a cooperative writing event

[attr="class","post"]In addition to our Spring Bingo event, we will be running a collaborative writing relay event. Participants will submit drabbles based on the last writer's prompt, with the goal to write as many short works as possible before the end of the event. A quick shoutout to , whose beautiful template we used here! The event will proceed as follows:

[attr="class","uuuyee"]ONE[break][break]A prompt will be given at the end of each post for the next writer to use as a basis for their drabble. To participate, reply to this thread with a drabble based on the last given prompt, and remember to provide a prompt of your own for the following participant to keep the chain going.

TWO[break][break]Drabbles may be of any length - and though 'drabble' is the word used, poems and short stories are also welcome applicants. So long as it is a work of writing, and it in some way ties back to the given prompt, it's fair game! Prompts, similar, may be of any nature. If you're struggling to come up with one for your fellow participants, consider using a generator to come up with something simple.

THREE[break][break]At the end of the event, a total word count of all submissions will be converted into bits and divided evenly among all participants. (NOTE: Depending on turnout, the total number of awarded bits may be altered.) The three users who posted most often will be given an additional +10, +25, and +50 bits respectively, and all participating members will receive a ⚑ symbol and special title.

FOUR[break][break]If you've started, or even finished work on a submission for a particular prompt only for someone to post their submission before you, don't fret! Hang onto that submission! At the end of the event, a free-for-all period of one week will open, in which any user may put in a submission for any previous prompt and post in any order.


The event will last through June 30th, after which a week-long free-for-all will be open, as described above. After July 7th, submissions of any kind will no longer be accepted, and the final word count will be determined / awards distributed accordingly.[break]

Much like our springtime bingo event from 2021, entries may be of any nature: writing, coding, graphics, drawing, and any other creative endeavor under the sun. PARTICIPATION[break][break]

In order to participate, please respond to this thread with a tag for and include a color (name or hex code) of your choice. Staff will shuffle the prompts onto a bingo board and edit it into your original post. There's no cut-off for sign-ups, so hop on board whenever you'd like before the end of the event.[break][break]

After your post has been updated, please start a new thread in this board to use as your prompt gallery, and link it to your bingo board here. This new thread will keep track of all your submissions for the event, and can be made to look however you please, so long as all of your prompts are clearly marked; the clearer which prompts you've completed the better![break][break]

When you've completed a prompt, you can mark a square on your bingo board as completed by changing that square's class from UNFINISHED to COMPLETE. PARTICIPATION AWARDS[break][break]

Doing something a little outside the usual. Job hunting has been long, miserable, and going nowhere, but the ideas well is also running dry. Rather than sell completed pre-made skins (of which there are none), however, or take full skin commissions, I will be doing a number of partial skin sales. What the heck is a 'partial skin sale'? Essentially, there is a component of a skin (usually a header area) that I'm quite fond of and would like to finish/have ideas for finishing, the sort that would normally be used for a personal forum and/or sold as a pre-made down the line.[break][break]

For a reduced price, interested buyers may put a 'hold' one of these soon-to-be complete skin designs. Partial skins that have a hold on them will be prioritized over those that don't, and the holder is allowed to make suggestions and requests for unfinished parts of the skin. However, these are not formal commissions; this means that not all suggestions or requests will be met, should those come into conflict with the 'vision' of the skin (basically, any request that would make it notably more difficult to work on it, or completely suck the joy out of working on it). Because of this, you're welcome to drop or swap 'holds' at any point, if an in-progress skin you were holding no longer interests you, and you will be given the option (not expected) to purchase the skin on completion with no hard feelings if you decline at any point. If a 'held' partial skin is completed, but the holder is no longer interested in purchasing it for themselves, that skin will be put up for sale as a pre-made and sold to the first interested buyer as usual.[break][break]

"Okay," you ask yourself, "so what's the point? Why not just do pre-mades?" In exchange for your patience while I work on the coding and the understanding that these are projects that are as important design-wise to me as they are to the buyer, you can have some say in the design of a skin that will cost you less than would be charged for a proper commission. Basically the weird love child of a pre-made sale and a commission. That's about the gist of it.[break][break]

this is such a cool idea 😭 just commenting to say i swear i have seen something reminiscent to it, except not with last posters per board. it was a site where there's a world map and character locations update on the map depending on which board/thread they last posted in. i wish i had the link...

i wonder if for sprites, you could set up some presets. basically like bald/naked sprites and a handful of clothes/hairstyles and the users pick based on a limited number of options. and then you could always allow players to have a non-pixel art icon of their character somewhere to show the details that don't appear in the pixel art (like how in JRPGs like Fire Emblem, the sprite is generic and there's a huge character render that's more detailed)

when making sprites, i've often used the Spriter's Resource as a reference! they have a lot of sprites from actual games, maybe you could model sprites based on your favorite game there? though yeah there's no getting around that it's a lot of work like you said lol. but your idea is awesome!!

Oh heck!!! I don't know if this is the site you were talking about, but you made remember this place, whose logged in users show up in a little mini world map. Completely forgot about them until you brought it up, but - if whoever coded this site sees this post for some reason, know that you are a legend. ToT/

For making bulk batches of character sprites, having the bald/naked 'skeletons' was definitely in the plan, but the idea of having presets for people to choose from Picrew style would probably shave off a ton of work, you're so right! Leave the 'skeletons' up for people who'd like to make their own custom ones, as well, but that takes the work from being entirely on one person's shoulders. Depending on the sort of site, too, having a profile field for a full art avatar can help with traditional face claims, or you could put a heavier emphasis on the appearance part of an app and move for face claim-less, since I know a lot of people have been trying to push toward that. With a li'l sprite maker, it might even be an easier sell to people who still want some visual representation. 👀

Consumed by the idea of a pixel art site theme where everyone's uploaded account avatars are li'l sprites of their characters, and the IC boards are set up so that the little pixel art representing the board, yes? Loads the last poster's avatar (a sprite of them) in such a way that it looks like the character is hanging out in the location. Like, a coffee shop board that's got a picture of its storefront visible on the homepage, and the last poster's sprite shows up inside the shop window like they're inside, AAAAAAAAAAAAH.

i've been having some pretty dark thoughts.
I tend to look at my RP history with rose-tinted glasses. As someone who's perpetually disappointed with my activity in the RP scene and remembers times when I wasn't disappointed in myself, I naturally tend to think that I used to be a much more proactive writer. But that thread about post counts made me realize - the highest post count I've hit on a single character was definitely within the last five years, not during the 'way back when' when I supposedly was at my RP peak.

I'm now forced to grapple with the fact that I've always been a bad RPer, sdkjfldhsjkfdhkjfdsh.

Tales from the evil RP universe: Instead of a like button, there is only a dislike button. It's a generally accepted rule on RP sites to delete any post that hits a certain number of dislikes, even if it's in the middle of an RP thread. ESPECIALLY if it's in the middle of an RP thread.

I'm so hecking predictable. I wrote this whole post centered on [RP thing I'm embarrassed about] and [how embarrassed I am], thought I posted it two days ago, was overcome sporadically by regret over having opened up even remotely on P2 dot boards dot net, only to open up my computer for the first time since and realize that I never even posted it, it was just sitting in the text editor, completely finished, because I was too embarrassed to commit even then.

Life is just one uphill battle against my internalized shame, and brother, I am losing every day.
