Soooo, I've been reading Trends You Love or Hate thoroughly, and it's got me thinking. What kind of RP trends do you want to see or create, rather than just talking about trends that are already integrated into the RP system that you love or you hate. I've seen a couple posts that kind of touch on this a bit, but I wanted to separate that and have Y'all go into detail. Maybe this thread will give future site-makers some ideas on how they could go about their systems. Then we could get some positive trends going~

Trends I'd like to see: 1. Sites that are made to last; people taking pride in keeping their sites open for 6+ months instead of site-creation hopping 2. Ads with brief description of site 3. More OOC accounts for members! 4. Admitting that one just isn't up to post at the moment instead of wailing about muse5. Instead of hate/friend/whatever, you can give a brief summary (100 words or less) of your character that'll draw a person into reading the app )if they want), then have "journals" where characters can describe their relationships with other characters they've met. (I plan to do this with an upcoming site I'm making_ 6. More plot-driven (almost like a game) sites with events 7. More sites that allow social strife, like IC prejudice (such as monster vs humans, elves vs humans, etc.) and people actually playing up that flavour text instead of saying their char is open minded and caring of all. XD 8. More females as "the big boss" of a site setting. 9. I think I'd like to see bigger affiliate buttons across the board with an easier scale to remember (even a different shape, like a square, might be nice.). I don't mean sister sites, I mean regular affs. Instead of: it could be or

I would love bigger aff sizes too, and I even found an image that shows all common web banner sizes so that could possibly help? Click me! I see a couple button sizes in there that could be possibly used. Honestly, the current sizes we all use are way too small. If my poor eyes have to squint to see what your aff button is even portraying then we have a problem :I

1. older fcs being used, in both senses. older characters in general, as well as older, once popular fcs becoming more common again. remember when everyone and their mom used dogs: bullets & carnage, khr! and vocaloid fcs LMAO
2. simplified post templates. i like and appreciate the effort that a lot of the more complicated templates take to code, but my ass can't read a lot of them tbh,, the font is like 4 points too small for my blind ass
3. can we please bring back making overly designed character signatures because i miss making those
4. less hovers, more 100x100 icons (i have literally nearly 100k icons bls let me use them)
5. everyone and their mother using the lyrics from the song airplanes by b.o.b & hayley williams for literally everything rp related in 2010

So... what's the new aff button trend size? Let's get it going, start putting 'em up along with the normal size yeah? I'm liking the 125x45, bigger size while also allowing for larger sister sites that stand apart.

XD I like the list that Pearl sent, 120x60 being one of the more standard button sizes on the internet, but, like you, I think I prefer the thinness of 125x45 (probably because it's visually closer to the current sizes we use). Maybe I could make my affiliates scroll... and if the bigger button trend catches on, then boo ya? Shall we do? -Rolls off to make bigger versions- (original, 88x31) (biggerrr, 115x40) (bigggerrr errr125x45) (biggestish, 120x60 - a standard size way too big)

...I'm not sure what a tumblr directory is? I don't really know the ins and out of tumblr community stuff but I'd be willing to try runnig something. Is it just 'people submit their ad with links and it all gets tagged properly'? Is there anything specific or special that needs to be done? Let's get something organised and running!

I don't use Tumblr either but I have submitted my advert to some of them. It's basically a tumblr account that's dedicated to posting adverts. There are some that allow animanga adverts. They're kind of set up like AnimangAds except more of a pain... in my opinion, at least. So, they're not really comparable to affiliates. At least, not from the ones I've seen. I'd suggest googling "tumblr rp directory" and look through the ones that pop up. :3 (honestly, I don't think Tumblr is very wise to use in lieu of affs because not everyone uses Tumblr, so you're narrowing your audience and taking it off site, too.) But yeah, I don't see why there can't be both? XD
Also, there's nothing wrong with not having affiliates on your site. XD Not every site has them

u dont need an acct for posting. U can post as anonymous. Moreover u can promote using wanted ads on ur site. U can post upto two times a day, meaning u can spam ads. U can sort using hashtags. If ure not lazy, u can make tumblr for hyping up ur site during creation process. Basically this is what connects rl rps despite them not having affiliates. I mean yea animangads is nifty but idk tho. a well-advertised tumblr directory is better. Reasons being the ad isnt hidden and can be seen directly without sacrificing the sorting system. On pb u can use recent, however that's not really efficient if u want to look for a specific genre. For awareness, simply advertise/link back on sites to spread the word. Not everyone has to use Tumblr as much as not evrryone has to use pb to post on animangads.

Not everyone has to use Tumblr so much as not evrryone has to use pb to post on animangads. First of all, sorry for the huge post. orz And secondly, many RL sites still have/use affiliates. xD I can tell just because some are affiliated to animanga sites, and on top of that their large RP forum directories have also shown plenty still use affiliates. It's also not necessarily a "trend" we need to follow.
A posting directory where you can spam takes a.) time (I can affiliate and keep my button up in plain view, andpost my adverts on top of that), b.) means your advertisements get swallowed up faster, and c.) potentially more difficult to navigate because of a high volume of postings. Even with hashtags. I'd equate that more to advertising on resource sites than affiliating in general. You're basically comparing apples to bananas. Why can't you eat both, you know? Anyway, it also separates the bonds/connections between sites and, asforementioned, takes affiliating/advertising "off-site" to a third-party that only a select group uses. Hyping up people for site creation there is no different than hyping up people for site creation across RP directory forums. If you spread out across directory forums, you reach a broader audience. Doing that at tumblr on top of directories is just broadening your audience, which is great. Promoting just one outlet is like amassing a clique without even realising it. On top of that, not everyone uses Tumblr. Honestly, you might as well make Discord an advertising server instead because more people in our community use discord than Tumblr (I think), and it can be organised and posted to as a guest. But even then, you're still going to a third party and breaking bonds between sites. Not everyone can or will access Discord. In general, including a link to want-ads and other useful links in your ads isn't hard to do, either. I can't really comment on hashtags.
If you don't want to have affiliates, then don't have affiliates. If you want to use Tumblr as your main hub of advertising and make an tumblr directory catered to advertising, then do it up. That choice is yours to make and no one is stopping you. xD It certainly doesn't have to be a trend for you to do it. If you do it, maybe someone else will follow suit. That's how trends start to begin with, yeah?

「イオタ」 u can spam yes but the sorting thru hashtags can make navigation infinitely better. A wanted post hidden beneath threads and board is just not better in comparison to having one out in plain sight. That could be said on the advertisement image too. Ive not heard of anything such as ammassing anonymous accounts into a clique. LMAO. Isnt that the job of resource forum more than a directory? Were using a pb host for both jcink and pb community. Do u imply we need one for each host too? Since theyre both difderent community lol U can just use one code instead of posting on two different codes for jc and pb, the ad isnt hidden under boards too and any infos can be typed unlike affs that just has.... Images. I did not say we should follow it. I did imply on a new prospect of advertising, basically a trend i love/want to see. U dont have to agree tho. Isnt this what the thread is about? THeyre just both form of advertising i mean do we rly have to categorize them? ? ? ?
