PARADIGM;SHIFT
Literate pokemon RP set in a region inspired by South America.

Art by asteroid_ill on twitter!

I've talked a bit about this in the Quick Interest check thread but my hyperfixation's spiraling on a trajectory wildly out of control. Thus, I posit PARADIGM;SHIFT.

What is PARADIGM;SHIFT?
Paradigm is a literate Pokemon RP set in an original world and region. The region itself is inspired geographically and culturally by South America (specifically Chile & Argentina, though other countries have been peeked at as well), with its political inspiration taken from Soviet satellite states following the collapse of the USSR. I won't deny that Disco Elysium played a huge part in this ^^;

If Gen V's theme was the contrast between ideals and truth and Gen VI's theme was life and death, then PARADIGM;SHIFT's theme is about how different beliefs and worldviews interact. The region has dozens upon dozens of ideologies, subcultures, and other groups who interact and conflict with each other in various ways.

Pokemon battles are the national sport (akin to soccer to a degree), and are both a way to keep the populace happy and a way to stir propaganda. A lot of official Pokemon league stuff goes hand in hand with nationalism, but the newer generation of trainers is breaking away from that mold.

What do I want out of it?
PARADIGM;SHIFT is ideally a writing-focused site, with a more relaxed pace and no activity requirements. The overall goal is to improve as a writer in a community where you feel comfortable to experiment and tell new stories.

Though there are stats/levels, they're almost purely OOC, and exist to track personal progress over time. The site is PVE focused.

I want to cultivate an environment that is both friendly to new members and supportive of old ones. The purpose of writing and roleplaying is to have fun--and that's difficult to do if people are anxious or unsure about interacting. To that end, I want to avoid cliques and the 'you can't sit with us' mentality.

What do you need?
Honestly? At this point, I want people I can bounce ideas off of. Ideally, you'd have participated on other Pokemon sites or other RPG-lite sites in the past, but it's not actually a hard requirement. I'd appreciate assistance in coming up with location lore and encounter tables as well.

What if I'm curious, but don't want to help build the site/become staff?
That's totally chill as well! Since members are the backbone of any site, being able to field questions directly to players as the systems get developed would be very much appreciated. You may occasionally be asked/polled about various site features and mechanics, but you wouldn't need to put any elbow grease into it.

What do you have so far?
So far, PARADIGM;SHIFT has a chunk of its systems 'settled' on, but they need to be written out more concisely. Furthermore, several locations have been written out in full, complete with encounter tables, climate, lore, etc. In general, we're slowly phasing out of the 'brainstorming' phase into the 'let's make this readable and polish it up' phase ^^;

I'm at the point where I'm debating writing up a general information thread and posting an interest check- I've done a vague one in the 'quick interest check' thread but I want an excuse to infodump on my brain creature.

I like it when the vibes feels less like an rp and more like a collaborative short story.

It's hard to hit the flow but when you're with someone you can Click with and the characters just play off each other effortlessly is one of the best feelings.

*crawls out of moss-covered pit*

Something that's really been tatering my tots recently is a relaxed pokemon rp set in an original region inspired by soviet satellite states that takes heavy aesthetic direction from disco elysium & revachol.

I'm thinking it'd definitely have stats and rpg-esque mechanics, but not really in a competitive way?? More of a 'its fun to see numbers go up' and 'this is how you can track ur progression over time'.

Elaborate worldbuilding exercise and an excuse to practice writing fairly regularly.

Yay or nay?

would anyone, hypothetically, be interested in an ultraspace-based pokemon site?

exploring ultraspace, scavenging for Cool Stuff, maybe some base building............

I have a bunch of old lore and systems written up for a site like this that I can scavenge! It was stat based, but only for major forum events- other than that u could freeform as u please
