Ethereal Shrines

Set in a fantasy realm, Arceus blessed the land with shrines. Should you present an offering and pray, Arceus will bless you with a gift, depending on the shrine you visit.

I really love gacha phone games. And I wanted a Pokemon version that's also a fantasy RP. Instead of you choosing what Pokemon you encounter/catch/obtain, it will be decided at random. In order to "summon" more Pokemon, you must collect more thread points. The more points you spend, the higher chance of getting a better Pokemon. The shrines aren't just for Pokemon summons, but also item summons, wonder trading, evolutions, and even abilities for the player!

Trainers do not exist in this land. In a slice-of-life style like Harvest Moon and Rune Factory, your character can be whatever you want, from a farmer to a merchant, to a knight. The fantasy world will be similar to JRPGs like the Tales series and Octopath Traveler in terms of design and appearance.

This concept is still very much in the early stages with room for change, growth, and assistance. Let me know if this seems like a fun RP for you and if you want to help establish the site.

EDIT //

1.26.19 - I will be making a GoogleDoc containing all the info collected as well as a discord for people who are interested!

Since you mentioned it being fantasy, would you be allowing playable races other than humans or magic? That could be another cool draw since you could play around with how different races handle Pokemon and the shrines as well as the cultural influences. One race might be inclined to use them for war, another might want to preserve and create a strong bond with them.

You mentioned "thread points" -- would this just be the monetary system? Per post you get x amount of points. Or, would it be a matter of mods reviewing a completed thread and awarding points as they see fit? Usually a mix is good, with the base post points and the bonus points for whatever criteria you have (amount of pages, average word count, character development, etc.).

How would you handle capture and the amount of Pokemon a person can have overall? If it's just a summon and capture, it can be very easy for one character to end up with more Pokemon than they can actually handle, and settings like these often call for them having the space to keep all of them. You could limit them by the land they own specifically for Pokemon (ie. an acre of farmland for every 10-15 Pokemon outside of their party), or you could limit it by making the price of the capture devices higher in addition to the shrine fee. I know some fantasy Pokemon RPs use magic crystals instead of Pokeballs since Pokeballs are too modern for most fantasy settings (unless it's modern fantasy).

All just ideas and questions. I definitely want to see where you go with this!

Thank you for the suggestions!

CHARACTER
I haven't decided whether to allow multiple characters per user or not yet. I think it will depend on the activity of the player. NPCs will be played by Mods. Children (under the age of 18) can be played, but cannot be an official player (ie. cannot have pokemon, make summons, etc.)

Player characters must choose their initial nation and race. Each race will have a specific perk. There will be history and lore for each race and nation. You cannot change your race, but you can switch allegiances (or not have one at all). There are benefits to being a part of a specific nation.

RACES
All races have a human form. I have no idea which races to add.

THREADS
You instantly get points per post, but completed threads will be checked by mods and given rewards based on the content. Pokemon who participate in the thread will gain EXP. Sometimes you will receive items as well. At the end of a thread, a mod will post all the rewards that will be given to the participating players. You can only take up to 4 Pokemon with you per thread.

THREAD POINTS/CURRENCY
I don't know what the currency is going to be called yet, but it will be a mixture of both Points-Per-Post and Mod Checks. You will instantly get x amount of points per post and a finished thread will earn each person a certain amount of points based on certain criteria (such as total word count, amount of people, etc.).

SHRINES
This has the most development in the works. There are going to be various shrines and essentially they will all have a cost and limit to how much you can use them. There will be a weekly limit of summons and using summons will exponentially increase in cost. At a certain time every week it will reset.

SHRINE OF SUMMONS
The Pokemon Shrine. This is where you can get a Pokemon. All new characters will get a random basic Pokemon for free (once their application is finished and approved). Following that, there is a weekly limit of X (probably around 3) amount of Pokemon. The first summon will cost X. The second summon will cost X*3 and the third summon will cost X*5 (or something along those lines). In addition to that, you can choose to spend an extra X amount of points to choose what type the Pokemon will be (Bug, Fairy, Fire, etc.).

SHRINE OF WONDER
The wonder trading shrine. You can sacrifice one of your Pokemon with a fee to get a different Pokemon instead. This will also have a weekly limit and will increase in price each time you do it.

SHRINE OF POWER
There are two ways to increase your Pokemon's levels: training or the shrine of power. The shrine of power will instantly level your Pokemon reliant upon how much you spend. The more you spend, the more EXP you will receive. The max level is 100. There is no weekly limit but the higher the level, the more it will cost.

SHRINE OF ABILITY
This is for the character. For a hefty sum, you can pay to receive a gift from Arceus. This includes being able to understand Pokemon, controlling an element, etc. You will only be able to have one ability at a time, but you can always pay the sum again to change the ability.

SHRINE OF OBJECT
Once per week, you can pay a small sum and you will get some useful items. This can be stones, healing items, equipment, etc. Other ways to obtain these items is from completed threads.

LAND
Each player starts with a small plot of land with a simple house attached. The amount of land determines how many Pokemon you can have at any time. You can purchase more land, but it becomes more and more expensive each time you do it. For decoration and flaunting wealth, you can also choose to upgrade your home.

So I guess the Shrine of Ability is the only way for a character to have magic or something?

Been toying around with the idea of a Pokemon world where humans had the ability to mimic Pokemon moves, either through studying like kung fu masters or establishing a pact with certain legendary Pokemon. Although that might not exactly mesh well with the system you seem to be developing.

Either way, this looks interesting. Although I'm not all too sure about the Gacha part, I usually just want to have the Pokemon I prefer and then have fun with them XD

Well...Another suggestion is for subraces or something. Think of a special case. In this Psychics, Aura Wielders, and Mediums. Basically humans with special abilities. These are featured in the series loosely (as trainer classes and such). Or is that too extreme? o-O; Nothing too complicated or powerful...

To keep the forum clean and so people know that all threads in certain areas are current and that the OP is likely to still have interest, we archive threads that haven't gotten posts for 2 weeks.
