SEO is all over Etsy and, honestly, I thought it was primarily a shop thing. Turns out, SEO could be a thing for RP sites, too. At least, in theory. I don't know. I can't SEO to save my soul anyhow! XD
What are your thoughts on this, and do you think it'd be useful? Should we do it? If so, how would it work? (I did ead that first links/link backs are flagged as spam, more or less, in search engines so it's not great for sites doing SEO but... I am... an ignorant nub in this. Please share your wisdom with me.)

Did you ever figure out anything more about this? Have any success? I'm kind of investigating the same thing for myself. I definitely want to hit page 1 to help myself get some members outside the proboard ecosystem as well as some from within.
Any other tips you picked up on?

Yes and no, to put it concisely.
At length: yes, but I don't think anything actually worked.
A couple of things I "learnt" (though I'm not sure are true or work) 1. Some place suggested adding in a meta description in the boardwrappers (jcink) under title:
<meta name="description" content="your rp description" /> <meta name="keywords" content="seo, seo, seo, seo, etc," /> But I haven't found it to work because I only see one link to us from RPG-D when I type in our seo. Though, maybe my SEO sucks.
2. Search engines find the link first/link back nature of advertising on forums to be spam - supposedly. I don't know if that's true, though. Someone else might be able to tell you better. After months of not doing first/back link advertisements, though, I haven't seen any improvement on our presence in search engines. (That being said, I have actually seen more guests show up by focusing on affiliates and posting our ad to as many resource boards as possible for way less effort and time consumption.)
If anyone has suggestions or ideas for this, it'd be really interesting to read about.
