Just want to provide a small update to this, I've got a roadmap planned out an am hoping to launch sometime in early fall (August-September). I would still love to hear from anyone interested in helping build this site. Coders who can make templates would be a wonderful addition, or anyone willing/interesting in sound boarding and helping build the systems. Feel free to reach out to me on discord @ MattwithaSword

Welcome to the World of Euladel

SETTING

[break][break] The World of Euladel is a roleplay forum that exists in medieval times and can firstly be described in an intrusional fantasy setting. It takes inspiration from several works of fiction including, He who Fights with Monsters, Dungeons and Dragons, Game of Thrones, The Stormlight Archive, The Wheel of Time, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Final Fantasy, and many many more. Magic exists in an otherwise "normal" world, but is relatively new, only having been introduced to the world with the coming of "The Tide." About four hundred ago, a portal opened up atop the great mountain Verden Halsen, and from it came five large dragons. The brief opening of this portal allowed some of their astral magic to spew forth into Euladel in a wave known as The Tide. As this Tide came over the world, it had a variety of effects: Creating those blessed with magic, now known as the Tidetouched, scarring the landscape, and mutating the creatures of the land. [break][break] While World of Euladel does allow for some more sandbox and open-world adventures, the primary setting of the forum takes place in a single town by the name of Roark's Rest. Roark's Rest is a smaller mountain town that is brimming with life and a sense of community. The town works together with its citizens and local guild associations to maintain a stable and mostly self-sustained economy, allowing those who live there to do precisely what they desire to find peace and happiness. [break][break]

systems

[break][break] For World of Euladel's systems and play, Characters have a series of soft-stats, cultural boons (racial abilities), talents, Essences and Essence abilities that together help create a more unique and customizable version of character classes and their spells or abilities. Character species (races) include the typical fantasy variants such as humans, dwarves, elves, and more, even including an "outworlder" species that allows you to essentially create your own if you do not find a species that piques your interest. While some talents are focused on gathering and crafting, others are more combat-centric, allowing you to create the perfect character for what you intend to play! [break][break] As stated before, while the world of Euladel does have a vast world with a plethora of things to do, places to explore, and quests to take, all characters at the launch of the site will be citizens of the town of Roark's Rest. Roark's Rest is a very tight-knit community while traders and travelers continue to flow through the village, some even end up staying. It has beautiful scenery, with a large nearby lake and several rivers, as well as forests, mines, and fertile fields, allowing for the mountain town to have easy access to gathering a great number of resources. [break][break] When it comes to adventures, characters will also be able to take up a variety of tasks throughout the village, some aiding the village directly, while other requests come from the local guilds. Things like dungeon exploring, locating and retrieving rare crafting ingredients, or even fighting dangerous beasts! While much of these quests can be taken on by yourself as a solitary writer, or with a group, some of them will be taken on with a designated Dungeon Master, helping you flesh out some of the more intricate details and happenings of your quests and adventures. [break][break]

ROLE PLAY OPPORTUNITIES

[break][break]
Slice of Life[break]
Roark's Rest is an almost magical town, some say. With it's slight isolation, and the warming embrace the town offers to any and all who travel through, the village almost pulls people to stay. It has beautiful scenery nestled within the Halig mountains, with a large nearby lake, several rivers, as well as forests, mines, and fertile fields, allowing for you to explore nearly any opportunity you see fit for your characters.
[break][break]
Crafting[break]
While a large part of our roleplay revolves around questing and combative scenarios, that is far from all that WoE has to offer. We have implimented an immersive crafting system for you to participate in, that while in-depth, is still straight-forward and intuitive for members. You can gather resources from quests, posts, or our forum shop, and use those resources to create unique items for yourself and others!
[break][break]
Questing[break]
When it comes to adventures, characters will also be able to take up a variety of tasks throughout the village. Things like dungeon exploring, locating and retrieving rare crafting ingredients, or even fighting dangerous beasts! For our non-combat oriented characters, however, fear not! There are also plenty of tasks and quests within the world that we want top create insentive for you to participate in as well. While much of these quests can be taken on by yourself as a solitary writer, or with a group, some of them will be taken on with a designated Dungeon Master, helping you flesh out some of the more intricate details and happenings of your quests and adventures.
[break][break]

So what are you waiting for?

[break][break] For anyone who is interested in helping establish the site as a staff member, beta tester, or just holding a general interest, please feel free to reach out to me on Discord at MattwithaSword[break][break] I look forward to hearing from you, and we all look forward to seeing you in The World of Euladel!

I would love to see a high fantasy type site that actually lasts. Most of the ones I've been on in the past last a year, maybe two and then fizzle out and close.

Fight monsters, guilds, magic, mix in some slice of life... I'm even willing to help build it, but experience has shown I can't do it all myself or I get burnt out ;.;

A little idea that has been brewing at the back of my mind for a while now. Not sure whether I'll go through with it, but we'll see what happens.

‣ A medieval fantasy site with a stronger emphasis on slice-of-life and member-made plots
‣ The setting would be reminiscent of 13th to 15th century Europe
‣ Somewhat sandbox-y
‣ Primarily low fantasy — magic would be regarded as a mysterious, fickle force that is — albeit present in the world — not well-understood and generally considered to be dangerous. Characters with light magical abilities would be allowed.
‣ Set in a fairly isolated setting to encourage character interaction. The RP would take place in a single kingdom, more or less isolated from the rest of the world with either stone battlements or deep forests. Venturing beyond the kingdom's borders would be unadvisable and deemed highly dangerous, due to the plethora of malevolent creatures that roam all around (custom bestiary included in the guidebook!)
Short and digestible required reading. Although the site would feature some extra lore tidbits, they would be regarded merely as supplementary materials.
‣ Optional overarching plot (with a handful of canon characters), participation would not be required
‣ Statless, freeform combat
‣ The possibility of small member-made factions: guilds and noble houses. Permits to create these would be purchasable in the site store.
‣ Knights, scholars, royals, adventurers, innkeepers, but also just a bunch of peasants just trying to make it through the winter. Just have fun!
‣ Somewhat inspired by GoT, The Witcher and Sun Haven

If you are ever looking for someone interested in helping staff, I would love to lend a hand. I have a lot of resources Ive created over the years in my own interest of making a fantasy based site and I'd love to collaborate if you ever wanted to chat. Perhaps we can connect over discord?

So I've been tossing ideas together for a couple of sites now for a short while, but I keep coming back to my comfort, Medieval Fantasy.

The site concept would revolve around a homebrew world of my own making, with ideas and inspiration taken from Dungeons and Dragons, World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, Wheel of Time, The Stormlight Archive, He Who Fights With Monsters, and much more. As far as plot, I wanted to open the site ideally with a more sandbox approach, letting people create characters from all over with diverse backgrounds and skill sets before unveiling the major plot arch that will push the site timeline forward.

There would be a plethora of playable races native to the world, with the additional option to play as an "Out-worlder" if someone wants to essentially create their own race. I have created a pantheon, different religions, governments, royal families, ECT.

As far as systems go, I have settled on soft-stats. No health pools or energy pools, only 4 total stats (Body, Speed, Recovery, Spirit) where the numbers will act more as a guidelines or bumper rails rather than strict determinating features. Additionally, I wanted to apply a rolling system for character abilities to add an extra layer of play. Roleplayers would be able to custom make all of their own abilities for their characters that would allow for a wide number of unique builds and player archetypes.

While I have a lot of interest and time invested into this idea already, I fear that I will hit an inevitable wall without help.

Curious how people feel about the use of stats in a roleplay setting and thought I might get a general feel for what people tend to enjoy more.

Hard Stats - Stats similar to what you would expect in a table top or video game scenario. Characters have health or energy pools, stat numbers determine what a character is typically better or worse at. I would also imagine this would lean heavily into some sort of rolling system, like D&D.

Soft Stats - Stats exists but are more used as a guideline. No health pools, no damage numbers, but a characters stats act more akin to bumper rails as far as what they would or would not be capable of.

Statless - No stats at all. Outcomes are typically left between the writers, with setting specific character traits often dictating full character capabilities.

I cannot express how happy I am to see all of this input from the P2 member base. I'm in the works of creating a new forum myself, and while essentially all of my preferences align with what Jcink offers, the admin interface can be a bit daunting. Even while being familiar with JS, HTML, and CSS, piecing together where everything is in the admin can definitely feel a little jarring. PB site creation is definitely easier from what I could see, but Jcink just offers so so much more.
