Stages of Writing a Canon Character

I: Oh boy I love this series I can't wait to write my favorite character doing cool stuff like the show/game/movie this is gonna be so much fun!

II: Oh god oh fuck I'm doing this wrong this contradicts a throw-away line they said in a previous episode oh crap this new side novel got released that contradicts stuff I wrote I have no idea what I'm doing I regret this.

III: Wait this is my interpretation of this character I can write them as I want oh boy I can't wait to take this character in a direction they never could've before.
