i am excited for the lord of the rings series but also wondering how they took the world and adapted it

edit: especially considering how in-depth tolkien made everything and i've only ever read "the hobbit"

- i hope RF5 turns out nice, because SoS was a letdown.

^ i agree

sos lags like crazy as if the graphics weren't ready for the switch & im still bitter about them getting rid of characters' cute little artwork when you talk to them ;-; also the whole crafting situation felt like they tried to make it take more time so you'd play longer but really all i wanted was some lumber and i had to wait however long for just 1

RF5 will hopefully be good. RF4 had such great characters leon, dylas, dolce

I have never watched Haikyuu and yet I just spent 10+ mins watching clips of the dubbed version. I was cracking up. Dubs are usually cringey but the dub worked so well humor wise??? Will add it to my long list of shows to watch.

Why couldn't the eagles fly Thorin and co. all the way to mount Erebor?

Why couldn't the eagles fly Frodo and Sam all the way to mount Doom?

Like I get they need ~filler~ but LOL the eagles could have solved a lot of problems.
Life long questions people have had asked over the years and I honestly do not blame you. but i just wanna nerd out so i hope you don't mind as to why they didn't do it

The Eagles don't take orders from anyone but the Valar (who are basically God-like beings shaped in the thought of Eru (creator), Morgoth was actually part of the Valar until he was seduced to the dark); while Gandalf had the ability to call aid from the Eagles (since he saved Gwaihir the Windlord from a poisoned arrow) but that doesn't mean he can call them for aid for every little thing. The Eagles are proud and quite picky, they will not do something that will endanger them. Plus, the Ring corrupts even the most powerful of all -- not to mention, those Eagles are really huge and the Eagles will die to volcanic fumes from Mount Doom.

Due to gargantuan size, anybody can see The Eagles flying anywhere and everywhere. The skies have spies, depicted in the movie Sarumon has a lot of spies in the skies and Mount Doom also has the same, except they are the Fellbeast (Sauron created these creatures to counter The Eagles specifically, since he couldn't get one himself). Plus, the entire point of the Fellowship was to destroy the Ring in secrecy, having an Eagle go in would destroy all chances of it being done.

As for the first question, The Eagles are not there to help the Dwarves, but in fact are to deprive Goblins of their prey. In the books, it's stated that the party of Dwarves + Hobbit are more than happy to part ways from the Eagles (lest they eat them). If they used The Eagles to go straight to the Lonely Mountains, they would miss Beorn, who made a significant amount of difference in The Battle of Five Armies.

First of all, I am so sorry this is so long,,,,, I really enjoy Tolkein's works and just wanted to fangirl slightly, only slightly.... hahah ;;;;

I literally just read this part in The Hobbit yesterday and you explained it perfectly. I figured it was because the eagles are their own group, they do not owe anyone anything. In fact they probably didn't need to help had Gandalf not assisted them at some point. From what I understood in the book it seemed like they were hesitant anyway but wanted to assist in making the wargs suffer. 8-)

I also watched the movies first and am now reading the books and tbh the book is way better. I recommend giving it a go if you can. The movie tried to stretch a pretty straightforward & fairly whimsical adventure story into a 3 part movie with extra drama, but those are my 2 cents.

Planning on taking a break before I dive into the LOTR books because of their length.
