Not to double-post on purpose but: it’s not like my taste in characters is outwardly fantastic since aside from Venti I tend to like some very polarizing characters. Scara and Furina for one which, both have very vehement haters. I’d mention Xiao is my main but I’m honestly getting tired of his characterization by a lot of people just being edgy lmao
I actually came into Genshin thinking of Venti as an annoying little twerp, but he grew on me. I'd pull for him if I could, but I have 20k primos and nothing to pull on; I don't really dig Xilonen or Chiori, though I might throw a few at Nahida (having just finished the Sumeru quest line).

I feel like Genshin characterisation would benefit from using fewer characters but giving them more screentime. Natlan, for example, all the characters get a lot of screentime and personality. Mondstadt, Jean has very little screentime and what we get from her is incredibly meagre. You can tell the MiHoYo team has grown; speaking as a newbie who has only just gotten ready to embark to Fontaine, the writing quality in Sumeru was much stronger than Inazuma/Liyue.

Mondstadt's basic quest line was actually pretty good, in my humble opinion, and if there's any qualm I have with Sumeru, it's that a large part of the story is confined to Sumeru City, leaving a large part of the map just entirely optional to explore. It does make the world feel larger, but at the same time, my time in Sumeru felt incredibly short compared to all the running around I did in the previous nations and in Natlan.

I agree on that point. They put in too many, and way too fast.

I just wish that some characters also didn't have their lore/Big Moments locked behind events that go away. (As a suffering Albedo fan.) It makes me annoyed as hell.

As a new player, I feel that. I've taken to just looking up the flagship events I've missed on YouTube, but it kinda sucks really hard they haven't just put them into the game permanently like they did for HSR. Knowing there's a Lantern Rite where Venti visits Liyue, as well as knowing I'll never get to experience it by playing myself is really a big bummer.

I think at least with Natlan, they held back on the "too many, too fast", considering Kachina and Ororon both play big roles in the story despite being 4-stars.

Your guess is as good as mine when they've been asking for replays for the longest time so they can replay them in different languages. I think because the comic covered a lot of characters (Amber's family, Diluc's father, even mentions about Jean and her sister, even Kaeya being a jerk to Collei which is forever one of my top ten Kaeya moments) they expected people to actually read everything for Mond. They realized afterwards that people didn't. Or if they did they pointed out issues. (Kaeya having a vision before he had a vision) - but since then they've been trying to do better after Inazuma specifically.

I actually feel you on the Kazu-mary sue, because even if he's not, he's got the vibes focus on him that he is and it was one of the most annoying things about Inazuma for me besides just the terribad writing which they acknowledged in later livestreams. God somehow Kazu was my most hated when I was expecting Ayaka. No one was happy with it. Legend has it that they pissed off so many people about it they actually tried for Sumeru. I know my personal feelings on the game are very different on Fontaine as most - but like I *like* Venti. Heck, I even thought Ganyu was tolerable, but characters like Dori and Kazu drove me up the wall. At least Kazu was useful for abyss.

Though, if history repeats itself, HSR is their testing grounds for most of their upcoming features - so if HSR has it, it's got a maybe 60 percent chance you'll be able to replay somethings. I don't know how much tbh. From what they addressed the reason they don't have it cause they didn't have focused view which they do now so hoyo. Tbh, I just want an Albedo rerun. Where is my tiny man. You come back for cats but you don't come back for your bloody birthday.

I hate to be the bearer or terrible news but I am like..mostly certain Albedo will never see a rerun unless it's on that Mond combined banner from now on. I'm pretty sure that was the intention of it, to just get rid of some solo running banners and combine them, so there were less banners altogether.

Maybe he'll make an appearance alongside Shenhe.

healer players in mmos are so annoying, like i've never seen a group of people so offended they have to do a job they chose to do.

"waaaah i don't wanna dps when i have nothing to heal" "waaaah i have to do a bit of extra healing to save this dps" "waaaah i have to interrupt a mob because the dps won't" "waaah i have to use party cc" "waaaaah i don't like when the tank pulls big and i have to actually try"

like as a healer, i enjoy doing all of these things? do you just want to get carried and do nothing?

Incidentally, while I have mild dislike for or just generally don't care about a good chunk of the genshin cast, the list of who I hate / Can't stand / whatever is actually pretty small. I think it's like...four people.

Dori, Diona, Faruzan, and Mona.

I hate...everything about Dori tbh. Diona's voice and attitude annoy me. Faruzan's character also annoys me and tbh she just reminds me of a Discount Miku when...I never really got into the Miku craze. Mona I just kinda disliked for mixed reasons. I lost too many times to her, and I hated her story quest. So it's less her fault and more personal reasons. Kujou Sara almost makes it on this list because I can't take her seriously.

Everyone else is pretty much I don't care about them enough to be bothered by their presence or it's more feeling bored than hate. Or they are the characters I like.

Tbf the only mmo I play is ff, and whenever my main healer friend "acts up" it's justified. They aren't the type to whine but you can bet your ass if you're being stupid and standing  in aoes you could have avoided they'll make you suffer and wait a bit to be rezz'd. Yes they're a healer but at that point you kinda deserve a bit of a salt Mage as we like to call it. They're our healer not a "get out of being stupid free" card. And I'm sating this as someone who has been the stupid dps and gotten murked on mechanics.

On the other hand there are some pretty bad healers. Like Genuine Bad. I've gotten healers who run ahead impatiently trying to be tank or some garbage and then die because...they aren't. Or healers being overconfident and demanding bigger pulls, being unable to keep up, and the party wiping. I also knew someone who always wanted to be party support but then kept chickening out or whining about mechs or difficulty unless the dungeon was under their level. As a dps, I sit in a pretty responsibility free zone and I'm content with it. My job is to do damage which is literally the easiest job.

I actually find healing, ESPECIALLY in FFXIV, to be easier than DPS. Something about healing just clicks in my brain, and it just makes sense. someone dies to avoidable damage? i can safely ignore their complaints, not my fault or responsibility. If someone's being a pain in the ass and not clicking their defensives, at a certain point, it's not my job to save them. I'm a 2k healer in WoW and I've healed mythic raids, and I don't worry about the floor eaters. It's not my fault if the DPS die to their own stupidity, and if I can't save them, I don't bother. I also don't have a res that works in battle, that's a mostly DPS and tank feature in WoW these days (unless I'm a resto druid, which I never am. Sorry!). So if you die to smth stupid, I get to leave you there and focus on the other people.

The thing is, in WoW Rn, a bunch of healers are complaining about a mechanic that is super easy to deal with. You can dispel it with a mass dispel, which only 2 healing classes have, or you can just burst-heal through it (and it doesn't stack with incoming damage, so if it happens during an AOE where you have to heal anyway, the affix removes itself). They're talking about how impossible the affix is to deal with, but you look at their keys done and the most they've cleared is a +5. And like, I handle that in 2 GCDs....

That's fair and tbh I respect you for it. Something about healing kicks up my anxiety and I don't want to be responsible for other people. I think mainly my perspective on trying to be a healer has been colored by the expectation that I'll be immediately pounced on for being bad at it. Like...I've seen people dogpile on healers that were trying their best but still new to it and I don't wanna deal with that crap.

anyone who cries about big pulls past lvl 60 in ffxiv will not survive the winter... i've had tanks turn off their tank stance and pout bc i tapped an extra mob pack over with my dot while playing sage. nobody died. i healed you. you're okay. why are you sulking in the corner with grit off, this is a level 92 dungeon, this is not cutter's cry, c'mon dude

this is coming from a tank (gunbreaker) main though, if my dps aren't using their dash skills to pull ahead for me (dps health bars are extra mit) what kinda dungeon am i running...

I've had someone get mad at me for not knowing the mechs of a dungeon I never ran before lol.

I also witnessed a fellow dps (they were playing Viper) consistently run past the tank and die. Funny shit.

yeah i'm at a point in my healer journey where DPS fuckups can't be fixed by me. At a certain point, you can't save a DPS that fails a mechanic. The mechanic just 100-0s them. You can't heal that. It's like. Mid-level healing is actually harder and more anxiety-inducing than high-level healing, because at that point DPS can blame you for their mistakes because you CAN cover their ass.

I've actually been flamed more for bad DPS performance than heal performance, which is part of why I'm more anxious bringing DPS into raids. This is also just a WoW thing, I guess, because everyone has DPS meters. But because of that, everyone can also see who takes the most damage thru a fight and who eats an unavoidable swirly, so I get flamed less as a healer b/c I can back up "you fucked this up and I can't save you." Double-edged sword thing, I guess.

I can understand in high level M+ that extra pulls often wipe the party, or if my CDs aren't up, but XIV is a lot more predictable in terms of damage than WoW is. That's part of why i mentioned it's a little easier; it's less "oh this is baby content" and more that XIV tends to design around very clear windows. XIV's design in general is made around the fact that it doesn't allow addons, so the game has to be very clear about mechanics. WoW meanwhile balances everything around the idea that you're modding your game to shit. Neither is inherently Bad or Good, it's just different design principles.

I have been told there is a WoW refugee issue in XIV where healers refuse to DPS. This made me laugh a bit because occasionally you will get WoW healers going "I didn't sign up to DPS!!!" and you look at their content and they only do like, heroics, where you have to cast maybe 2 heals in the entire dungeon. DPS is also a critical part of my healing rotation on a few different healers. Like, this is also why I say healer players are annoying-- I've been dealing with a lot of them complaining over having to do basic shit like maybe cast one DPS spell for a GCD they don't have any healing or setup to do.
