Purchasing a paid ad for Fukai Mori!
I'd like to apply the new site discount to this. We're just phasing out of beta and opening to the public now. <3

Here is the image:

Description:

Fukai Mori is a high fantasy, original role play experience, inspired by feudal Japan. The world is plagued by the prospect of magical warfare and the constant struggle to assert dominance over the land.

surely I cant be the only one that drafts stuff in photoshop before I code it?

right?
honestly i use to do this all the time. now i either whip out figma or sketch something on my ipad. it's soo much easier for me to design when i have a visual idea of what im doing.

wait serious q is there any reason these days to use float over flexbox/grid outside of cross compatibility/dragging-IE's-corpse-along stuff?? outside of like, aligning block elements like images n shit with text i basically never use it 😭

speaking of cross compatibility, coding confession: f**k safari all my homies hate safari

realizing no one actually answered ur original q here but as far as i know from some quick googling:

float's fine for small elements, like aligning an icon to the left or right of a post. it doesn't offer the precision of flex & grid or the adaptability, but if you're not looking to have something perfectly centered or do a Specific Thing, then float's a super easy & light weight way to do it. i think the main issue with float (outside of the fact you can't align it specifically to top or bottom) is it can be a little uhh funky?? i've personally never had an issue with it but it can act up - especially if you have multiple floated elements near each other.

i... honestly rlly dislike the trend toward having these rlly large/long images included in a profile. like on the one hand i get the aesthetic, but when your character has maybe two three fanart thats usable, it gets really tricky + its always so much more painfully obvious that you're having to reuse the same art over again ;;

idk, that's just... apping obscure fc troubles. also like. you know... not wanting to spend several hours looking for anything remotely workable or cohesive looking. i get it can look nice but tbh i also just don't feel like you get enough from it in the first place to justify forcing people to have it. it's like... cool and new i guess. but tbh as much as i am all for pretty graphics, when i also draw mine sometimes, it gets really exhausting :'(

i guess this is me begging coders to please think about how difficult its going to be to track down fanart that looks cohesive w each other for all the image requirements ur making
another point: it's also just frustrating for members to have to constantly make new graphics to match these weird and obscure sizes that are probably only going to be used for this one specific site because the next site has its own weird ass sizes. it also makes it so people without photoshop or decent editing skills are having to ask for help w/ graphics.

you can potentially have small weird sizes if you create a container that cuts off the excess without distorting the image and it isn't going to be nearly as much hassle for your members. but these 900 x 200 banners that are literally used in one spot are... obnoxious. to say the least.

graphic sizes these days are about as consistent and standardized as women's bra sizing.

i think comfort / familiarity with your partner is a huge part of this + also plain old fashioned communication. if you have an idea for a thread, but you're not comfortable just doing it, reach out to ur partner and ask how they'd feel about it!! another thing is write threads w set goals in mind, so that way you're already both on the same page about what you want to get out of said thread and can easily move yourselves toward said goal.

a small, super easy thing u can do that can help move a thread forward: moving the setting along.

so like let's say your characters start off outside. maybe it's raining. maybe it's hot. maybe ur character just isnt vibin anymore. maybe they're going somewhere!! you can either 1) have your character ask about going somewhere else or 2) simply move it along in your writing, by basically saying they start walking to a new location.

and like, you dont have to do a big dramatic change either. maybe the moving along is as simple as just walking around a park??

one last tip is to offer small hooks, especially for threads that don't have any particular goals in mind. so going with the park thing again. your characters at a park. maybe your character now sees..... an ice cream truck. it'll be up to the other rp'er whether or not they make use of that.

(sometimes rp'ers DO miss these things, so dont be afraid to be kinda glaringly obvious. like have ur character STARE that ice cream truck D O W N. and i think 90% of rp'ers probably won't care if you imply their characters are walking/moving with yours as long as ur not literally going from the north pole to australia.)

addon: i think moving threads along and making things happen is REALLY difficult for all role players, either because they're not sure how to do it or they have anxiety about it!! but in my experience, writing partners love it when you do things to make stuff happen.

i've been re-reading a lot of spy x family so—

semi-modern espionage (mixed with mutant/inherited abilities) rp set in the fictional backdrop of two fantasy "empires" embroiled in their own brand of a cold war (one side sending spies to preserve peace, while the other side has a reputation to instigate war). abilities shouldn't be big world reality-breaking but be more or less appropriate for covert operations, secret missions, assassinations, politicking, betrayals, corruption, etc.

the whole point is to explore the many facets of maintaining the status quo, how fragile it can be, and what happens when the existing state of affairs is broken.

media references: spy x family, kingsman: the secret service, james bond, x-men, and a lil bit of harry potter (the bureaucratic aspects & visual aesthetics).

i dont make sites, but i do like 2 give ppl ideas... so some1 pls, save me and take my ideas!!
im not contributing to this thread but i do want to say spy x family is so good :sob:
