Yeah the Ichigo/Orihime and Renji/Rukia ending bugged the hell out of me because at the very surface, Orihime's crush on Ichigo was highlighted the most and it's never really shown him reciprocating her feelings.

I just read all 686 chapters of bleach and what bugged me about the last chapter was not the ichihime vs renruki debate, but the shipping itself. instead of pandering to fandom/time-skipping to family times, kubo should've focused his last few chapters on the immediate aftermath of the war and some follow ups on fan favorite characters (i.e. what happened to urahara and yoruichi? the arrancar? etc).

Which leads me to say... I'm not sure if this is a trope, but what bothers me the most is creators neglecting an ideal ending of the overall story itself by bending / pandering to the whims of their fandom and the so-called "ship wars". Bleach is one of these things, and so was Legend of Korra (idc what anyone says but that 'korrasami' ending was dumb af).

tl;dr vers. Nothing gets me TIGHT faster than a rly good series being reduced into a ship war

yuhhh get into it
prevalent in shoujo manga for some reason but for character dramas in general: can we please stop using traffic accidents to raise the stakes/shock the audience etc. if you require somebodys life hanging in the balance for your character to have an epiphany thats lazy storytelling and im tried of reading it

Getting tired of tropes is something tricky for me; I don't think I consume enough media to get 'tired' of something. I will say that I'm not a big fan of this tendency that some media has to appeal — or pander — to the audience with their protagonist. I see this with a lot of male-oriented anime, shōnen. I think it's called. Isekai anime recently picked this one up a lot. It feels like it's trying to create a self-insert for the viewer. Kind of... I don't know — not my thing. It's a popular genre, so this is evidently not something that the viewers find annoying, or else it’d be phased out, but it made me just not watch Isekai anymore.

I don't know if this is a trope, but one thing really pisses me off: editor-level meddling for the sake of pandering to focus groups. I recently learned that both JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Dragon Ball were meant to have a significant female role in their storyline, but editor meddling kept it from happening. More specifically, Part II, JoJo's mother, was meant to take a much more active and badass lead in the story. In DB to DBZ, IIRC it was something about Launch and a few others taking more center stage.

As for my favorite trope, I'd say that would fall down to powerful female characters. I'm not going to get into the 'I want more representation' in media thing — it's not even about that, really. I just have a really strong draw to seeing really well-made female characters who kick ass. I feel a little annoyed when people bring up that 'it's not realistic' for a female to be beating up beefy men, but... Ugh, I don't even want to go down that argument line.

Yay for necroposting! Sorry!

There's a whole bunch of tropes I hate in a variety of things, but 3 things make me so peeved.

1. When people make a video game anime, but it so unrealistic. Like I get you want to make you MC op, but jesus, some of these games have RNG that literally make 0 sense. I want to see my MC fight and struggle, and get realistic rewards. So I hate it when a MC finds a "secret class" or somehow finds out his class is "super op", like dude, this is a video game, if a cheat class existed, hella people would already be using it and it would get patched.

2. What I see so often, is a totally badass female character appears  who seems stronger than the MC, but 10 chapters/episodes later, she's apart of the harem and is constantly needing protection by the alpha chad MC. Like is it so much to ask for a female side character who retains her badass stature is an isekai anime/manga? I think a perfect example of this would be Asuna from Sword Art Online. She was such a strong character at the start, and seemed to be on par with Kirito, but nope. About 1 season later she's getting kidnapped and is completely powerless. There are many reasons why Sword Art is a bad anime, but that's def in my top 10 reasons.

3. Random new Villains. There's nothing worse you can do to your world-building than have a super detailed ark with a super strong villain, then next ark, have a villain who's even stronger come out of nowhere. This is one of the reasons I'm not the biggest fan of dragon ball. If your anime resolves around the main character getting stronger, and fighting even stronger villains, than you world building's gonna eventually go to hell. I hate it when a super powerful villain just appears out of no where, like, where were you all this time?
This guy is awesome.

queerbaiting, token gays, bury ur gays, etc.... i don’t think i have to explain how frustrating this is to a queer audience u.u

also lead boy n lead girl getting together by the middlish end of a first movie? i’m not interested tbh. tbf i have like a huge hit to investment in a straight relationship but that’s because my brain exists on a single train named gay and anything else does not compute

oh also when characters are written to have these incredibly bland crushes that aren’t even developed. especially if they have a pretty queer coded repertoire w another character looking at you sherlock and millionaire detective. like, yeah, i know let two men or two girls have a good close friendship w/o making it romantic, but when the alternative is this forced, kinda quota checking, we’re definitely not covering up the fact that one of the most interesting parts of our stories kinda lend themselves to maybe gay interpretation... then yeah i’m going w the gay subtext

o also additionally this is totally not definitely 100% fueled by dabihawks but my love of charming thief characters knows no ends and i need more of them pls and thank u

I swear. If I see another god dang main character who's being bullied, I'm gonna blow a gasket. Like jesus, do people not know how to write any other character? I mean that's cool and all as a origin, but it's literally ALL THE TIME. Why are all these people being bullied? Can I watch one movie/show or read one magna/webtoon where the main character is a regular guy? Do writers do this so that the MC is relatable? I didn't get bullied, I don't relate. And it's not even the fact that they're beign bullied, it's how bland it is half the time, or how unrealistic some of these happenings are. Are they doing this so the MC has a struggle? Is bullying the only struggle people know?

as someone who was bullied... yeah, the way bullying is depicted is really uncommon nowadays? idk, maybe some other people can relate to the sort of thing that goes on, but i don't see bullying as ever being so blatant as it is depicted anymore? tho, i can't speak for physical bullying that happens.
w/ other kind of bullying, tho, it's rarely so obvious. maybe once did someone actually say in my face something that woulda set off the bullying alarms. didn't change the fact that i came home crying every day?
alskdjf..... kids were cruel to me, but at the time i didn't even realize i was getting bullied? literally no one did. and that's because the way i was bullied isn't the way media depicts bullying—even psychological bullying.
so like, yeah. alksdfjds there's a reason kids don't take it seriously—it's portrayed so blatantly that you honestly cannot miss it if it happens to you—but you & everyone else around you do because bullying is a hell of a lot more subtle than media depicts.
tho again that's my experience. maybe its a generational thing, maybe it's just a me thing. might be like... where i grew up in? idk

I had this long typed out rant about all the things I've been through when it comes to bullying. But I all that info isn't needed.

I'll just say that bullying is more obvious than you might think it is. People don't really like to see it when it's presented. Likely out of worry of becoming the target themselves. Times are changing tho and I appreciate it.

sorry, wasn’t trying to discount anyone’s experience. the only thing is just how real life (psychological) bullying was, in my experience anyway, just perceived as growing pains or kids being kids. even now? idk, i have a hard time accepting that i was bullied even now. so ,,, alskfksl maybe different experiences. i’m probably younger too so things might have been different when you were in school. or not. no clue. but yeah, times are changing, and a lot of media are also meant to play into the power/revenge fantasy so shit tends to get exaggerated
it’s fine i suppose to enjoy, but it can get a bit wearisome after awhile if it’s something constantly portrayed in the shit you consume

lady villains that're only villainous because they're in ~love~ with the dude mc/want his attention

idm it when the mc is actually interesting (see beatrice & battler) but when he's got a grand sum of two personality traits + is obviously a self-insert it's actually kinda...zzzz. give a woman motivations that don't spiral around some boring dude pls!

not a fan of the "because you were nice to me 🥺" type of romance either...

Tokyo is the Centre of the Universe. Or at least, Japan is Only Tokyo. I know creator provincialism is a thing but I'd think that Japanese creators of all people should know better that Tokyo isn't all of Japan or the only place in the archipelago where interesting stuff happens. That's why I liked Katana Maidens/Toji no Miko - because the game and the series seems to go out of the way to avoid setting its plots in Tokyo or within the Tokyo Metropolitan Area for that matter.

In the same vein as the previous isekai mentions, just once I'd like to see a video game isekai populated by characters who actually behave like people who enjoy and play video games. Far too often it's only Protagonist-kun having to explain to everyone else how he pulled off this or that game exploit while the side characters 1) flail around uselessly like idiot teenagers or 2) treat the whole thing as SRSBZNZ as real life and in doing so fail to respect how the game conventions differ from real life.

And in general, I'm so tired of male led isekais in general. Can I please just get one goddamn isekai that has a female lead and isn't harem/romance. At this point I don't even care if it's wish fulfillment trash. Let me have my power fantasy without having to project my asexual definitely-not-male self into a straight male (or a straight female), please.

there’s ascendente of a bookworm, didn’t i say to make my powers average?! and also that. spider one. cute spider woo, is probably the closest to the “rpg” aspect of things w stats and progression n shit. it’s split into two stories that go back and forth where one of them is female led
