echoing previous members but mmo site where you can rp the npc-type characters like that one guy who tells you to collect 9900 blades of spirit grass

I changed my mind.

I want to be the guy who forces noobs to go out and collect 10 bear pelts at the beginning of the game. Then I will sell those bear pelts to make a killing since everyone just blindly trusts NPCs...

So if I pretend to be one I can get characters to get all sorts of crap for me!

Hello!

Credit to for making me think in the Post a Random Thought thread, because they said they wanted to see more site events with a social focus. This thread is basically me going 'Hey, that sounds good!' but wanting some feedback from people who have ran that type of thing before to hopefully learn a thing or two. I have only run action type events in the past and have found them to be pretty DM-intensive IE you need to as the DM stay on top of it because group threads have a huge tendency to nosedive in activity if you just leave it alone.

Social type events seem a lot more hands-off at least in theory like maybe just set up an event area/premise and let people go wild in it for a while by giving them concrete things to kind of interact with on their own. Ideas of what kind of premises might work or anecdotes from previous experiences with social focused events would be much appreciated, because I like the sound of it but wanted to see if I could get some ideas or best practices generously donated to me by this lovely community before I go at it alone and promptly fall on my face.

It's 2019 why are we still writing posts inside the forum window and then losing them to: accidentally closed my tab/my laptop power went out/my browser crashed!!!

Google Docs. Please. Just do it. I don't even want to hear excuses.

Or Textarea Cache for the 2 other Firefox users here. Or Word. Or Word Online.

I do one @everyone ping a month on average -- and sometimes even zero. These are basically literally only for site-wide events or site-wide changes.

Nothing grinds my gears more than people who have obviously not read them and ask me to summarize what is in them in the help channel after I post it. It's one thing if there's a specific part I worded poorly and I could see how someone could ask a question, but it's another thing if what they're asking is literally two lines down in bold letters and it's 100% obvious they didn't bother to even open the thread.

Older threads? Sure, it's whatever. I made the docs and I forget sometimes which ones I have up from 6 months ago -- it happens. Literally yesterday? Nah fam, you and I both know you didn't read it.

Someone will take up the MMO mantle eventually.

Pls tag me when it happens. Let me be part of a guild and relive all the WoW-era server drama except in RP.
Where were all you MMO people when I posted up an interest check about a VRMMORPG set in a game during beta testing (idea being game is very glitchy, kind of a darker humor twist on the idea)? XD. Sadly, at this point I've joined enough other sites I don't think I could go about setting up another RP, but as stated I'd be up for a VRMMORPG site.

Since someone else mentioned .hack series, I would note I kind of like something in that direction more. Something like Log Horizon or SAO is in practice they feel more like fantasy worlds with MMO mechanic flavoring. Something like .hack where there's real world interaction as well I think contributes to the feeling of an MMO.

I come here about once a month to remind people I'm on the RNG class MMO train if I can channel my inner Hardcore Leveling Warrior a bit and live and die by some dice rolls. Other people would be much more helpful, because the best I could do is be a consistently meh activity member who only has one character anyway since I admin a site. I barely ever check there and just post here every so often because I feel like 'liking' a post should be done as mostly like a 'yeah I'm on board with this shit sign me up!' sort of thing and not like really frivolously because honestly nothing is more deflating starting out than seeing 20+ likes to the core concept and then having 0 people come on for the opening. It gives you a false sense of security in the planning stages and that's really rough when reality hits -- and I generally have no idea from an interest check whether or not I'd be actually willing to sign up since there's a lot of culture things that may or may not mesh well.

I'm pretty sure I just lost a hundred or so in a rental scam.

I find out tomorrow when I go above this scummy leasing agent to figure out how badly I got screwed over. Best case is that I only get dumped into a slightly more expensive unit than I had planned, worst case is my finances are completely screwed due to having almost zero cushion before financial aid for school comes. I made the mistake of signing more things after they promised to waive an enormous and unadvertised up front fee if I did, but today they tried to strong arm me into signing the original leasing offer (not the advertised price) which was $1000 more up front than it was supposed to be despite the fact I signed the thing.

I tried to save money by leasing apartments instead of the dorms, but now I'll break even at best most likely in addition to having to deal with much more BS.

Every day this fly comes out when I'm using the bathroom at night. It's either the same one that's a goddamned ninja during the day and comes out at night, or a new fly comes in every time. It's loud af and it keeps flying at the light so I hurt my eyes every day in my daily attempt to kill it. I just give up and close the door and use another bathroom for the rest of the night when my eyes burn.

I hate flies.

it's dumb, but sometimes I wish I could go back in time and relive the roleplay forums that really made me feel alive and made me feel a part of a family. I've lost friends and confidantes over the years because long-time forums have closed, and their admins move on. There is nothing wrong with living life and excelling and taking a break from rp, but for the rest of us, the people who always come back to rp no matter how far they stray, it kind of feels like we're like hanging threads -- waiting to reattach ourselves to those sites and friends again, even though, realistically, they may never come back.

People do come back unexpectedly, even if only for a small while. I've randomly had a lot of people reach out to me over the past few years if only to give life updates, and I appreciate the heck out of those every time. Make yourself findable (in my case by literally never changing my username or contact info) and sometimes they do come back for a bit.

Don't give up hope! Reunion RPs are the best thing when they happen.
