I really wasn't sure where else to post this, so I apologize if it isn't in the right place! I've been considering opening my own site for some time now, but despite being confident in the actual content, I'm really at a loss as far as the aesthetics and coding go.
I'm willing at this point to commission a customized jcink skin to help me tackle that part of the process, since I neither have the time nor the tools nor the know-how at my disposal to do it myself. But I'm not sure how to go about doing that? Where do I start looking for someone who creates and sells jcink skins? How does the process of buying one generally work? Will the artist who creates it install it for me as well? If anyone could sort of walk me through how to jumpstart all this, or where to look, I'd be much appreciative. c:

i don't do commissions or really do a lot with them, but i will. offer what i do know.
most jcink skinners who do commissions seem to be primarily on tumblr. from what i've seen, different skinners have different setups, much like artists who do commissions do. some simply sell skins that are already coded and some will do full skins from scratch and some will do things in between (like i've seen a few that will do like. main index + boards + info center for cheaper than doing that plus profile + mini-profile + thread list. or people who offer discounted skins that a small number of people can buy so as to bring the price down for an individual custom skin). again, as far as installation goes, it will vary based on the skinner's individual policies, but it seems to be... fairly common practice for them to pass along an xml file and provide limited support for installation (since while they don't necessarily want to leave someone floundering, they also understandably don't want to be committed to constantly fixing coding mistakes on a site they're not affiliated for an indefinite amount of time afterwards or have someone hitting them up every few months to ask how they did xyz thing).
if you're looking to find some, i'd probably start by just browsing "jcink skins" or "jcink skin commission" tags on tumblr and going from there (though i'd make sure to check to see that the skinner is still active before you dabble too much with them), and like i've been kind of saying, i'd make sure to closely read the skinner's individual rules and information to make sure it's going to work for what you want to (and so you can try to protect yourself from paying out to skinners who end up giving a half-finished product or no product at all).
i think the biggest thing i would warn for ahead of time is that, as you might imagine, a lot of skinners are primarily involved with the real life community - which means that while you can still commission them, you might want to make sure you're clear that you're in animanga from the start so you can make sure that things are being appropriately credited as well as see what they're willing to do in terms of graphics (since depending on what you're getting, they may not make the graphics for you for that skin).
like i said. i've never dabbled with it before and i'm not into commissions, but i know some things from seeing some of the commissioners talking about it on other resource sites (and from getting a lot of commission blogs recommended to me for a three month span), so uh. yeah.

honestly,,, will admit i'm a bit unfamiliar with the nitty gritties. i've heard other coders talk abt their process n stuff, but i've never gone through it myself so someone with more experience could answer this better, but i'll try to give you some loose info from what i do know
in terms of installation, it's gonna be case by case. some will, some won't, some will only for certain skins, etc.
tumblr isn't a bad place to peruse. other coding resource places such as ATF (a hundred fireflies) might not be a bad place to put up a request since it might give u a wider pool, but animanga aesthetic coders aren't as common so...
generally, when it comes to buying, you either buy a premade or request a specific commission. normally the coder has a form that you can message em w/ your requests if their commissions are open but some may not and just be fine with you hopping into their messages or something. honestly !! it depends case by case. but normally the coder will have their policies and processes posted up.
it's... def a bit of a case by case, depends on preferences. for ex, in terms of monetary, some might prefer full upfront, others may only require payment after they're finished, and then some got a mix going on. it'll really depend on the coder but again !! normally that info is posted somewhere on their blog.
edit: JSLKDFJLDS WOW I JUST POSTED AFTER KUROYA IM LAUGHING seems like we covered/agree on the same points tho except i did it in less depth----!!! and if that was back in oct or something, that was probably b/c JCINK SKINATHON kuroya v////v

Thank you both! Your answers were incredibly helpful. I think I'll take your suggestions and do a bit of research, but at least I have a solid place to start and some expectations. I really appreciate you taking the time to share what you know. <33

Hey there! I'm a skinner for Jcink and I've done a few commissions. I can provide some more concrete coders for you to help you get your search started.
To start off, currently, my waitlist is open. I limit myself to [2 commissions] at a time, and I'm actively skinning one commission while waiting on client confirmation for the other slot, so I won't be available until maybe in a month or so. Still, if you're still interested, my tumblr is here (sadly I haven't updated it much lately). I've done commissions for Grimoire Hearts, Endorrain, and my personal site Alter/Ego.
I have other coders that I know both personally and from an admirer's point of view, and I can recommend a few other coders in the community who are just as awesome and talented. Please take a look!
von codes — voncodes.tumblr.com/ minnie skins — minnieskins.tumblr.com/ bonbon skins — bonbonskins.tumblr.com/
not sure if open for commissions, but wouldn't hurt to ask / rl-focus / other equally talented coders: summercreates — summercreates.tumblr.com/ montycodes — montycodes.tumblr.com/ essi codes — messicodes.tumblr.com/
Hope this helps!
