I maintain it's kinda wild how much importance people place on graphics for a word-based hobby.

For what it's worth, I kinda tune out if a site has too many bells and whistles layout/coding/graphics-wise, because it can be overwhelming. For Pixel Perfect, for example, I don't even pay attention to what's all in the profile or the sidebar, but I think it has a decent balance of fanciness for those who are into that, while maintaining enough of the "basic" forum concept to be accessible to those of us less inclined to busy interfaces.

Posting a graphic with links to your site stuff has been around for two decades, but I also wish advertisements would tell me a little more about the site. I'm more interested in the specifics of your site than art you took from someplace that has little to do with the actual site.

[ I warn people all the time that if the thread doesn't go anywhere I will randomly throw ninjas/monsters/soldiers/muggers/something into the thread to spice it up. lol
we could be six posts in and i’ll throw a dimensional gateway cracking letting unloose beast themed aliens bc why aren’t we doing that more???? Why settle for infinite spawn bandits when we could have more!!

Bruh, I'm still trying to win a 50/50. Hopefully Aventurine is when my luck finally changes... Congrats on the dapper dude! I wasn't gonna pull for him at first (despite my 100% 50/50 loss streak, I have all limited sustains), but then his backstory came and I am down for it.
i feel you though my 50/50 character luck when i was an active genshin player was straight up atrocious. legitimately funny how much that turned around in hsr.

that said, manifesting him for you!! godspeed, his kit + character + backstory are soooo good, man. i hope you're able to grab him!
I sure hope. ;O; I am skipping Acheron for him, but still gotta wait a few more hours before his banner's up for me. Not even asking for the LC, just a copy of Aventurine is enough... I have high hopes he'll let me play Yanqing more.

EDIT: He came! Didn't get the Luka eidolons I was hoping for, but I finally won a 50/50.

(And who threads with other people without reading their ocs' profiles anyway?)
I swear we had this discussion not long ago.

"Content notice" actually sounds sweeter than "Content warning", 10/10 would recommend. Avoids all the negative connotations of the word "warning", is fairly similar to what films and books have been doing for ages, and avoids the troubles of "trigger warning"! Best of all worlds.

Idk if it's stress or what but can my head just stop getting headaches please. It's been on and off all week 😭
Could be either too little or too much sleep too. Sometimes headaches are caused by...headaches, so if you have something that can lessen the pain, that may help prevent a future one.

If it's coupled with bouts of memory loss, disorientation, or speech impediments, see a doctor immediately.

That'd actually be really cool to have. No longer would I blindly wander into CSA histories!

Would probably call it "content warning", though, because these things don't have to be related to just people with...history. Some of us just really don't like certain topics because they bring us down or something, so being able to opt out before you sit down and hash out a plot and figure out it's going to be unpleasant saves grief on all sides of the aisle.

Having gone over thread starters for the past few days, I've noticed there are three distinct ways that people will start a thread starter:

CHARACTER
The thread starts with an introduction of the character. They're either thinking about something, remembering something, or wearing their prettiest clothes out.
Example:
If there was one thing Alastor hated, it was TV. What a ludicrous invention! It had been seven years since he was last in Pentagram City, and the considerable hole he'd left had been filled with...podcasts. Ridiculous!

ACTION
I think this is the one I've seen least, the first paragraph will involve something going on that the character is involved in or will become involved in.
Example:
Her dad had taught her to fight dirty, so the first thing Charlie did was kick the boy in the balls. When he let out an ear-piercing scream and dropped to the floor, clutching the family jewels, Charlie couldn't resist stomping on it. For good measure.
SETTING
Some mention of the weather conditions, or history of the location, or otherwise something located to where we are.
Example:
It was the hottest Sunday recorded in the past sixty years. The sun's glare was like a finely-tuned laser, bringing burning pain to whatever it touched.

Jonah was sitting on a terrace, hiding beneath a parasol, wolving down his ice cream before it had completely melted. The people around him were either doing the same or staring in envy.

Or fainting. Heatstroke, you know.

So!

Out of sheer curiosity, what's your favourite way to start a starter? Note that I'm specifically referring to the first paragraph or sentence, not necessarily the entirety of the post! Also, it's totally fine to have answers that fall outside the three categories I mention above: when answering the question myself, I find it's usually "a mix of Character and Action" for me. In fact, the Action example already shows some "character" stuff, like "Her dad taught her"...

But I don't usually focus entirely on character, like describing what they're wearing or stuff like that, so probably moreso towards the Action aspect of it. Usually I'll fill in the setting once I've established what's going on, but I often wonder if I should focus a bit more on setting instead, to give people more hooks to tie their characters into the thread. Aha ha.

(This is a judgement-free zone.)

I'm always excited to post, so I do it as soon as possible. There's nothing quite like advancing a thread by seven posts on a good day.

Since I'm quickly distracted, I'd probably lose interest if I didn't reply to threads whenever I can; once something's moved out of active memory, I'm chasing the next high. Thankfully in roleplay, that only happens when people need 2+ weeks to post replies, which hasn't been all that often.

I cleaned all the windows today.

There's a storm coming, but I still cleaned the windows.

I cleaned the windows and can do it all over again after the storm.

But I cleaned the windows, because I had decided I was going to clean the windows.

And a schedule once set cannot be changed for something so silly.

Aha ha ha...

Why am I like this

Also lol, Traveller, I was screaming that developmental disability to you? Also that is a joke, I am fully aware I type like a deranged person and understand nothing.
You could not have been more obvious, though I disagree that you type "like a deranged person".
