because we live in a social society where you get places by socialising with people — so the less you can socialise, or the more tiring it is to socialise becomes an issue if you have a goal in mind that requires higher socialisation than you can output.

introversion is also associated with a malady of mental health illnesses that come with being stuck in your own head all the time.

however, it is true that these are natural differentiations that people have to varying extents. pure introversion is not usually a thing, simply because people are social creatures; it’s also not indicative of personality. these are elements that hum in the background of our brains — and yes, in a highly social society, introversion does make it more difficult for me to function because i cannot handle talking to numerous people — in my case, my introversion is a negative quality. but my introversion is also exacerbated by other things and i wouldn’t really even use the term introversion because it describes a vague quality that has no set quantity and is descriptive language that has unhelpfully taken on its own diagnosis — that is to say, it is often an observation of symptoms and there are more exact or accurate words to describe where one’s introverted tendencies arise.

so — introversion is not in itself a negative thing. it’s not really anything in my opinion because it is very much treated as a piece of personality trait. it is a word used to describe certain behaviours or generalise certain experiences that often mark a decrease or higher difficulty socialising in a society with a pressure to socialise. but of course, one’s mileage will vary because introversion rarely looks the same across multiple people.

it continues into adulthood too.
