Hello naughty children it is I, the horrible krampus of books here to shower you with my taste in literature.

Actually, I'm looking for some people to follow on Storygraph. I wanna scour your TBRs and read what you have read, and broaden my horizons a bit. Since changing my recommendation preferences is Annoying, perhaps I can find some of you lovely people with different book preferences. Plus we can compare our reading goals and generally have a good time.

So. Here's my Storygraph. It's a little bare because I'm not recording Every Single Book I've Read in the past year or two, but I'm using it to try to keep to my reading goals. If you don't have a Storygraph, I recommend it! It's really great for tracking books you have read or want to read, and it spits out new recommendations all the time. It's also ad-free and more sleek in appearance than Goodreads.

If you do look at my TBR, you'll find I very much like fantasy and memoirs, and also classics, but Storygraph isn't giving me too many of those rn so we'll condition it to those tastes later. We can also pitch discussions on books we're already reading, and maybe do some Buddy Reads? I wanna do a Buddy Read with someone ;w;.

My next book is The Well of Loneliness by John Radclyffe Hall, and it's a 1928 romance novel about lesbian (and/or possibly trans) life in those days from a sympathetic perspective (i'm taking it as nonbinary masc representation but it could also be trans man rep, who knows, the labels and queer structures were Different then). Currently reading 1984 by George Orwell, and then maybe gonna dive back into more works by Elie Wiesel after I'm done with The Well of Loneliness. Or I'll read Everfair by Nisi Shawl, which looked pretty cool.

Gimme ur books.

people are complaining about faction identity with the recent wow faction loosening and i'mma be honest, i don't give a shit about anyone's argument that fictional characters and their feelings should dictate the game.

if you've never played alliance seriously (and i mean doing heroic or mythic raiding and mythic+ dungeons), you don't understand how bad this faction has it and how bad the splitting of the playerbase means that there is no faction identity anymore. there's horde, and then there are the horde players that wanted to play alliance but knew if they weren't playing horde they would not have guilds right now.

xfaction guilds pls.

That does lead into a discussion on line height, letter spacing, and font size that imo should be discussed heavily with your memberbase. I'm studying javascript so I can make a toggle for these things, too, but we'll see if it works.
Super tangential warning, but
I was joking a while back with my admin that we should make a "You Have To Design The Skin" skin where we provide a simplistic base, and then also a bunch of colour pickers and dropdowns and such to set a new dominant colour, font, font size, padding, border radius, etc. etc

Way overkill and would probably need JS on every single page, but I still lowkey think about doing it just because nothing motivates me like shenanigans
oh yeah doesn't sound practical due to the loadtimes it'd require, ESPECIALLY on mobile, but I think it'd actually be fun to do.

tbh sans serif is actually preferred in web design because it's easier to read on a screen.

that being said, might be worth discussing accessibility needs with your members. some serif fonts are actually better for dyslexic players, and it could be worth it to have an alternate skin that changes the font for readability. even if it doesn't look pretty, letting your members actually be able to read your site content seems like a strong decision.

i am not saying serif should be a default, though, because everyone's accessibility needs are different. however, when we are running sites with multiple skin options, it feels pretty easy to make sure everyone's reading needs are met. someone who reads serif better can use the serif skin that uses a dyslexia-friendly font and larger font and better letter spacing, and someone who reads sans serif better can use the default skin.
you bring up an interesting point (re: readability) which got me researching a bit, and, well —

i discovered that serif fonts are actually more readable while sans serif are more legible.

there's an entire print history that is tl;dr to explain, but essentially serif fonts are the typewriter's old style (new york times still uses serif fonts for their body content) while sans serif is a departure of the past, which was pioneered by the bauhaus movement (1920s).

when it comes to computer screens there is little to no evidence which is better / easier to read.  it's actually more about how the body text is coded. e.g. real life rp sites are known for their serif fonts but they're also notorious for their small print (fun fact: serif fonts are easier to read on a smaller scale). sans serif, on the other hand, is associated to cutting-edge design and commerce—its also used for highway signs bc its legibility is easier to discern from a distance.

ultimately finding the right body text is a balancing act between user experience and the "aesthetic" you're trying to achieve. i personally like to mix and match different fonts and font families (though i have a preference for readable fonts over those that are simply too script-y/unreadable).
yeah i was told in web design that sans serif for body text is vastly preferred in most cases because it reads better, but then after this discussion noticed that several of the ebooks I'm reading use serif font.

That does lead into a discussion on line height, letter spacing, and font size that imo should be discussed heavily with your memberbase. I'm studying javascript so I can make a toggle for these things, too, but we'll see if it works.

so i think discussion boards can be useful in liberal arts classes where actual discussion of the topics covered in class are valuable to understanding the concept and forming your own opinions but like

hi i'm an IT student

being asked to describe specific software development methodologies

and every other student's post says the same thing mine does

....what is even the point of replying? what am i gonna say? "no i disagree about waterfall development, it's actually not rigid" like some contrarian?

i'm just going "hey your post is good i think we should use both methods :)"

I had a random person pop into the Discord for my friend and I's site and they only typed in really obviously google translated spanish, and their last message was something about how they'd been banned on several Discord's for speaking spanish and...Coming from a family of bullfighters? They left after that so it's no big deal but it was such a weird interaction...
ah yeah this troll.

i don't get what the point is when all you're doing is getting immediately banned.

Vi - League of Legends - Daughter for Warwick, sister for Jinx
Hello! I'm the Warwick player who wants a Vi to play off of. We also have a Jinx you should talk to and plot with, so remember to do that. My opinion is not that Vi is Vander's favorite, but as the oldest and nearly an adult at the time of Arcane, he's much harder on her than the others. He's aware of the power she holds as the Oldest Sister, and that as the oldest she has special responsibilities the others don't. It's the same power he had over the other neighborhood kids when he was the biggest and strongest and oldest. So what we see in Arcane was just what was necessary to show.

Of course, he's Warwick now, so the poor puppy doesn't remember his dear daughter. But her scent is weirdly familiar and he's going to have memories come back to him as they interact more. How does Vi feel about all her family being either dead or crazy? We'll see.

Camille - League of Legends - Possible Soulmate for Warwick
So I'm open to crossover ideas, but I'm kinda sold on this idea of Camille and Warwick being each others' soulmates. It doesn't even necessarily have to be romantic, and given the monsters they are I'm not sure they will have that connection. However, Warwick and Camille could have really interesting interactions. Warwick regrets the monster he is, while Camille sees what she has to do as necessary and important. It'd make a neat, dark dynamic between two champions I don't think anyone sees but me.

Seraphine - League of Legends - Friend for Warwick
Okay so this is a weird one but hear me out. Seraphine's thing is her empathy and her ability to hear things. I like the idea of Seraphine not being a completely shallow, self-absorbed pop star and would love to see someone give her depth and story, and I think I have a unique pitch for this. Warwick's a big scary monster, and perhaps Seraphine has some way to reach him with magic and music. As a result, perhaps he becomes pacified around her, and kinda becomes her big werewolf friend. She can give him ear scritches. Her interactions with Camille might also be interesting, so if I could get both Seraphine and Camille for Warwick, that'd be really cool!

Crossover Love Interest for Edelgard von Hresvelg - Any fandom, even OCs if you wanna save for it
Hi I don't ship Edeleth! And I'm playing Church Route Edelgard so it does not make sense for her to be with anyone from 3h! So I'm apping Edelgard, and I'm looking for someone who is not from Three Houses to pair with Edelgard! My top choices are Jaina Proudmoore from Warcraft, and Darius from League of Legends. I am open to other ideas. As a note, my Edelgard is aged up to about 32 due to her time spent on the panfandom, and she has erased her Soulmate mark because she refuses to let the gods have power over her again, so this ship will not be a soulmate thing. She's something of a folk hero in the panfandom world due to her fearlessness and bravery in battle, and has decided returning to Fodlan is off the table. So while her morality is weird, most characters don't actually know her dark past and she's not really known as a War Criminal. I'd prefer to not start her in a relationship, but I'm okay if they're not strangers before.

Cloud Strife - Final Fantasy 7 - look we have everyone but Cloud
So I play Aerith Gainsborough and we've got a few other FF7 canons sitting around, and I think a Cloud could be fun. I think our Tifa ships Cloud/Tifa, and I'm open to whatever with Aerith (including aerith/cloud/tifa, or just keeping things platonic). Aerith's just my baby and I wanna have her tease Cloud.

Other notes: I'm also open to plotting with characters not on this list and I would super love if you pitched me ideas for muses you want to play and were open to Crossover stuff. Talk to me about my Sett/Xayah/Rakan polycule headcanons.

late on the inclusive discussion but:

when i say my sites are inclusive, this means i'm going to be doing my best to make an environment that isn't transphobic, racist, homophobic, ableist, or sexist. it means i'm striving to make an environment where you can create a trans character and not immediately be told "well i don't know how to thread with trans characters." it means i'm not going to make you earn the right to play a disabled character. it means i'm not going to insist that only cisgender heterosexual characters can be leaders. i'm not going to punish a player who only creates female characters and immediately assume they're only after shinies.

all of these i have issues with in the past in my fandom, and these are things I have been deliberate to avoid. i also try to lead by example here by playing a diverse cast.

what it doesn't mean to me is that you allow any asshole into your space and upset the balance of your RP. that's not inclusive-- that's being spineless.
