Throughout mankind, there have been creatures formed and created by the fears of humans. These bloodthirsty monsters are called Devils. New Devils are born everyday as humankind progresses, their fears of the known and unknown giving birth to these creatures in droves. With these creatures forming on Earth and feasting upon humans to sustain their lifeforce, individuals called Devil Hunters arose. Specialising in hunting and employing them. Humans can make contracts with Devils via a sacrifice, allowing them to use the Devil's power. As time progressed, certain Devils moved through the world of humans learning how to slightly camoflague themselves and potentially avoid hunters by becoming Fiends. This is done by the act of possessing a human's dead body. However, one act that remains eternal is that when a Devil is killed on Earth, it reappears in Hell, and if it is killed in Hell, it reincarnates in a new body on Earth.
