I remember that old site! As in, the premise you just laid out sounds really familiar - because I think I might've lurked there on and off, thinking of joining but ultimately mulling over the decision. (Since I was already on an anime superpowers school site back then) The premise you just mentioned was that of Those Among Us, isn't it? Or at least, I think that was what the site was called. But well, now that I'm not on any site at the moment I suppose you can chalk me up as one potentially interested party. I personally think the premise is actually quite creative, even if it's a pretty popular genre.

Since many superpower academy sites (at least back when the genre was in its heyday) are either focused on action/combat in the vein of shonen fighting series (i.e. My Hero Academia), or action takes a back seat to idyllic slice-of-life stuff. I've visited plenty of anime superpower school RPs, but I can't say for sure I've seen one that's - at least based on how the premise was written - more of a mystery-thriller, and perhaps with a dash of cosmic horror on top as well.

When members treat the rules as just a suggestion. I.e. When the rules explicitly ban a certain type of power, or power beyond a certain degree of magnitude, and a member tries to find loopholes and/or gray areas in an attempt to find a "creative" workaround.

So I'm taking it that it would be an OC-driven Counter Side RP? Just asking, because it taking place in the 23rd Century AD puts it WAAAY past the canon events of Counter Side's plots (which AFAIK take place in the 2040's, which is like, well over a century before The Covenant's premise)

Then again, with the concept of Exiles I suppose there's nothing stopping players from applying canon characters from the game either. Over all, a pretty cool concept.

I've always been wondering... I know that calling someone an "animal" or "beast" is commonly used term to say they're really despicable and depraved. But I imagine that to a misanthrope, this term is probably rather perplexing and even insulting. Because y'know, they'd be like, "please don't insult the noble and pure-hearted creatures of this planet by comparing them to these shitbags." I can't say I identify as a misanthrope myself, so I can't be certain, but I've certainly been exposed to enough of them to at least grasp how they think to some extent.

No Way Home was amazing. 10/10 will be going to see again.

The whole thing kinda feels like a fanfic. Of the well-written, actually enjoyable kind I'd add.

It amused me to no end that when I wrote "mortal combat" as in fighting to the death, Google Docs recommends correction to "Mortal Kombat". XD

Speaking of Battle Royales, I've always been curious as to see how an RP whose overarching plot is centered around a tournament (think something like either Kengan Ashura/Omega, Killing Bites, or Record of Ragnarok, etc.) would play out. I think it'd be rad if it's basically an OC-enabled panfandom; but the premise is basically a multiversal tournament. I'd like to think such a RP works best if it's semi-private and has a definite beginning and end. Like, at the start there's a public sign-up phase where characters come from all over the multiverse to participate (willingly or otherwise), but once the tournament plot kicks off, the site goes semi-private. I.e. Still accepting member registrations, but player characters who didn't sign up IC for the tournament can't participate in that plot. Then once the tournament plot reaches its conclusion, the site becomes private and stops accepting registrations. But existing members can still log in to say, wrap up their individual character arcs and whatnot.

If we're gonna be talking about the graveyard of stillborn site ideas, here's a few of mine. XD

Cyber Psychic: My first foray into a fandom-specific RP. Specifically, it's an alternate continuity, canon-divergent Silent Möbius RP. Had intended for both canons and OCs, and while the overarching narrative is meant to focus around the AMP Department (where unlike canon, players can write guys as AMP officers too), there will also be options to play Tokyo Metropolitan Police officers, gangsters, and just plain ol' ordinary civilians.

Ascendancy: A sandbox superpowers RP set in a high-tech, dystopian future of the 22nd century. The emergence of people with superhuman/supernatural abilities known as "Ascendants" during the early 21st century has led to the creation of a new world order. The thing is that this particular premise wasn't made with a central, overarching plot in mind but a sandbox where members are free to explore in whatever direction they like. Whether they want to involve themselves in the power plays and political manoeuvrings of the Ascendant ruling elite, lead a rebellion of disenfranchised normals, or just plain ol' Ascendant or normal folks going about regular day-to-day businesses, is up to them.

People often say, consistency is the bedrock for a good story, and because of this they dislike obvious cases of author fiat such as Plot Armour. But at the same time, I don't think that's always necessarily a bad thing?

Like, if every 'stupid' (I use the word 'stupid' here very loosely because what might seem stupid to the audience from a Doylist perspective, might seem sensible to the character from a Watsonian perspective) decision made by characters always result in 'logically' disastrous consequences, wouldn't that make for a very predictable - and therefore boring - story?

And like, it'd become pointless for the audience to get attached or invested in any of the characters because you know for sure that they'd all be killed off anyway.

With all these 18+ sites popping up, I worry my son won't be able to find a site when he turns 13 in a few months.

Even to this day, it feels a little strange for me to think about it. Like, when I first started dipping my toes into the world of freeform roleplaying, most sites tend to be 13+, which in the context of the internet is effectively all-ages, and you need to comb some hidden corner of the internet to find an 18+ site.

These days? It feels like the reverse. Though understandably this paradigm shift is due to folks having a better understanding of concepts of safety on the internet as stories of catfishing and other incidents reach the public consciousness.

Like, I often hear people remark that they feel safer on age-gated communities than on any "all-ages" site, and I suppose they have a point since that's not exactly an unpopular opinion.

anyone have any good casual-ish f2p-friendly mobile games?

tl;dr i've been looking to try to find a second one i can goof around with when i'm not doing my arknights auto-deploys, and well. genshin + pokemon masters + twisted wonderland can't run on my phone, digimon re:arise + epic seven had too much active grinding to hold my interest (though i loved the story for e7), and i'm leery of giving tears of themis a try since i've heard the gacha is worse than genshin, which is the main reason i haven't gone back to genshin in months so.

i like games with a good story + strong characterization (arknights is v good with that), as well as "collecting" aspects (avengers academy + arknights are v good with that), and i want something that's easy for me to pick up and dabble with when i have some time but not the worst thing to have sit for 8+ hours between checks. gachas are okay as long as it's not terrible for f2ps, i've never played a visual novel but i'm down to give one a whirl i guess, and i have a slightly older android so i can't do anything super demanding hardware-wise.

lay some suggestions on me.

You might wanna take a look at Counter Side (sometimes stylised as Counter:Side) then. So far I've been playing it F2P and found it to be quite generous on its gacha system. And I also find it has a pretty cool plot, strong (as in, having depth and personality) characters and a rich lore.

Probably a combination of both obscure and dead fandom; but I'd be very surprised if there's anyone else on this site who knows about Silent Möbius, and doubly so if they liked the series. Afterall, it's hard to think of an anime/manga series that has a combination of the following:

Action Girls
Police Drama/Buddy Cop Show
Cyberpunk Setting
Urban Fantasy
Lovecraft Lite inspired bestiary
Lots of shout outs to 80's/90's sci-fi and cyberpunk works, such as Bubblegum Crisis, Blade Runner, etc.
