She had become good at noticing wounds, both fresh and old; Hotaru could see well the scars of Towaguchi Tsumugi, and her struggles beneath them.

Standing beside son, that was all she could glean: a bitter girl with bitter prospects.


Fingers raised, they snatch Towaguchi’s chin, the pressure of which squandering the false wealth of a girl's false simper. An unforgiving touch akin to the cold steel of a samurai's blade laid flat and resting with Tsumugi held under it's knife point, just barely scraping skin.

"It'll do your teeth more harm than good, biting down like that."


There came the following sound of forefinger striking thumb; the forward motion signal for a servant and their handkerchief.

“Smile like you did when you were a girl,” she continued leisurely, taking care to wipe the stain of Clan Towaguchi’s shame from her fingers. “I’m sure you remember how, Towaguchi-san.”

there are so many layers behind this that never get addressed.

idr when exactly but i DEAD ASS remember like a year or two ago someone posted an interest check for something niche. there was a good amount of turnout at first but when the site went up it was dead on arrival. the person posted on PP like ‘i put in all this work and no one showed up. where is everyone that said they wanted to join?’ and it broke my goddamn fucking heart. honestly, most shit i ever saw.

GOOOOOOOOOOOODAMn.




that being said, i think rp needs to evolve but either people are unaware or don't’ want to take on that change.

when u want to rp something niche u need to be realistic and look at the longevity of it. are u planning on it lasting for a while? then lay out the groundwork and shoot out a site.

are u just itching w/ muse and want to do it until ur interest wanes or u pick up something new? then u need to make something scalable and quick. discord? barebone site? w/e. make it and scratch that itch w/o making a time sink.

there’s a lot more that goes into this but it’s highly personal, nuanced, and subjective.
i rmbr back in the day i wanted to rp pirates but no1 was making WUN PEACE (one piece) sites so i joined a medieval site instead and made me a pirate crew

not the same thing as joining a fandom site tho. that being said, not everyone who posts in that thread have the capacity to make sites themselves and even if discord rp is an option, some of them probably identify as forum rp purists   honkhonk

if ur creating a site then 100% stick to ur guns, who cares what the masses say. if the lore is A1 and ur rep is A1 chances are the ppl will come

that being said, might be worth discussing accessibility needs with your members. some serif fonts are actually better for dyslexic players, and it could be worth it to have an alternate skin that changes the font for readability. even if it doesn't look pretty, letting your members actually be able to read your site content seems like a strong decision.

i am not saying serif should be a default, though, because everyone's accessibility needs are different. however, when we are running sites with multiple skin options, it feels pretty easy to make sure everyone's reading needs are met. someone who reads serif better can use the serif skin that uses a dyslexia-friendly font and larger font and better letter spacing, and someone who reads sans serif better can use the default skin.
you bring up an interesting point (re: readability) which got me researching a bit, and, well —

i discovered that serif fonts are actually more readable while sans serif are more legible.

there's an entire print history that is tl;dr to explain, but essentially serif fonts are the typewriter's old style (new york times still uses serif fonts for their body content) while sans serif is a departure of the past, which was pioneered by the bauhaus movement (1920s).

when it comes to computer screens there is little to no evidence which is better / easier to read.  it's actually more about how the body text is coded. e.g. real life rp sites are known for their serif fonts but they're also notorious for their small print (fun fact: serif fonts are easier to read on a smaller scale). sans serif, on the other hand, is associated to cutting-edge design and commerce—its also used for highway signs bc its legibility is easier to discern from a distance.


ultimately finding the right body text is a balancing act between user experience and the "aesthetic" you're trying to achieve. i personally like to mix and match different fonts and font families (though i have a preference for readable fonts over those that are simply too script-y/unreadable).

serif fonts r criminally underrated / underappreciated when it comes to rp design and i will continue to stand on that hill

when ppl try to rationalize their bad behavior i personally want to b*tch slap ‘em.

its 2022 — if someone tells u that ur actions makes them “uncomfortable” regardless of the reason u ought to just… acknowledge that and actually stop lol
