So I have been creating a dragon rider rp set in a victorian-esque era (non-earth world. maybe modern instead of victorian, idk yet). I don't have all the information flushed out since I'm terrible at world building, but here's what I have so far to see if anyone might be interested.

Instead of focusing on rider-to-rider relationships, the focus would be on dragon-and-rider relationships. Riders and dragons would be played by separate people as the dragons wouldn't be reflections of their humans and the rider bond would form over time before the two players may opt for a 'bonding ritual' to give them the perks of a full bond. Or if you have a rp partner already, you could create a pair with them right off the bat. (Of course, if someone wanted to play a dragon and their rider they wouldn't be stopped, they'd just have to app the two separately though creating a rider candidate or a lone dragon would be far more encouraged!)

Dragons aren't everywhere they are about 1 dragon per 60k humans (so there are roughly 20k dragons in the world), riders tend to stick to rual areas to give their dragons plenty of space.

There is a thing called a 'false bond' (name in progress) which a human can forcibly bond with a hatchling but it damages the dragon and is highly illegal.

The tech would be that of mid victorian era, rather than the standard fantasy medieval era would think dragons would be in, in a world with long winters and short summers. That is about all I have of the world's setting so far.

Currently, I have the skin as a wip on jcink but if I get enough interest I'll port it over to proboards instead.

So yeah. That's what I have so far without getting into dragon growth stages and what a rider bond grants. Let me know if you are interested or have any suggestions. I would love assistance on world building if any one would be kind enough to toss ideas at me

welcome and well met, my brave little spark
I'm rereading the Temeraire series atm (amazing dragon rider books set in the napoleon wars time period), so my interest in this is piqued. ♥

How about 'forced imprinting' as a term?

Yes! His Majesty's Dragon is actually part of the influence I had along with Dragon Heart and Pern~ so happy to know I'm not the only one who's read Naomi's books! I think i'm a little obsessed with dragons and dragon rider stories

Forced imprinting sounds better to me than false bond, thanks for the suggestion!

what do you want to know? my height, hobbies, quirks, the color of my underwear?
i'm vaguely interested (ish) in this idea, but honestly i'm mostly here to drop a tip/concern by since i didn't see it mentioned in the op.

since i don't see a lot of people taking the dragons without being actually significantly prompted to do it (just for the basic factor of it lingering p close to animal rp, not that there can't be crossover, but you know what i mean), i'd actually maybe recommend letting the dragons be able to shift between their dragon form and a "human form" (or at least a humanoid form) for camouflage among the humans or something (maybe to avoid hunting / other persecution from humans?). that way you can actually let people pick up dragons if they want to without forcing them to only play a giant fire-breathing flying lizard.

i'm generally more a fan of high fantasy types because i was the eragon and forgotten realms nerd as a kid, so, uh. yeah. i probably won't be on board even if i have time. it is a regret.

I was actually debating about allowing dragons to polymorph into humans. It would have some time restrictions for sake of story telling and might make for some good rp scenarios but it wouldn't be like an enforced hard rule or anything. It's just a balancing debate at the moment?

I freaking love high fantasy too. Have you read R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt series? it's good but insanely long
