So, too, is Death possessed of infinite strategies and a gaunt nature.

He is burdened by love for untenable things.

Though he does not assert that he falls in love at first sight. There's no room in his wisdom for such fancies, or so he claims. Glaringly, he lacks the charisma to be called a Casanova just as he likewise lacks the… ascetic qualities he had known his sister by—and yet he admits his history with the fairer sex to be bewildering at best.

First there was Belinda, who threw cabbages at his head after he patiently informed her he still loved her… but was no longer in love with her. Second came Brielle, who to this day still writes him missives informing him of the health of their ten-year-old "son" (a child who does not exist). Branwyn spitefully eloped with a milkmaid's son soon after she realized the affections she desired exceeded what he could possibly give. Beatrix sent a mercenary after his neck, and Bertha … he would rather not say.

He then licked his cheek before putting his feet on the man's chest and shoving him up and away. He then continued his momentum, rolling backwards in some half-assed somersault and getting up to his feet. "What're ya gonna do about it?"

Ways to give your 'brother' existential dread. Lick him and roll away like a boss.

Which explained a lot, but had he really told James that he loved Joanna?

He didn't, of course. It was a ridiculous notion. Vitale Merlo didn't love his wives, he ruled over them, one after another until fate took them from him and they were replaced. He didn't love Joanna.

So why had he said, even intoxicated, that he did?

Somebody spiked the punch (and everything else) and Vitale's a very affectionate drunk.

Ren had promised not to touch him. He had kept that promise, hadn't he? That didn't mean that he wasn't going to send waves and waves of Baby Shark at a variety of different pitches and tempos. Rishe was still stuck in that seal, his head in his hands, on his knees, screaming for it to stop. But no, it wasn't going to. Ren just stood there, arms crossed before him and a smirk on his face. "What's that? I can't hear you dodoodoodoo."

i don't get angry when i'm pissed; i'm the eternal optimist.
not exactly my last post but it was from last night and this thread makes go through several different stages of :hyperbongocat:

Jack moves to shove him again. Time's running out—

but the question of whodunnit stands, and her ( lack thereof ) answers pens a narrative change, and so shifts the question into, what is utterly simple:

how far is he willing to go for h̵͢i̷͟s͘͜ cause?

The answer, Lucas finds, for someone who's spent a lifetime chasing doing what's right, is incorrect by the words of judge, jury, executioner.

And decides.

coming soon.

"Contentment with your existence?" he asked, eyes seeming to glaze over and lose engagement as he felt the words roughly on his tongue. For some reason, the fact that she didn't say happiness was somewhat reassuring. Still, he couldn't quite wrap his head around the concept until she gave him a more concrete example.

"D... donuts! It all makes sense!"

It made absolutely no sense.

"Dream ghost, do I have any donuts we could try? And do you want any donuts? What's your favorite flavor of donut? Does the flavor even matter, or is it all about enjoying the experience?"

Parasite.

His jaw tightened. Such an ugly word, parasite. Free of insult or not, what it implied was disrespect enough. Deoxys is no leech guzzling blood at Killian's expense. He's stronger not weaker since they joined.

Right?

“I hope you’ll find peace on the other side, Jack.” Her mother’s aim straightens. Jacki’s heart sinks as she realizes the gun is not pointed anywhere immediately lethal. “Because you won’t find it here.”

Ah, yes, Deoxys. The visitor from beyond the stars. Close to a year of searching, and now it was his. They were connected - mind and body. Beneath flesh and bone, inside his veins mixed with his blood, the creature lay. Through their bond came clarity. Limpidity that Fernando and his brume couldn't provide. A gust of wind to a pile of leaves, Deoxys freed Killian from his Silph-made shackles.

He was a rat no longer. If he'd ever truly been one in the first place.

"We all got the dark parts of our history that we don't want to face, but sometimes those demons surface, and we're thrust into the darkness and chaos they bring with them." His rosary stayed clasped in his other hand, the beads dangling a bit from his wrist. "Only thing we can do sometimes is ride out that storm, and pray we see the other side in one piece. And sometimes, if we're lucky, we don't have to face it alone."

A small smile on his lips as he figured that he'd taken her by surprise, as he gets up from his position. Returning back to his seat across from her as she recomposed herself, he looked at her like she was the moon, parts of her hidden away, phases waxing and waning. The pull and push of tides were the water's way of paying their respects and bowing down.

Killian's face twisted; it crumpled into an ugly mess of furrowed brow and sad eyes. He turned and met her amber gaze with a look so full of confliction and hurt that it could only mean the worst.

He knew what he had to do, even if he didn't want to do it. "I should leave." The words come out choked, strained like he tried to trap them in his throat, but they'd forced themselves out.

From a few days back but it still gives me the giggles

”There’s still time, I’ll make you somethin’. Not like I plan on going to my next class anyways.” Did she ever, really? Her attendance was embarrassingly low but what was the school gonna do about it? Call her parents? They’d better have their own ouija board because Kari wasn’t going to supply one.
