19. symmetry

It's strange, to see it. Ozias hadn't grown up with a mirror in the house, only reflections in ponds or puddles in city streets. Despite it all, he stands in front of one in the wash room of a man with more money than sense. He had some need for him. A cleric of the Lady of Death, so he had worded it. So few knew of his allegiances, it was almost surprising.

At least it had been, until pieces started to fall into place. An offhanded mention of a captain, of a statue his mother had only spoken about at bedtime. Those stories were far away, even as he looked out into the courtyard where the statue of his other parent stood. The wealthy man that had called upon him knew... something.

That was more terrifying than anything.

Pale eyes drag back to the mirror, to the symmetry of his nose. To just how closely it resembles the statue. The scar on his lips ruins it, so does the quirk of one brow. How they never look quite even. Perhaps he's more of his mother, then. It's not like Ozias had ever truly gotten to know.

His features are sharp, all pointed edges. Not truly symmetrical, nor the perfect vision most see high elves to be. No, he's always carried more of his mother. That's the nature of drow, even if it comes from tainted blood. Another breath, in and out. His chest moves, steady. There's a twig in his hair, a frizz to all of it either way.

Nothing about his appearance is pristine, nor kempt. He is not of symmetry, only that of the dark. Perhaps it will be enough, for today. For whatever will be asked of him. Perhaps this is as 'freshened up' as is possible.

It had been nearly a hundred years since he'd been in the same room as his sister, although there wasn't a thing in the world that could've stopped him from recognizing her in an instant. Even with his vision fairing worse most days, a flood of relief hits in waves. It begins with calling her name, again when she turns to look, and finally with the way she runs in his direction.

Ozias clung to her the moment she was close, barely managing to catch his twin as she barreled into him. She's quick to tears in a way he had never been, simply holding her close. All he felt was intense relief, like he could finally drop the tension in his shoulders. Like he could finally release a breath he'd been holding all this time.

"How have you been?" The question comes through a sniffle, although he imagines it's not entirely just him. They always found each other in places the Raven Queen thrived. He had been drawn to the village to assist with the deaths, while she had been brought to protect the lives of the soldiers who Lady Luck smiled upon.

She breaks away from the hug just enough to look up at him, and he merely offered the same reassuring smile he always had with her. It was specially hand crafted from when they were still children. "I've lived this long, haven't I? What about you?" Death was calm, while life was energetic and passionate. Almost like the sun and the moon, they were twins primarily by looks. In everything else, they were opposites. Compliments to one another, serving both aspects of their Queen.

While he took the silence of a morgue calmly, Ariadne took to the lively and ever flooded medical tent. Temporary, in place for those fighting. A revolution was never quiet, nor without blood or casualties. Her teary-eyed smile is the only answer he needs.

It's much harder on her than him. The dead don't exactly speak to him, nor connect with him in those small moments. One last squeeze is granted before he spun around to give her a noogie in a headlock, a reminder in it's own way that there was still work to be done. "We'll have more time later, go on. No more tears."
