this is such a cool idea 😭 just commenting to say i swear i have seen something reminiscent to it, except not with last posters per board. it was a site where there's a world map and character locations update on the map depending on which board/thread they last posted in. i wish i had the link...

i wonder if for sprites, you could set up some presets. basically like bald/naked sprites and a handful of clothes/hairstyles and the users pick based on a limited number of options. and then you could always allow players to have a non-pixel art icon of their character somewhere to show the details that don't appear in the pixel art (like how in JRPGs like Fire Emblem, the sprite is generic and there's a huge character render that's more detailed)

when making sprites, i've often used the Spriter's Resource as a reference! they have a lot of sprites from actual games, maybe you could model sprites based on your favorite game there? though yeah there's no getting around that it's a lot of work like you said lol. but your idea is awesome!!

Oh heck!!! I don't know if this is the site you were talking about, but you made remember this place, whose logged in users show up in a little mini world map. For making bulk batches of character sprites, having the bald/naked 'skeletons' was definitely in the plan, but the idea of having presets for people to choose from Picrew style would probably shave off a ton of work, you're so right! Leave the 'skeletons' up for people who'd like to make their own custom ones, as well, but that takes the work from being entirely on one person's shoulders. Depending on the sort of site, too, having a profile field for a full art avatar can help with traditional face claims, or you could put a heavier emphasis on the appearance part of an app and move for face claim-less, since I know a lot of people have been trying to push toward that. With a li'l sprite maker, it might even be an easier sell to people who still want some visual representation. 👀

I tend to look at my RP history with rose-tinted glasses. As someone who's perpetually disappointed with my activity in the RP scene and remembers times when I wasn't disappointed in myself, I naturally tend to think that I used to be a much more proactive writer. But that thread about post counts made me realize - the highest post count I've hit on a single character was definitely within the last five years, not during the 'way back when' when I supposedly was at my RP peak.

I'm now forced to grapple with the fact that I've always been a bad RPer, sdkjfldhsjkfdhkjfdsh.

Tales from the evil RP universe: Instead of a like button, there is only a dislike button. It's a generally accepted rule on RP sites to delete any post that hits a certain number of dislikes, even if it's in the middle of an RP thread. ESPECIALLY if it's in the middle of an RP thread.

I'm so hecking predictable. I wrote this whole post centered on [RP thing I'm embarrassed about] and [how embarrassed I am], thought I posted it two days ago, was overcome sporadically by regret over having opened up even remotely on P2 dot boards dot net, only to open up my computer for the first time since and realize that I never even posted it, it was just sitting in the text editor, completely finished, because I was too embarrassed to commit even then.

Life is just one uphill battle against my internalized shame, and brother, I am losing every day.

Job hunting is the worst, actually, I should be paid instead for having bad taste (and for having exceptionally bad taste, it should be exceptional pay).

I know a lot of people say this but animanga isn't the only group that uses this resource forum. A lot of proboards mainly centered content still uses P2. A lot of sites even on PB still link to and use it. I understand that people get frustrated (Honestly I get frustrated myself of hearing it or seeing it since well, I have offered time and time again to skin, admin, etc a site and that always gets dropped no matter how much people decry this platform- which btw thank you for the offer, I have tested around with your code and it was very well done and I would use it should anyone take me up on this offer to skin something better) but this is a tried and true issue that the site has always run into.

I get that people certainly have their like of both or one of the platforms. I get that some people vehemently hate PB - but I am seeking to consolidate and bring new life to each platform and bolster the community and am not here to hate on one or the other. If people would like to work with me, reach out to me! I promise despite the 800 people who think I have teeth for eyeballs, I assure you, I am more afraid of you than you are of me.

To kind of tack onto this I'm so sorry, Neko, if this isn't related enough to warrant the quote, I'm absolutely for a Jcink community hub so long as its existence doesn't immediately undermine P2's as one of, if not the only active Proboards community hub. I'd be happy to help with setup + skinning for a Jcink resource, but I guess with the asterisk that there's some form of partnership or something with P2 that allows for them both to exist simultaneously without one immediately overshadowing the other?

(I mean, inevitably, people are gonna be drawn to the pretty-shiny of a new site, so some overshadowing is inevitable, but -) If the creation of something like that could be more of a 🤝 between hosts rather than "reblog to kill Proboards faster", that'd. That'd be the ideal. *sweats*
