There is a real struggle between trying to keep things moving slow so that new members can join, and wanting to put the plot out right now because it explains so much of what's going on. But the site has only been open for like 2 months and that's just not long enough to really start moving things along. I'm more of a slow burn kind of person, or I like to think so, when it comes to plot stuff overall. But at the same time I am incredibly excited and want things to get moving because I think the members will enjoy it. Just gotta convince myself that being patient will work out better...

I've been of the mind that plots come first, in a way. People come along and see a thriving site (even with very few members) and will want to be a part of it - at least more than they would of a site with more people but nobody actually writing. Just my two cents anyway.

Though I'd say site-wide plots are very important too. Giving new people something to latch onto is good, makes getting past those initial 'let's get ice cream' threads easier for some. (me) should have multi-layered stuff going on, like an onion, or an ogre

it is honestly a little crazy to me that the whole scene is so much smaller than I used to think. Stumble onto some random site's Discord - oh hey here's the admin of a site I was on, here's a guy I wrote with once, wait a fucking minute I know that name who were they and then realizing who it was. It's a trip for sure

Makes me wonder how many people have recognized me from somewhere else and said nothing

I've been thinking about Bronze Age stuff a little lately. Generally, not really in reference to a site - though I'd like to see one.

I feel like you don't really see it too often. Only prominent works I can think of are Tyranny (good game) and Earthsea (haven't read them), but the setting could be really interesting in my eyes. I've always been intrigued by settings and societies that seem 'alien' to modern people (in fantasy) and in some regards a lot of the bronze age civilizations feel like that.

The ancient polytheistic religions, cultural heroes, local traditions, 'primitive' writing using tablets and runes and stuff. I don't really like cultural analogues (hmm this fantasy race speaks a latin-y language and has a giant oppressive empire) so creative blending or creation of cultures could help a lot to creating a unique setting.

Anyway, a bronze age site would be cool. Though I'm not really into straight historical writing. So maybe a regressed version of some existing franchise, or something original but distinctly fantasy. Idk how feasible any of that is though and I'm more just singing the praises of something I feel is undervalued in general.
