shrek-inspired RP.

ok think about it: the lives and times of fairy tale creatures. ideally with no required FCs to encourage more creative character designs. maybe with ogres. they're like onions.

I've always thought of trying to make a Shrek AND Ella Enchanted (the movie, but maybe the book is different) roleplay with ALL the creatures and ogres. I like the mix of modern and medieval fantasy in both, especially the mall in Ella Enchanted. I was also inspired by this music video for Nine in the Afternoon, especially with the girls at the beginning wearing medieval costumes! I would love to see a site like this come to fruition.

Legend of Korra. Season three has been great so far! I just have a few qualms with it regarding the kids.
Jinora's arc or lack thereof is frustrating me! I didn't care for the 'spirit fairy princess' plot in Season 2, but I was looking forward to her journey to Master Airbender. But nope! Bryke (Bryan & Mike the creators) didn't really show us a reason as to why she should receive her tattoos. They're giving all of her opportunities for development and exposure to show her strength to Kai! I can care less for the Aladdin arc with him, but why make him a better Airbender than all of the other prisoners? I understand that it was because he trained a bit with Jinora and Tenzin, but couldn't we just have one prisoner with a natural affinity to Air too? And what annoys me the most is in one episode, they're escaping from the Dai Li and apparently she gets caught by one momentarily before being rescued by Kai. Sure she did save Korra from being captured but that was it. And if we had more scenes like the one in the finale instead of giving them to Kai, it would've been great!

Kai. Someone who learned he could airbend not too long ago- saving Jinora who has been airbending since infancy (don't quote me on that). ALSO, why did she have to play the damsel in distress in not one but two episodes? The one I mentioned and the Bison episode? These could've been opportunities to show her strength but Nah, let's focus more on Aladdin. ALSO, why couldn't Ikki search for the baby bison in the finale? It could've been a callback to the episode where she was found playing with them. Why couldn't Kai be the one captured and have Ikki or Jinora help the gang? Why can't the writers give Tenzin's kids something to do besides be comic relief, deus ex machina, or a huge fart joke? I hope it gets better in season four because this is ridiculous.

ETA: Will the hover images be gif or static? Same question applies to the 100x100 icons? :D Also, excellent job on the skins and icon fonts!! <3

I watch a lot of Shoujo/Magical Girl anime, or anime that depicts strong female leads, and I love them. I love that the women are powerful and strong and develop and progress in their own right, and become fundamentally better as the anime/manga progresses.

However, I'm not a big fan of the guys they are usually paired with. Like, I get it. Because of the central focus of feminism and woman power, their canon s/o tend to be more in the background, useless in power, and generally just there for 'back-up' and in support of the main character(s)/strong female lead. But! it's kind of decimating and crippling to the character in question, because not only is her love interest not developing or powering up at all, which undermines him in a fight, but he is not as multi-faceted as the female characters, and often times, is more of a cardboard copy and placed just so the mc can have a love interest, rather than given any type of real back-story or purpose(Sailor Moon, Mermaid Melody, Tokyo Mew Mew). Even anime that nothing to do with magical girls, and are more catered towards slice-of-life, drama, and romance generally share this trope when it comes to having a male lead who falls in love with more than one girl. It constantly annoys me how the women are strong and independent and have depth you can dip down into, but the protagonist who can't choose between them is often idiotic, young, and seldom ever explored or developed very much past the drama in the series(Domestic Girlfriend, Orange Road).

I notice the reverse in a lot of shonen anime as well, with the lead character and his friends powering up, learning more about themselves and their attacks, but the women in the series either develop much later, seem strong and then are somehow equally not as strong as the male character for some reason, or barely get any recognition at all(Bleach, Naruto). Inuyasha is really the only "shounen" series that I've seen that makes learning and strength and development somewhat equal, or at least excusable, and has strong leads all around, with their own developments and accumulating statuses in power.

tltr, Can we just have a strong male lead for our strong independent women, please??

I mean, look at Rin and Hatsuharu, or Tohru and Kyou shot.

THANK YOU. It's a lot like that in modern movies and television series too with strong female protagonists. It gets super annoying and it's not cute. Like writers/animators you're not slick with that mess, make equally powerful couples/foils it's not that hard!

And you're RIGHT about this trope with shonen anime, don't get me started- (rofl) The love interest is either shouting the protagonist's name, crying, or giving idealistic speeches about hope and friendship. And oh my gosh, the women who are stronger/or equal to in strength to the protagonists are chasing after him or another male character, but their strength is never addressed and takes a back seat to how 'crazy' or 'psychotic' or 'lovestruck' she is. There is this disgusting parallel between the love interest and the 'crazy' female side character based on their personalities and strengths and it's incredibly problematic. I don't see many anime doing this anymore, but there used to be a "meek= good" and "assertive=bad" trope back then with the love interest being the former and the side female being the latter and it was plain messy. *eye roll*

An animanga celeb roleplay with idol groups, actors, musicians, shady corporations, a star/reputation system, the whole nine yards. There was one that I joined two years ago, but it felt a bit clique-ish tbr. Hopefully one will come about soon!

A boarding school rp, a panfandom Harry-Potter site, A Game of Thrones roleplay set before the Doom of Valyria IN Valyria, A court-intrigue/rumors site. A site where I can earn cute badges based on my character's zodiac sign, sexuality, personality trait, etc, A site with cute badges and awards in general! Bring me medieval! Bring me intrigue! Bring me death!
