hmm so tbh i hope rules that ban under 18 fcs don't catch on.....i got told twice last year that i couldn't use a vocaloid character (possibly because vocaloids are forever 14-16) and it grinded my gears.

i also dislike rules that are all "well this character has to LOOK like an adult for you to use them >:(!" because that is a.) vague as hell (i've seen people say something like this it's just rin kagamine resembles a child while using artwork that was basically that but with like, defined shading around the nose bridge or w/e -- and to me it's just an anime character) b.) a bit annoying as someone regularly id'd still despite being 24. young-looking adults are still adults....!

why not say 'no loli fcs' or something idk

thisโ€ฆ..is a thing? Man am I glad itโ€™s not a super common one. People do realize likeโ€ฆa lot / most anime fcs are like. Highschool ageโ€ฆright? Thatโ€™s the stereotypical anime setting and age demographic anyways.

I think my main FC related (ish) gripe is when there are rules to have aesthetically pleasing graphics. My definition of aesthetically pleasing maybe different from another personโ€™s definition of it. Overall, it just makes me vacate the idea of joining immediately since while yes, I can photo edit, I prefer just cropping. Furthermore, I would just keep questioning the overall definition in the personโ€™s opinion is โ€œaesthetically pleasingโ€. I know there are people I can ask to do my graphics also, but I enjoy doing them myself. So I just generally avoid the rule cause it makes me antsy and ticks that little thought in my head of never being good enough. It is just, so interpretive it messes with my head.
Rules on it shouldnโ€™t be a thing tbh, because โ€œpleasing aestheticsโ€ are individual taste. I like brighter colors unless the characterโ€™s supposed to be darker or more dreary and the opinions I get on my edits are a mixed bag. Some like them, some think theyโ€™re too bright or too saturated.

I will admit for reds and pinks specifically - I do prefer mine very bright. Blues also at least 60% of the time.

While I do think itโ€™s silly to judge a person because of their graphics, Iโ€™m sorry but it is a common flaw in the rp community. Aesthetics appear to be a major point of make or break for a lot of people and is one of the reasons Iโ€™ve started using filters and such to make my own graphics. Things need to be pretty - or else.

Not in my current community - mind, but I had gotten so used to it by the point I got to where I am now.

Face claim sharing is something that has resolved 90% of fc issues in the communities Iโ€™m in. People can opt to share or not, but Iโ€™ve never said no to it when someone asked. As a matter of fact - Iโ€™m actively sharing a fc with someone on the same site rn and we stuck them in a thread - and it is a hilarious doppelganger effect like the spiderman pointing meme.

In a different rp circle - a person I frequently post with shares at least 6 fcs with me between sites and yet another also shared a handful. We hardly ever get annoyed or confused or possessive about it. Ironically some of those characters are polar opposites despite sharing the fc (an example is one of mine is a devoted bodyguard with a nasty vengeful streak and hers is a shy little timid anxiety bean).

But this also brings up another point - if the fc is popular enough to have a lot of fanart - you could get away with just using different images with polar opposite vibes.

Another example thatโ€™s easy for this is Keqing. Some artists prefer to draw her as a cute fashionista while others lean more into her canon-y stern and serious vibe. Bam! Two different characters.

i do agree with a lot of points and tbh I think we should just go to a place where people suck it up and get over it.

there isnโ€™t a real way to win.

either you use common fcs and get fights over them or side-eyed, or you use too niche of a fc, and then nobody wants to rp with the character because โ€œthe art is too oldโ€ or any other number of complaints.

Iโ€™ve done all of the above. I used common fcs. Iโ€™ve used niche fcs. Iโ€™ve used fcs from old anime and games. Iโ€™ve even cropped manga panels and went through painstaking effort to get them colored or color them myself.

While the issues were different, it tends to be either ignored because it isnโ€™t shiny new art, or judged because everyone and their aunt sally has used a picture of raiden shogun genshin impact.

i get it. I used to frequently actually use fcs with limited art. Thereโ€™s a struggle to get satisfying graphics sometimes. I used world ends with you, servamp, wolfโ€™s rain, bleach fcs before.

Thankfully, Iโ€™m in a community that cares 0% about what fcs you use or donโ€™t use. Thatโ€™s rare but also pretty much the only way to win.

I do agree that people can complain, however it should also be taken into consideration that if the complaints are always about a certain series or art style and only that one - it runs the risk of people who use them to feel targeted and singled out and then it could lead to people being hurtful or judgemental when in reality someone just wanted to use a fc that has a gajillion pieces of art to use. Or just because they find the style pretty or whatever.

Not at all saying people here have done this, but once it gets out of complaining and strays into harassment or the examples i just gave, then it becomes a major problem. I just find that sometimes complaining gets out of hand and people donโ€™t know where to draw the line between โ€œthis annoys meโ€ and bringing people down whether they intend to or not.
I think it's silly to say, "oh, I can't say my preference because some random person online may feel bad about themselves even I'm not talking to them." How people react to something is their responsibility. I don't think anyone in this thread have stepped out of the line. In the first place, it got brought up by disco because people were apparently fighting over genshin fc's. Afterwards, some folks are just saying they don't like the aesthetics, which is as valid if the topic were about Dragonball fc's or YGO fc's instead. We all have different opinions. And while yes, feeling judged can be hurtful depending on what it is... but if you're going to be so affected by it over the jpegs you like, I think you should have a thicker skin.
Nobody in this thread has stepped out of line, no.

And yes, you can say what you want but at the end of the day - saying what you want also has the chance of you having to deal with whatever happens because of it, just like anything else in life. And while normally that wouldnโ€™t matter as much on the internet - rp is a social thing you canโ€™t really do without partners and iโ€™ve seen bad blood brew over something even dumber than this tbh. People can get real nasty once they start to feel resentful. Or could just quit interacting entirely.

Idk about anyone else but if I constantly saw complaining about vtuber fcs or whatever saturated everywhere, Iโ€™d get tired of it too. This may also come from the angle that 85% of the people I know in the community are anxious. From various posts Iโ€™ve seen on Pixel - this is pretty common in the community. So while people could have โ€œthicker skinโ€; they probably wonโ€™t. Theyโ€™ll avoid you like the plague and Iโ€™ve seen this happen in real time.

Not liking the aesthetic is fine since thatโ€™s literally a personal preference and isnโ€™t what I really have an issue with. And if you got dragged into a fight over them then I understand. But also you shouldnโ€™t tell people to stop using a series fc just because itโ€™s popular and used everywhere, or judge them if they do.

I said all this back when people got judged for overusing Vocaloids. Which is literally a copy paste issue. The amount of people Iโ€™ve seen argue over Kaito and Stardustโ€ฆ

I donโ€™t see it as anything to complain about. Let people like what they like, it doesnโ€™t really matter in the end.

Nobodyโ€™s saying you have to use any of these fcs after all.

While ia that people can like whatever they want as long as they aint hurtng anyone, i think people should also be allowed to complain and gripe if they want to as long as itโ€™s not in an explosive manner, or attacking someone.

hot take: people will complain about overused fcs always. Right now itโ€™s genshin. A bit before that it was vtubers being a hot take. Before that it was touken ranbu. Before THAT it was certain ff fcs. Before even that it was vocaloid and similar. It will always be the next thing.

Mainly I'm just messing around with psds and graphics and seeing if I like the crops and icons I can create as I slowly get used to making my own.

If anything catches your eye, feel free to shoot me a message and i can drop you the album link to whichever character, as I don't mind people using my graphics.

edit: i decided i am rearranging them based off color themes, so excuse me as my brain forces me to change things.
