Being right doesn't automatically and always put you in the right.

Referring to people who think that being right gives them the right to be assholes. Aka. "Facts don't care about your feelings!"

I.e. That they can forgo courtesy and basic human decency simply because they have "the facts" on their side in a public discourse.

If anyone has ever wondered why 'smart' people seem to get demonised by popular culture, (see: Insufferable Genius and Straw Vulcan) it's probably due to these people.

I somehow find it's more common to see people who are nice (or at least overall decent) people who can RP pretty convincing asshole characters, than it is to see the reverse of people who are jerks being able to RP congenial and nice characters in a convincing manner.

Currently on a hiatus from Genshin Impact, but what one of the guys on my friend's gaming livestream put it well; Genshin will eat up all of your time if you allow it to.

vaguely in defense of the other side, animanga is extremely decentralized and has been for a very long time, which means it's very easy for sites to exist in their own little bubbles; however, that being said, it is also important to note that forum-based rping as a whole is in the decline since it's a largely insular hobby by this point (case in point: most rp sites don't tend to try to actively recruit from outside the community anymore) + discord is far-and-away more popular these days thanks to the ~instant gratification~ factor, the lower barrier of entry for newer rpers, and the increased amount of "rp starter pack" genres + fandoms.

Bolded for emphasis; cause I feel like I have something to add after recently reading up on "what happened to Web Rings?" Cause that's something I can definitely relate to - like, before the 2010's I recall how it was not uncommon at all for forum RPGs to advertise well beyond the reaches of the PbP RPing community. Like, back in the days of Web Rings and anime portal sites such as the Anime Web Turnpike, I'd often see animanga RP sites promote their games on their links portal. Likewise, on one particularly popular and long-lived animanga RP I was on called Hyakuji High School, back then they even had staffers who got pretty creative with their advertising and promotion, such as making mock trailer videos (which is really just a mashup of scenes from various anime series) and promo AMVs on YouTube; as well as having Wikias and social media accounts.

Which come to think of it, inadvertently advertised the site not just to the RPing community, but to the anime geekdom as a whole - which might probably account for its initial popularity. But yeah, it's probably a case of how technological developments have shaped (be it for better or worse) our culture - i.e. Web Rings and portal sites were all the rage back then because search engines were still rather primitive and didn't have the ability to sort and categorise stuff like they do today, and there was no social media to speak of. So these Web Rings and portals were a DIY solution to the technological limitations of the time. So while it's harder to find stuff back then, everything feels more close-knit. I think a side effect of improvements in search engine technology and the advent of social media algorithms sorting everything into catalogues is that it makes it easy to stuff to exist within insular circles.

Anime superpower institute/school/academy RPGs are my RP first love, and still remain a darling of mine. But I find it so hard to run one these days for a number of reasons.

Chief of them being is that unless it's a slice-of-(superpowered)life type RPs, these sites tend to live and die by their overarching, site-wide shonen-style plots. And as an adult with a working and social life, finding the time or energy to keep these plots going can be a challenge.

And secondly, is how easy it is for the site to drift away from its original themes/genre conventions. I.e. Give the site a few site-wide story arcs later, and it almost becomes a given that the titular academy/institute/etc. will get sidelined.

Like, imagine getting Demoted To Extra but on an organizational or institutional level!

Like, I can't speak for others but I do kinda find it a little jarring when the site touts itself as an anime superpowers academy RP, but hardly anyone is RPing stuff like attending heroing classes, participating in after-school club activities, or having some bonding sessions over food and hobbies.

Instead, everyone and their mothers are off fighting space aliens, battling eldritch abominations, infiltrating Illuminati-esque organisations, etc... um, yeah. What a way to kill my engagement in the setting...

TL;DR I love my big, epic story arcs for the site, so it can be kinda disheartening when everyone is just doing their own big epic story arcs (but somehow calling them "character arcs") without my input. Makes me feel redundant and unnecessary.

Recently read about a species of bird known as the white-browed tit-warbler, which is a really beautiful bird with feathers that make them look like they're displaying a rainbow iridescence. The name though... gets a laugh out of me just saying it out loud. XD

Yes, I know tits are a type of bird and not just mammary glands. But I suspect those who don't know better upon hearing "tit-warbler" wouldn't think of a bird but some kind of sexual deviant, and that's what makes me laugh.

How would a wuxia dark fantasy set in Imperial China (during the Ming Dynasty to be exact) sound?

The high concept of this RP is that at the height of its power, the Ming Empire has extended its borders beyond the reaches of the then-known civilisation; but this also brings humanity into contact with all manner of weird (and often dangerous) creatures that live in places that previously no humans have treaded in. In order to deal with the monster threat at the fringes of the Ming Empire, the emperor ordered the establishment of a secret ministry in the Imperial government, whose agents are specifically tasked at finding and exterminating monsters that threaten the Ming Empire.

The catch, though? The monsters in this setting are closer to cryptids than actual monsters - meaning that they are more biological anomalies and freaks of nature rather than outright supernatural. The primary influence behind this is the Detective Dee film series, where the protagonist investigates seemingly supernatural mysteries that all turn out to have perfectly natural (if anomalous) explanations behind them.

Or basically, it's a world where superstitions and mystical mumbo-jumbo won't stop the demons; only steel and gunpowder and martial training can.

Too often I just jump into making a RPG without first thinking what I want for myself out of it, RP-wise. Which is probably why writing the RP etiquette section can prove harder than usual for me. Cause in order to set certain expectations for a RP, the admin needs to know what they themselves want out of a site, and thus ensure that player actions are conducive towards what they want for their RP. Me? Sometimes I don't even know what I want for myself.

Anyone interested in a modern fantasy/occult RPG in a Japanese urban setting? The premise revolves primarily around conflict between humans and monsters, with a government agency known as the Night Department having recruited Guardians (I.e. Humans from ancient bloodlines that are gifted with spiritual powers) in order to maintain peace and order between the human and monster worlds, and to suppress rampaging monsters and rogue spiritualist, and maintain the masquerade. It's primarily influenced by occult fantasy animanga series and games such as Ga-Rei, Night Agent: I'm the Savior, Kujaku-Oh/Peacock King, etc.
one of my friends found a couple trpgs with a similar premise to this (Kuro and Kamigakari, specifically) and I gotta say—I am Very Much Into This Premise thank u for ur time

It's good to see somebody's got interest! The thing is the RP is already in the process of being put together even as I posted the quick interest check. But people expressing interest no doubt just spurs me on! :D

I'd like to see a crossover or limited panfandom (I.e. Panfandom where the participating fandoms are more narrowed in their scope) involving anime extranormal institutes, aka. Schools that enrol kids/teens with supernatural/paranormal abilities. Like having a crossover between Toji no Miko and Senran Kagura.
