All birds and men are sure to die but songs may live forever
What's generally considered more mobile friendly/easier to use on mobile? Proboards or Jcink? Asking for a friend who doesn't have a phone that can run the Internet. The friend is me.
They’re both abominations, but here’s the main things I could rant about noticed
Jcink:Templates work because normal css works, but how well they fit may vary. At least if stuff overflows you can still scroll sideways to see it — I’d give Jcink the edge for this alone just because of the ubiquitousness of templates
No board descriptions. Bad if you’re new and don’t know what boards are what. Good if you do know what each board is since it’s a lot less scrolling and you can collapse categories
Not all pages have a mobile version to be converted to. E.g. If you use ‘view active topics’ a lot like I do, that one is desktop view only.
Boards show last active topic/poster, not sure how often people look at that while on home so it may or may not be helpful
Depends on the skin and what changes were made to the mobile formatting, but text can get hard to read with how boards/posts are presented. Basically not as standardized
Proboards:
Other than accent colors and stuff, mobile view is standardized no matter the skin, so it's guaranteed to be pretty legible
Unless templates are styled inline with [ div style=""]s, they won’t work. They’ll just show up inline as plain text so you can imagine how many miles long a really complicated template might become. UNLESS you style it so that all your newclasses are hidden, but most people don't if you did code everything inline but you gave it fixed width exceeding your phone size (which is unfortunately 99% of the time), you can’t scroll sideways to see it.
All pages have a mobile version, so it's more consistent in that regard—including recent threads/posts, which I really appreciate
Board descriptions stay visible, but you can’t see what threads are in it unless you click in—so no last active thread preview. Lotta scrolling on the home page, especially if you've got a lot of boards and long descriptions
