Nevermind, Texas

The town was never meant to sustain a civilian population, in fact, up until sometime in the 90s it didn't have a population at all. Or, that's what the government liked to tell people at the time, but anyone who drove the longest stretch of desert road had a story about that not-a-town. Strange lights over what seemed like a completely abandoned Walmart, a constant hum that plagued the nearby towns to the point of abandonment, the name came from a joke spread through trucker circles, "nevermind", the same sentiment the government answered with anytime the town came up in public interest.

And then one day it seemed to vanish completely, an entire town off the face of the map with nothing but a stretch of road left behind in its place.

People settled into their routines, time and life have moved on and the story of Nevermind, Texas faded into local urban legend.

The Premise

In 1995 the town suddenly vanished off the map, opinions on what happened were split between the government finally pulling the plug on whatever operation was going on there, and the town never existing in the first place. Originally built up as a cover for a research operation into what the government saw as a 'weak point', through the meddling and prodding of the scientists on sight, something opened up and swallowed the entire town whole. For years it was just the scientists and military personnel clambering for a way to return, and then the first unlucky civilian drove through, and another, all heading through the long road only to be swallowed up and absorbed into the town.

The site takes place in 2022, but the town is stuck somewhere in the middle, with a 90s aesthetic and design. Smart phones don't work, computers and tablet brick the moment they're brought into the town, the only thing that seems to work are analog devices and whatever the Researchers have in their facility. Information about the world outside is fairly unreliable and dependent entirely on word of mouth from the unfortunate who stumble into Nevermind.

Despite the unorthodox foundation, the residents who have come to call the town home have settled into a completely normal way of life, if you ignore the cosmic horrors in the local Walmart, of course.

Features

- Jcink, may start out premium if I can swing it
- no word counts, no post matching expectations
- No activity checks, we'll probably do roll calls just to clean up but no one will be punished for missing it
- Humans only, though the longer they stay there the more they'll be allowed to show some signs of strangeness, everyone will stay pretty much completely human
- The vibe is analog horror, gravity falls, welcome to night vale, creepypastas, SCPs and the like, where the world itself is the strange entity
- Background shady former government entity called the Foundation
- A slice of life small town vibe with an undertone of horror, you'll be pretty much open to putting your characters against whatever you like(open to people using SCP lore and other similar stories)

The only thing I've been iffy on is real life faces or mixed, regardless of what I decide to do there will be an option to just not use a face claim and instead use aesthetic images, but I'd love to see what people prefer as far as RL Face Claims Vs. Mixed/animated!
