You enter our story at a time of change. Once, this world was ruled by Gods: gods who formed factions, and chose which rifters to favor based on their desires, their ambitions, their ideals. Then came The Hanged Man, a world-eating entity responsible for the destruction of countless universes in the multiverse. The people of Denouement managed to destroy him: but not before the damage he'd done was irreversible.

And so, the only course of action was to use the original gods' final sacrifice to create a world anew. This world truly belongs to the rifters who live here, forged by their hopes, their dreams, their subconscious, their fears. Yours, too. Newcomer though you may be, the moment you arrive, your emotions, your drives, your inner demons -- they will begin to forge and shape the world as well. There are some, of course, who will never see it as true freedom. How could they? They've been stolen from their own worlds. Taken away from everything they know. From loved ones, from unfinished business, from their entire lives. From whatever ending was waiting for them.

Hard to say if you'll ever really know if this new chance to write your own ending is a blessing -- or a curse.

Choose a region. Try to live, if not thrive. Find something to care about. Enjoy the peace, while it lasts. Because the old gods are gone. And while at first it might seem like liberation, the truth is that they were not the only cosmic entities out there haunting the multiverse.

And a power vacuum has been created. Some of those entities might be eying it hungrily.
