I bought a bunch of books online, included in which is Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves. I've only got as far as the introductory passage, so instead of leaving a nice quote, I'll leave y'all with some screenshots of some of the wildest book formatting you'll ever see:

A big black box.
Visual descriptor of my brain trying to put words into sentences.
Tilt your head, then rotate the book.
P.
'Love's love in her blackest season'.

I've also gotten my hands on the last Robots book by Issac Asimov, and while I haven't started on that book itself, I would 10/10 recommend that entire series, it's. GOOD. Human and robot buddy cop detectives in SPACE with some pretty gay subtext what's NOT to love?

Yasss! I literally just started reading that book and I ADORE the vibe! If you're at all interested, we should read it at the same pace and do a pseudo bookclub thing... mostly because I'm horrible when it comes to just... forgetting about where I am in books and accidentally never finishing them.

oml... these are my favorite by far! Hovers 1/2/5 and Icon 1/2 all look like graphics I'd use.

As for editing the lighting in the trees, you can always edit the image in sections. Copy the image, paste it as a new layer right above the original, edit the new layer to get the desired effect in the trees, and then use a soft or partially opaque eraser to erase the parts of the new layer that look weird.

I know a lot of things can be done with "masks," but I can never quite figure out how they work when I try to use them... LMAO

Keep it up, though! You're improving faster than I ever did!

OMG !!! These hovers look so good!!! The improvement you've made in one session is crazy!

My favorites are hover3, hover4 and icon4 by far. And despite the thicker line art, the look of the lines has improved a lot from your previous hovers! V much my aesthetic.

Another thing to pay attention to, like cyanta claus and shiv mentioned, is the cropping portion. Other than composition, be careful about the edges of the image and what you're cropping out. I know that 90% of my time editing images for hovers is figuring out how I'm going to crop it, cropping it, and trying it 10 different ways. I even sometimes move around or hide things in the background depending on how I was forced to crop the image.

For the icons, the blurriness could come from the thinner line art — it's an issue that I often have trouble with when sizing down my images. Uploading them will often make them blurrier, too, which is why I tend to sharpen images, especially icons, a smidge more than I think it actually needs. If you manage to find a fix to this, though, deffs let me know... it's been a weakness of mine for yeARs.

BUT YEAH! Your progress is awesome! I can't wait to see how you improve even more!

ooo! I really like Icon2 and Icon6 (especially Icon6). Maybe it's because they look a little sharper in comparison to the others? I'm not sure...

But one thing that I think you do really well with your icons is the thick line art — which makes them a whole heck-of-alot more clean when you size them down. Tbh, that's probably my biggest weakness with graphics in general.

Other than that, I think breezes hit the nail on the head for the hovers.

... But then again, the only thing I do for my graphics is yeet the saturation up to the moon, drag the contrast down to hell, and sharpen it just shy of making people's eyes bleed... so take my feedback with a grain of salt and know what I do is hella stylized.

Keep it up, though! I'd love to see more of your work!

look man, i used to power out 200+ ads all at once, and i don't regret that or entirely admit i'm not capable of doing that if i felt the desire to. but i just. don't see the point anymore when i don't see any real returns back on it. and especially when i hiss at trying to regularly do those stupid captchas that i fail half the time because i don't care enough to wait through that slow fade or because i "missed" a bicycle or clicked an "extra" car.

I hate hate hate hate hate captchas.

Despite being a Real Actual Human, I fail them all the time. Ironically enough, it's gotten to the point where I'm like, "I wish there was a program that could do these for me."

That said, if I'm in an environment where audio won't be a disturbance, using the audio captcha is easier and faster for me, since I only have to type out what I hear.

I LoVE doing regular potd, but I haven't gotten beyond 100 yet... and I'm also Highkey Very Bad at this game (and not even done with the msq).

My brain is telling me ‘Don’t!’. 1) I don’t have time for staffing, 2) i only like moderating - especially playing NPC characters and making players’ life hard -, and 3) my english is too flawed to do a site.
BUT I wanted to sort this idea out of my system since i know it wouldn’t work in my native community.

***

Despair. You can see it crawling in the shady back alleys filled with thugs doing their business and dreaming of higher places. You can see it in the eyes of the older women rummaging through the bins. Metal, wires, outdated prosthesis, they look for any piece of junk they could sell. You can feel it in the university professors who crave for power and want to throw themselves into politics.

Wolves in cheap clothes are ready to do everything to survive. Selling their native languages or their skills to the point of feeling disconnected from themselves, dirtying their hands or closing their eyes to live a little longer. Sometimes honesty will bring you down. You and the people dear to you. No one is irreplaceable, and this new android seems to be better than you. After all, it just needs hardware checkup. You know those at the top have sacrificed so many things… They can add another sin to their list if it means to secure their spot. To make their life easier.

While making your way under the neon street lights, remember two things: If your emotions cloud your judgment, you’re dead. Don’t bark if you can’t bite.

I just gotta say... if you wrote that blurb yourself, your English doesn't seem flawed in the slightest. In fact, I think it's gorgeous. It provides imagery in a way that's poetic, all while maintaining relevance to the topic and not feeling like superfluous filler. On top of all that, there's a certain rhythm/flow to the writing that's both excellent and rare. Tbh, if I didn't already have a site, I'd want to join yours just to read more of your writing... So yeah, I'm a fan... LOL

WRITING ASIDE THO, I love this idea a lot. Your idea for a monthly post log is great, but staying up-to-date on every thread would be something that I know I, personally, would have a hard time doing as a staffer (kudos if you're the type that can actually handle that, tho!). Other than that, I'm an absolute slut for rp mysteries where untangling a web of lies is one of the main goals.

I can't wait to see where you go with this idea!

i really hate that hunts are the only way to get mount speed increases in xiv

i can never manage to get in on them in time because they're always sniped out so fast and even if i do, i barely get any seals for it. and i find trying to hunt out the a ranks entirely tedious and a waste of time but it's the only way i can manage to actually get seals.

just let me be able to throw my ding dang poetics at it instead, they start gathering up like dust after a certain point anyway, they might as well be able to be a reward for people who reached level 70 and have limited other uses for them

meanwhile, my nooby ass: ... wait... you can get mount speed increases from hunts?!
