i used to be p anti-stats during the first few years ive spent joining site rp proper (2018-2021) but ive honestly found over time that i really, really, really love systems and tabletop mechanics and honestly consider it a pretty solid way to "powerbalance" people, introduce new and fun outcomes, as well as guide rp, so my vote tends to lean toward hard stats these days. soft stats can be fine if a system knows how to properly integrate it, but i do echo what safi said: often, going statless is better than soft stats when a system isn't able to really account for the variables that make tabletop really Work(TM)

yes. understanding that stats/systems/table top mechanics creates a balanced, great, and unique atmosphere without sacrificing character desires and needs is true enlightenment.

i, too, prefer soft stats or hard stats. statless is fun and has its uses for storytelling overall, but often when you throw statless in sites w/ magic/powers and etc it creates scenarios of uncertainty.

welcome 2 the math rp community.

yung kae: *points forward*

*mother turns yung kae kae another direction*

mother: what direction is this?
yung kae w/ a straight face: north.

i thought north was always the direction i was facing. i know my mother was like holy fck smh.

I had this experience of being surprised at how detailed plotting is now, compared to the sites I played on back when I did the most significant amount of RP. I’ve since adapted to a lot of changes and I can adapt to this one as well . And my mind has been opened to coin flips/dice rolls lately, just to add to it all

There's merits to planning and obviously major things should be discussed or touched upon at some point to ensure everything’s on board and all that, but I do have lots of fun not-quite-knowing what will happen next. There is a balance to strike, which can really depend on who you're writing with and the characters invovled as well

I’m on maybe a 20% planned / 80% emergent preference, and of course, this isn’t really set-in-stone, but it is fun assigning percentages to things

i'd have to agree! coin flips and dice rolls are great in terms of not completely controlling the environment/narrative and giving your character different situations to respond to on the fly.

moral of the story: if an old old old friend reaches out 2 u, just pretend u never saw the msg.

au gotham city rp.

everyone is a civilian, criminal, or vigilante.

batman + joker + major gotham ppl are just event npcs to assist in driving a story.

2022 has been the year of kings, queens, and knights.

i demand 2023 to be the return of our overworked/underpaid doctors, teachers, and police officers.
