What was your first chat and/or forum RP? What genre was it/were they? How did you find it/them?

A naruto rp on invisionfree called Way of the Ninja. I was about nine or ten, and obsessed with Naruto when it was still brand new and airing regularly on toonami. I was into role-playing games in general, and spent a bunch of time on online browser rpgs like Dragonfable, so I would occasionally search "Naruto rpg" on google, and eventually stumbled upon that place; it had a battle/stat system where you had to put pre-approved jutsu into your posts if you were using them, and the assumption, of course, was that everyone would copy and past them. I was so young that I hadn't learned how to copy and paste yet and took forever to write fight posts. It's funny to think about.
Anyway, yeah, Naruto. When that place died down, I was desperate to keep rping and found a high school site through RPG directory, then was introduced to gangnam style, a number of other resource sites, somewhere down the line came wicked-wonderland, and now here, at pixel-perfect. Been a long ride.

My first board was Aelyria, a high fantasy one that'd been thriving since 1989. I discovered it in a signature at a questionable locale. When my physical state began declining in 2005, I progressively couldn't keep up. Oh well.

My first RP ever was a chat RP on deviantart and it was called "YAOI (SOMETHING)" I have no idea what the something was. I, being 12 or 13, was like "WOW, PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET MAKE CHATS ABOUT THAT?" (Mind you my uncles are gay and have been married since... before I was born? So, same-sex couples have always been very normal for me, it was the yaoi bit that surprised me because the yaoi manga we had was usually really bad porn XD /crying of laughter/ Admittedly my first and favourite "yaoi" manga back then was Only the Ring Finger knows first volume which didn't have elicit stuff in it). So, I clicked on it out of curiosity and found people flinging sentences back and forth. I was like "WHAT IS THIS???" and they were like "THIS IS RP! COME JOIN US!" So, they taught me what RP was and how to do it, and I made a student on the spot (it was a fantasy high school setting) and they were like "wow, your character is so creative for being made on the spot, I love him so much," and I was like "THANKS!" However, I found the plot and the posts to be pretty boring, so I never visited that chat again. XD I just went and looked for other RP chats until I found writing and stories I liked. After a while, I transitioned to RPing on YIM, MSN, and AIM.
Fastforward many years later (I was about 16, I think), I joined Tallygarunga - which was my first forum RP. Tallygarunga, if you guys don't know it, is an Australian Harry Potter site, but when I joined I had no idea it was a Harry Potter site. XD I think I just googled "place to RP" or something in google search and Tally was literally the only thing that popped up for some reason. XD So, I joined it, and I committed to it. I even asked on deviantart in a journal if someone would join me XD And one of my watchers was like "yeah, I'll join you. xD" And we became the best of buds for a time and RP'd like no other.
It's good memories, bruh. xD I was a little booger but... I had fun.

My first exposure to roleplaying on the internet was when I was crashing on my uncle's futon in his computer room when I was very young. I saw him on yahoo groups doing some sort of D&D game and it had some artwork on it. I managed to skim over some of the words and figured out what he was doing before he caught me being nosey and closed it away for me to never see again.
I hopped on yahoo groups myself in privacy and found some final fantasy forum with lots of one liners and some nonesensical systems. I was probably hilarious to the other people now that I think about it, because I tried to draw my own avatar in microsoft paint as a nine or ten year old.
Yahoo groups started to die out as an rp scene and I put it down for awhile and found a proboards avatar site with a google search, eventually wandering into the animanga community after I brought my spouse into rping.

My first rp experience was on GaiaOnline. I can't remember how I came across it, but I was 18 or 19 and had been writing for years. I think my first character on that site was a wolf tengu who lived under a tree and was later introduced to the concept of showering. It was just a casual fantasy experience, from what I remember. As I warmed up to the idea of rping, I delved into more story focused rps, and within a few months met my oldest group of friends in a Persona rp.
As for Proboards, I found my way onto one of those schools for kids w/ magic powers and whatever. My character somehow had a few girls swooning over her. Was neat.

i think like a lot of people out there (esp in the warriors community), i was introduced to roleplay via neopets. i was like 10/11 at the time, i remember, because it was the summer between fifth grade and middle school. that's also where i began to learn about coding and stuff, tho it wasn't until fairly recently that i could actually write it per se. but for a very long time, i could read code and edit it, and understand what it did. and that was all because you had to be able to design your neopet's webpage for your ocs and guild pages LMAO

got into this pit of no-return through an ooc section in a fandom forum that allowed the members to rp. It was Pewdiepie's broarmy's forum sounds lame but it helped me through the bumpy roads of life, when I was too immersed in his videos, guess I passed through that phase and then, I began discovering forum rps and bumped into Proboards sites. I shouldn't have enter these "fantasy worlds" cuz when you got into this world, there's no returning back xD Like they said on a dearest site of mine, Abandon all hope, ye who enter here ここから入らんとする者は一切の希望を放棄せよ

Wow, Pewdiepie, LV999 no Murabito? Are you pretty new to RPing? (Also, I think I've met a couple of others who started on Neopets, too :3)

I rp'd on Neopets once or twice as a gladiator in PetPet arena, not even gonna lie y'all. After that, in my younger days I did a *ton* of Cafe/Slice of Life chat RPs. It was an amazing social experience growing up and I made way too many friends at the time doing it. Helped me with socializing even today tbh

i lied about my age and wandered onto the roleplay forum on neopets. being someone who loved fiction but could not write for the life of her, i instantly got sucked in. i used to be a real shiddy rper. like way shiddy. i'd join rps and u could hear their collective groan at this dumbass who couldn't write more than one line and wanted a l l the attention.
most of the rps i did there was wolf and gifted human, and then chanced on the link to a wolf rp site. for whatever reason, i didn't want to rp there, so instead i left and immediately made my first rp site at the rip old age of 10/11 called "wolf rp" and some how, people joined, became my friend, and hauled me off into the wonderful world of rp. (seriously wtf guys)

To be honest, my rp experience started on a Naruto site that was on forumotion. I think about it not-too-fondly, but at the same time, I don't even remember how I came across it. I think maybe I found it through Quizilla? (Gosh, I'm really showing my age here, aren't I?) Kind of like how Tiger described his Naruto rp experience, it was sort of like that too with the jutsu system and all that. Of course I didn't understand it at the time, but hey, you win some and lose some. Ask me sometime if you want me to relive my horror stories just from that site alone though. *fingerguns*

...Gaia online, back when it was pretty new. I'd been writing a lot as a kid because I loved reading, but my friend introduced me to Gaia and rping. ...However, she taught me the right way to rp was to use asterisks and actually actively discouraged me from writing more than a few lines lmao.
I played the most edge lord tragic sue dragon ever, with color change eyes. Back then there weren't a lot of cringe cliches, but I swear I played them all.
And then a couple years later I got into the 'advanced literate only: 900word minimum to join' phase on there. Ahaha. Took me so many years to break away from the shame when I dipped below 500w, and now I'm like 'lol, 150 words? great'
EDIT: @dandy , I forgot quizilla was a thing. flashbacks of my middle school cringefest came flooding back to me. And I would so like to hear stories if you ever feel like sharing. There should be a 'my most embarrassing past rp tendencies' thread haha.

My first rp chat... I honestly cannot remember much... I think I started my whole rp hobby on this old as heck chat.. which I think is still up called teenchat. Then it was MSN with some friends... Then my real forum rp started on this site called Gaia online. From there on I dropped off that hobby because as a kid, I was without internet and computer a lot of the time. And about 10 years ago I started up again on this rp site called roleplaychat which I sometimes still rp on. But now its mostly this other site and proboards.... I remember my first proboards site was this realistic wolf rp... then a horse rp, a warrior cats rp, then yea. Theres my rp roots from way back when to my move to proboards.
And lord, sorry for the brick of text.

Hmm my first rp had to be a Kingdom Hearts site back when I was like 12-13 called World Destiny or something along those lines. I was just a horrible writer back then but they weren't afraid to help me improve and that was such a wonderful thing. I actually have no idea what compelled me into typing, "Kingdom Hearts Role-Play." into google all those years ago but it's a choice that I'm actually happy I made.
9-10 years later I'm still actively a part of a community and hobby that has helped me through a lot of dark times in my life. Whenever there is an issue going on IRL I know that I can always hop onto my laptop and hangout with a group of likeminded people who have so far not judged me for being myself. And I honestly think that's one of the most important things I enjoy about being apart of the RP Scene. Is that I'm not judged for my nerdiness but rather it's actively embraced and encouraged.
In fact some of my oldest friends I've met online through Role-playing and not once have I actually met them. Yet I still know that if I got something horrible going on I can lean on them because they're actual friends. It's certainly a feeling that most people don't get or understand but one I'm proud of.
And this totally turned into something else but yeah...Kingdom Hearts xD
