Digital Monsters is a Digimon roleplay set in an alternate universe focusing on original characters. Taking place in the city of Rivercrest, New York in the year 2030, the human world is experiencing a technological renaissance due to the efforts of Rivercrest’s very own DigiCorp. Holograms, powerful mobile networks, advanced artificial intelligence are all on the rise in the world. But as our own world flourishes, distortion is taking root within the Digital World, home of the eponymous Digital Monsters. Chaos has reached the anomalous dimension, driving some Digimon mad or inspiring some to try and take hold of the world for themselves and rule it with an iron fist . . and this distortion and chaos is manifesting as crises in the human world as Gates between the world allow stray data and sometimes even Digimon themselves to leak through and put people in danger.

However, these worlds are not cosigned to their fates. Some force has reached out to humans within our world and has granted them Digivices and Digimon partners of their own, bestowing upon them the power to fight back. . . whilst also drawing them into the Digital World by force, much to their confusion. Now, these humans are finding themselves lost and confused with no way forward in the Digital World, all whilst being hunted by those who would use the distortion for their own dreadful purposes. But scared and confused as they might be, they are not alone. They have each other and they have their Digimon partners and together, they set off on a new journey of adventure and survival, would-be saviors of two worlds, on a collision course with destiny.

Digital Monsters is hosted on Discord, rather than using a traditional forum host. This allows for a few things: ease of access, ease of information retrieval, and a more complete and centralized community experience. We also utilize new features within Discord to allow for the sort of roleplaying folks are used to: Digital Monsters makes heavy use of forum channels in its roleplay sections, allowing for threads like a traditional forum, all within Discord. Your roleplay will not get lost in a sea of messages and you’ll be able to to tag threads as well, allowing for open or private roleplay scenarios.

Digital Monsters also utilizes a landing site to allow for advertisements, affiliation, and the public posting of plot recaps so newcomers can see what we have been up to at a glance and read up a bit on the roleplay before they join.

Digital Monsters has no stats or dice rolls or math that you have to do to do anything. Instead, all conflicts are resolved via cooperative writing. Yes, Digital Monsters does not think in-terms of “winning” or “losing” on a meta level, but rather we encourage open communication between members to figure out the best course of action for a narrative.

Our progression is equally based in writing. Rather than having a series of requirements or gateways, all progression is done via points you glean from writing. Do you want to evolve your Digimon? Easily done, just purchase it in your tracking thread. The only additional requirements we have beyond that is that some evolutions and upgrades are narratively locked for everyone to allow for a more even handed approach to escalation.

Beyond that, players are encouraged to try and make big moves on their own beyond what happens in the “main” plot. If you want to do something that really shakes things up, you can reach out to staff and we will work things out with you. Staff wants players to help define the narrative of Digital Monsters.

Beyond that, Digital Monsters offers various canon positions players can take, like having their Digimon be a member of the Royal Knights or Demon Lords.
