- Shipper apps: I know some people love them or hate them but I'm very much in the former, plus posting replies in the other person's shipper is The Bomb, it's so much easier to keep organised/clean from a staffing point of view.
Shipper apps would be a much-loved change I think. It literally eliminates the pointless middle step to making a character. To add onto this, we should also change how shippers are written out. Like... right now it's written like you're just repeating the character's personality, so why not write something new instead? I did suggest way back that instead of that, we just explain what kind of ideal plots would work for our characters in that category specifically? I would definitely do that over having to be like: Me: *writes in bio "Sawyer is a playful jackass to all of his friends, but he still loves them with all his heart."* *gets to shipper and writes "Sawyer is a playful jack-" *to myself* "Wait what? Literally, I already explained how he behaves in his bio." - More experimentation with dev threads, pinterest boards, character aesthetics.
There are so many things I wanna share with people about my babies that I can't do via threading, and this would be a welcome change to encourage us to use more developmental threads. Yes, I'm one of those people that enjoy reading out some kid's journal where he says he got rejected by a girl he likes today or seeing a thread with a playlist of a character's favorite songs. It adds characterization man. You know, the thing that RPers love the most? Or so thats the idea. :I - Things for members to interact with other than posts/threads. Writing competitions and sprees, dev contests, lore submissions etc.
...I'm stealing that idea for my own site, I hope you don't mind. >w> It's too good to pass up. - Someone mentioned older characters and I couldn't agree more. I would love to see a greater variation of characters & plots in general from ages to tackling in-depth plots (politics! bureaucracy!)
I second this motion. There is nothing I want more than to see older characters. Because get this: no one stops aging at 25 unless that's how your lore works in which case, well fuck. Look, I get the psychology around avoiding older characters. We're all either in our teens or young adults. Obviously, we're more knowledgeable of the psychology of people in that age range, so of course, we're going to make our characters either the same age as, or younger than us. But sometimes you just gotta get out of that wonderful comfort zone once in a while. If anything, do some research on middle-aged or elderly people. Besides, a lot of mental illnesses can be explored better with older folks. - More plots, threads, posts, attention for female characters pls & thank.
I'm not even sure why that's happening, tbh. It kind of sucks though because I have, and make, a lot of female characters, and deep in the back of my mind I know no one's gonna care about them as much as they will my male characters. Sounds harsh, but for some reason, it's just a thing that happens???

I'm not even sure why that's happening, tbh. It kind of sucks though because I have, and make, a lot of female characters, and deep in the back of my mind I know no one's gonna care about them as much as they will my male characters. Sounds harsh, but for some reason, it's just a thing that happens??? i mean, it's.... depressingly easy to figure out why. male characters are usually fairly easy to snap up into romance plots, whether it's with another male character or a female character. but let's be real here, most of us love that gay shipping. on the flip side, female characters are significantly harder to get romance plots for, since sometimes, it's harder to tell what's easier to find, the straight man or the lesbian woman. add on top of this disappointment some added lingering sexism in outside media (ie, men typically being given more screentime and more development than women, men having larger variety in their roles and typecasts, women often being held to ridiculous double-standards in terms of characterization, many women serving more as the "token girls" in groups than a legitimate equal member with equal representation) alongside the lingering difficulty of trying to find good faces that have images that aren't sexualized (not that men aren't as well, they are, it's just more acceptable for it to be a shirtless man than a woman with cleavage showing), and it's kind of a recipe for disaster.
on the flip side, it's also kind of funny since i think a lot of roleplayers are female, so it's just. really. odd. funny in an ironic kind of way but. odd.
....... actually on topic though uh. i'd be super excited to see more diverse faceclaims being used! bring some racial and ethnic diversity up into this house!

I think animanga rp is in a bit of a strange position of not existing as its own entity, or being much more insular vs RL sites...
Part of the issue for that is because there are more people who watch TV/movies (and prefer them) with "RL" actors and actresses and much fewer people who watch/read/prefer anime and manga, especially as we get older. It's pretty niche.
Preach it xDD

gitty bless you for reminding me that I have always wanted to use a shipper app. There's a lot of thread types I want to try out and see what sticks, all my DnD campaigns have pinterest boards and it's super fun so idk I may see about doing a general site one as well as encouraging people to make personal ones? I love having writing prompt lists and other games, was already on the To Set Up List aw yeah.

tiefling I thought about that, or rather thought that's how it might look during a "transition" period. :3 But there's a thing called "hierarchical scale" that basically means bigger = more important. ^^; Aside from the sister site thing, I'm not sure if that's such a terribly good idea... I'm not really sure how to convey my thoughts, sorry. ^^; It does look nice, though, with how it was set up. (Also would personally like to stay away from the unrounded numbers like 88, still. Ending in 0 or 5 would be a lot easier to remember.~)

「イオタ」 I feel I should make a joke about the imperial system here w/ that 88 but I'm just making myself laugh about Americanisms now, oops, but I getchu on all fronts. It could easily turn into a whole playing favourites and special treatment and I'm too tired for that kind of social game and would ignore it, I just want people to have options to start making bigger buttons and to see what size people want to move to. Change takes time and all that jazz.

Why not do a vote on it? Put in sizes Y'all wanna add, and see what the majority wants. We could all go from there!
Also, this is amazing, we are already gonna start a trend <3

Here you go, everyone. I made this thread to ask people what sizes they'd like to see in specific. I'll then make a poll with the sizes on Monday. :3 Hope this helps.

Oh man, if people actually did this I'd be so happy. Can we make the font bigger and actually readable again?
My typography is pretty bad, so I've been doing research into best practices for text in an effort to do better, and there's actually been a lot of study on this kind of thing. I generally see 16-18px font (obviously it'll depend on the font though), with 45-85 characters per line (I think forums can get away with more from what I see from professionals though) and a 135%-145% line-height recommended, so I decided to try it on Ascendant and it's been amazing. I can read with 0 eye strain. I don't think I've ever accidentally reread a line or skipped a line of text since implementing it and it all just feels so natural and easy to read. It feels great and I'd love to see it everywhere.

I want to see an rp where there is no staff. No app; nothing to be modded. Just a simple setting and devoted members that are willing to put the time into running events themselves, and building the plot and the world by the stuff they write. I would have hella muse if I didn't have to spend so much time just modding stuff

7. More sites that allow social strife, like IC prejudice (such as monster vs humans, elves vs humans, etc.) and people actually playing up that flavour text instead of saying their char is open minded and caring of all. XD
to take this a step further— which i know is controversial and close to home for a lot of us but— i would like to see it in slice of life set rps (where i spend most of my time), because realistically there are going to be characters with different and conflicting views/opinions/prejudices/ect and not everyone is accepting of each other. how much more interesting would character interactions be if we played on and explored biases surrounding race, sexuality, class, lifestyle.. i just imagine the development and growth that would happen when two characters from radically different backgrounds, who would normally resent one another, learn tolerance or even love through continued interactions that force them to think more deeply? or if fluff isn't your thing— the strife of such a hateship and how it effects them on and emotional level? i realize this would need to be done with a lot of care due to the possibility of offending ooc, but everyone has their own comfort level and it can be discussed ahead of time through plotting, which is what i do regardless before tossing a more bigoted character into a thread with anybody.
Man. This is really something that needs to come back. I thought I was the only one that noticed that characters don't seem to have certain prejudices anymore, and to me, what happens in-character and out of character are two TOTALLY different things, so there should be no offense taken/given. I think that having characters that are from different nationalities, races, and backgrounds call for more diverse plotting and actually just a lot more interest. I really thrive on fluff and the "deep" level of character interaction, or the interworkings of characters and how far I can stretch or skew their comfort level through their threads with others' characters. It also goes without saying (although mentioned before the quoted post) that everyone is making too many guy characters now-a-days. I remember a time where guys were the minority on rp sites, lol. How the tables have turned! But just both of these points goes to show just how shallow some characters are these days. Take my lesbian man-hating tsundere character, for example. She would be an anomaly on most sites because not only is she a woman, but she is a lesbian and has a certain prejudice, which, honestly is hella fun to play out when I get her into a game. I think a common trend needs to be to revert back to character depth, prejudice, and overall diversity. It's something I miss, and I wish some of the rp world wasn't so afraid to advocate these things again. Like, I don't want to offend anyone, of course, but, at the same time, we are all doing this for fun, and what's the point of making a character if they don't have real issues to work through and depth to burrow to, or if they are just going to be cookie cutter copies of most of the characters before them? #bringbackdiversity #bringbackcreativity #bringbackdepth #makeplotsgreatagain

fast, small plots that help move the overall arching story. lot of places have a site synopsis that really never changes. i faintly remember the invisionfree days where the site changed dramatically over a month where you wouldn't even recognize it.

a lack of face claims/optional face claims. people could use aesthetic images (things you can find in zerochan's #original tag, just to give a very basic example) and that's that.
sometimes i see an og illustration that so ~perfectly~ fits a vibe for my character...but i can't use it. and it makes me go bluh.
