My confidence has taken a bit of a blow…one person told me I am too descriptive. O__o

i find it hard to be the first person to initiate in a dm. once it’s started i’ll sometimes be okay — but I can never tell if people even want a dm because some people I know said it makes them anxious. and if i’m anxious from making the first move, and you’re anxious at an unexpected dm, then we’re both panicking for no reason and it isn’t a great time.

There’s no hard feelings at all. I’m very terrible at not wording things very strongly and text tone is hard to read so nbd. I merely wanted to say more or less that “x char treatment doesn’t equate no communication.” If people do commit to things I respect it but I do mention that I dislike hard commitment to a plotline in advance if people are in dms plotting with me, leaving out the obvious want ad. I never take up space someone else could have if I am unsure I can work it.

I probably worded that wrong. I’m not great with words.

But to me it’s not the seriousness that makes it feel like a job. It’s being treated like I made a promise, when most of us know what the word “try” is. Unless I am told otherwise that they want it for certain or no dice, then that fault lies in their course, since they didn’t communicate the need for something concrete.

And while it was hand-waves as a friend and honestly dismissive, it was an easy example of the fact I say the much dreaded “my character feels x way” and still communicate. I’m not shirking anything, I am taking the initiative to inform the person and offer new plots or ways to work around it. That was what is being insinuated and here I am using that phrasing and still communicating.

As for want ads, I simply don’t take them unless I am certain I can fulfil it.

People’s time and feelings is and has always been important. But, hear me out here, I hardly ever full commit. But that might also just be me, I’m not gonna assume how yall talk in dms or sites I am not on. I say “we can see if these two like each other” or “we can see about x enemies to friends plot” but the difference is, I’m not stating it WILL happen. I am giving a possibility of where it could go. I don’t treat it as a contractual obligation, and honestly at that point it sounds more like we’re turning rp into a job or something. Isn’t rp about improvising? It’s not a script you can just lie down and follow.

For an example, Chibi Magician and I have had ships fall through as well as some super specific plotlines verge into a completely unexpected direction because of various reasons that a character’s personality made it hard to expect. Things from other threads impacting the character’s mood, affected their responses. We adjusted those plotlines accordingly and fixed it without having problems in phrasing like “well the character can’t really have agency tho cuz she’s not real”.

I know some people have a general “writing muse” thing and can sit down and write posts in order and cycle between written characters at will but that has never been a thing for me.

I have individual muse for each character (usually it rotates based on my mood or stress levels = ie if I am in a calm mood i can write fluffy happy peoples, but if I am uber stressed I can’t and can only do depressed or villainous or -insert descriptor here- type characters.)

So a specific character’s muse just not being high enough for me to write them at random points is totally a thing that can happen with me. My activity levels with any character in particular rises and falls based on these outside factors independently of each other. It’s not a general shared pool I can just pull some sorta author’s magic from.

idk how people who force their characters to follow the plot do it. mine throw a fit and do what they want.

it is cathartic to live through our characters.

but but but! if character bleed starts happening and you make ic drama ooc because you’re starting to insert yourself too much in order to live vicariously — maybe take a step back.

Just because my character is a raging b does not mean i hold her same opinion.
