this is a tried and true issue that the site has always run into.

I get that people certainly have their like of both or one of the platforms. I get that some people vehemently hate PB - but I am seeking to consolidate and bring new life to each platform and bolster the community and am not here to hate on one or the other. If people would like to work with me, reach out to me! I promise despite the 800 people who think I have teeth for eyeballs, I assure you, I am more afraid of you than you are of me.

I still wish Jcink had a better "Participated" and "Recent Threads" page, so I could actually keep track of my current threads and take a gander at other threads more easily without having to mess with filters. Also a WYSIWYG editor, please...

Other than pixel, i haven't seen any animanga based resources our there. and i know that rl and original use pixel also. i do feel that it would be good to have a pixel adjacent jcink site. while the communities are very similar, it would be good to have at least the code resources split across both for ease of access, but i also know it'd be an absolute hassle to get it going. however i wouldnt be opposed to seeing it happen or helping out where i could.

Yeah, the default is admins have to approve all name changes, but it's not difficult to switch that setting off.

I've seen a few jcink comms try to take over the space that cttw left, but they're all rl oriented, so I never had any interest in joining them.

I've seen a fair few resource discord servers for coding (that's roleplay forums oriented) that has worked fairly well, and I had thought about how it would be like if the animanga rp community just fully migrated to a dedicated server. But (and a big but) it's harder to submit your own resource (e.g. templates) without linking it out to a CodePen or some other browser-based text editor and there's just something about the charm of forum posting instead of being terminally online on Discord to interact with every single thing.

But if I'm being honest, with the current tools at your disposal, Discord can replicate forums, threads, etc. and I can see why there's a shift towards Discord as a roleplaying platform in general.

To kind of tack onto this I'm so sorry, Neko, if this isn't related enough to warrant the quote, I'm absolutely for a Jcink community hub so long as its existence doesn't immediately undermine P2's as one of, if not the only active Proboards community hub. I'd be happy to help with setup + skinning for a Jcink resource, but I guess with the asterisk that there's some form of partnership or something with P2 that allows for them both to exist simultaneously without one immediately overshadowing the other?

(I mean, inevitably, people are gonna be drawn to the pretty-shiny of a new site, so some overshadowing is inevitable, but -) If the creation of something like that could be more of a 🤝 between hosts rather than "reblog to kill Proboards faster", that'd. That'd be the ideal. *sweats*

One of my main issues with Discord resource hubs is this:

Discord already going that route. There's an announcement weeks ago saying all imgs submitted going to be temperorary and after certain amount of time, it will deleted off the server.

Also regarding jcink resource hub, I am absolutely love to have it. Pb is great but the fact the coding language is different makes me @.@ when i try to submit my resource. I am fine with having pb resources and jcink resources seperated and keeping them in respective sites. Heck, if u need help staffing, i can pitch in. I had experienced manning jcink reaource sites in the past b4 my hiatus.

off the top of my head, just using jcink’s webpages to compile the all-u-need-to-know basics would help tremendously(stuff like style hierarchies, debugging methods, common html ‘bugs’ and their fixes(like that pesky position sticky plus overflow bit, absolute-relative)), since i think most members have ideas but don’t really know how to find out what’s wrong, or how to find their way to their answers..

then the rest of the board could be strictly other resources + testing threads? no chatter… it might make it seem dead-ish but at least pp won’t…?

it’s absolutely possible to do that in pb threads yeah, but i think all the information being spread out makes it difficult to take it in unless you reaaally know what you’re looking for.
a starter’s guide sounds cute, and then maybe an intermediate one (but i suspect this isn’t necessary because after you learn the basics, it’s all experimentation methinks)
