I love but am also embarrassed that our first event is like 30 posts long, mostly because I kept making mistakes and having to correct them like there are 3x posts in a row of me being like sorry did this sorry did that sorry fixed that. #dweebiest admin ever o((βŠ™οΉβŠ™))o.

Anyone have a dad who writes in all caps? My step dad did that and I've seen other guys do it. It's always written the same way it's kind of nostalgic to me, even though my step dad was pretty much as strict as a military man. Looking for font for my character and just randomly thought about this.

❝Why was he so difficult? She clenched her jaw in frustration. He was handsome but he had a prey look to him...which meant he should have been easy to control. Yet he was so...full of fire that burned her every time she drew near.

Really love the animation, can't remember if I posted this one up or not, but 10/10 it pulled on my heartstrings watching the progression.

❝"I'm not a puppy," she straightened and looked to him with amusement, because a puppy was exactly what he was to her. A pup that had stumbled into a wolf's den. "I can find my way around just fine."

I struggle with coding so I just...cheat and do graphics that 'look' like coding. xD

Hehe... just hit 50 rp posts in ~the span of a month! I've been writing like crazy recently, I've genuinely been having such a fun time! Super charmed by the fact that forum sites can track your post count like this and you can see how 'far' you've gotten; it's a lot harder to see this kind of thing on Discord!

This was so cute to read this morning, thank you. Congrats! I hope you keep building your post count. I like forum rp for a lot of different reasons. β™₯ For my own thought, UGH, when I can't find the artist no matter how many reverse image sites I look at........

But to the member who mentioned face claims being a reference, they aren't, 99.99% of the time they are a 1 to 1 right down to the clothes, the tattoos the piercings of whatever the FC looks like. Not only that but a lot of sites now don't even bother with an appearance written section, so how do you make changes to your FC? Some sites don't even let you edit the FC, like changing the hair or eye colors.
sites that don't let you edit fc is wack. any oc rp site that cares so deeply about that has completely forgotten that they're an oc site, not a canon site. i don't think i understand how an fc can be one to one though. i have to assume you're solely using canon pics, or you're vetting art to the detail, because a lot of art of characters is not consistent in themselves.

you're free to be attached to a face claim and feel like they are your character to its essence. but i personally have a hard time justifying the amount of stress and shit that comes from people acting like children over face claim reserves in a writing hobby. i'd rather treat them as headcanons, like voice claims, all completely valid, if it means i never have to deal with someone having a public meltdown because i 'sniped' their ideal fc when i was a new member again. i think this is a shared pain point; experience with people whose attachments lead to them refusing to play nice with others. but also it's not the main reason for face exclusivity that was brought up anyway. faceclaim possessiveness was something being mentioned tangentially. the biggest problem is the hoarding that fc non-exclusivity could solve by making it not matter (and of course, make reserve wars encouraging people to make characters that they're not actually that invested in and never rp, just to snag the fc first blessedly redundant).

there's also something so removed and discordant to the fact that none of us actually... own any of these designs? and we're treating them like they're unique to our oc? a complete make or break? i get it - i do - i also see fcs and think "oh character from rp x". but it's no different to having been on multiple sites and seen the same fc or names used over and over and having to adjust.

i'm also coming from a place of selfishness, i'll admit. the less rp focuses on graphics in general, the less stressed i'll be as a coder too. less to script, less to code, less to design, please & thank you πŸ˜₯

tldr, there's nothing wrong with forming attachment. i do too. i just don't feel like i can use it to justify face claim exclusivity anymore. your mileage may vary, that's fine too; i'm not running a site any time soon, so (^._.^)οΎ‰ to be fair, its all just me speculating about what would be best for the rpc lol which doesn't mean it will be good for every circumstance, or that at least 90% of what i say isn't utter bs

I do really like what you said about not owning the original design. This is 100% something that keeps me up at night. If I could draw in a way that I was happy with I'd love to design my character's from the ground up. That's such a dream and I have SUCH admiration to those who can do something like that. They are brilliant people. β™₯ For now, all my talent lies is in writing and loving my characters and the passion that flows from others and their creations, I have formed an attachment to my characters face claims and names etc. But I will never be cruel to those who have taken the FC. I'm sorry for anyone who has to deal with that type of behavior. I don't condone it at all.

For myself as well, roleplaying has never been just a hobby to me, it is my life's passion. I spend hours daily writing, creating graphics to visualize the stories made and all sorts of dorky nicknacks. But that's just me. Whether it's your passion or your hobby, the most important thing is to not let that be cause to treat someone else poorly.

I think FC hording is bad, that's why it's good to structure your site in a way to avoid someone swiping 50 faces and doing nothing with them.

A face claim to me is personal, just like a name, just like my character's profile. They connect for me and mean something. Whereas character's I don't really care about, you can take their name, their face claim, be inspired and pluck from their storylines, I don't care because they are vacant of meaning to me.

I don't think there is anything wrong if you personally want to share your face claim, or have people who look alike to your character etc that's fine, it's your choice and what you are comfortable with.

But I don't agree with this narrative to trash talk people who care about the face claim they use, and label them 'possessive' of their face claims. These people have formed an attachment to their creation, they've stayed consistent enough with the FC that is who they see them as. What's wrong with that? Nothing, there is nothing wrong with caring about your creation and wanting to stay consistent with them.

Of course don't be mean about it, don't bully or target someone because they are using your FC and you want it, just move onto a site where someone isn't using it.

I also want to mention that it doesn't just go with your own FCs as well, you can form the same connection to other people. For myself I see a name or a FC and if either of those suddenly change but they are the same person, I really struggle with that because I come to recognize them...the same way you recognize your friends faces or names.

Death is just a new beginning.
Ever since AI came out, I knew it'd be used in the rp community, it made me sad to know that the creative uniqueness of roleplayers would dwindle even further. The sad reality is we'll end up in a place in the near future where AI writing is acceptable and to speak against it is the new 'uncool'. So long as the younger generation of rpers are introduced to AI, it'll become the norm to them, and gradually they will replace us, until it becomes rather rare to find someone who doesn't use AI.

I think about deviantart, and how it used to be so common to see the artists original characters, soon that was replaced by paid content, people not drawing their own creations but being paid to draw others, finally now the place is littered with AI art.

We are all just people getting old, being replaced by the 'new'; new attitude, new opinions new tolerances. Eventually we all find ourselves in a position of our grandparents 'back in my day, we wrote posts, none of this AI robot junk, those were the good days'. People will use AI for people they don't want to write with, so they can get to posts they want to reply to, because they are lazy, tired, busy etc they'll do it because they can't think of anything to write, on and on.

All writing depression aside, how do you guys police ai writing? Is there a website you can go to in order to see if it's written by AI or not? I admit I have been overly paranoid with everyone I write with now wondering if I'm dealing with ai writing of some kind. So if there is a way to be sure I'd love that.

I want to join another site but my anxiety won't let me.

Anxiety is a huge bully, if you have a friend you trust! You should join with them, I find that helps a lot with anxiety. Good luck to you!

Piling on my list of things I'm finding I don't like about jcink.
β€’ can't go ctrl b for bold, i for italic etc,
β€’ when you click the button at top for bold it codes it as [this] <instead of this>
β€’ apparently SPECIAL characters such as π–™π–Šπ–˜π–™ will be completely destroyed to οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½! if you save it under preview edit, you must always full edit to make sure it doesn't murder your special characters
β€’ can't delete your account

Just lost a bunch of cool edits I did in a topic that I spent an hour on to a doomsday of οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½ =_=;;;;;;;;;; -internal screams-

I can do it in notepad, or wordcounter.net, as long as I can see the original post so I know what I'm responding to I'm good. I don't use the posting areas on a site ever, because 1: can't see the other person's reply and working on the 'memory' of what I've read always leads to me missing things. And 2: if I lose a post it's a pretty big blow to me, I get really IC when I write, so it's a very raw immediate reply, but if that gets wiped and I have to start over, it's never as IC and honestly it just sucks to lose something important to you, so I don't take that risk.

A little idea that has been brewing at the back of my mind for a while now. Not sure whether I'll go through with it, but we'll see what happens.

β€£ A medieval fantasy site with a stronger emphasis on slice-of-life and member-made plots
β€£ The setting would be reminiscent of 13th to 15th century Europe
β€£ Somewhat sandbox-y
β€£ Primarily low fantasy β€” magic would be regarded as a mysterious, fickle force that is β€” albeit present in the world β€” not well-understood and generally considered to be dangerous. Characters with light magical abilities would be allowed.
β€£ Set in a fairly isolated setting to encourage character interaction. The RP would take place in a single kingdom, more or less isolated from the rest of the world with either stone battlements or deep forests. Venturing beyond the kingdom's borders would be unadvisable and deemed highly dangerous, due to the plethora of malevolent creatures that roam all around (custom bestiary included in the guidebook!)
β€£ Short and digestible required reading. Although the site would feature some extra lore tidbits, they would be regarded merely as supplementary materials.
β€£ Optional overarching plot (with a handful of canon characters), participation would not be required
β€£ Statless, freeform combat
β€£ The possibility of small member-made factions: guilds and noble houses. Permits to create these would be purchasable in the site store.
β€£ Knights, scholars, royals, adventurers, innkeepers, but also just a bunch of peasants just trying to make it through the winter. Just have fun!
β€£ Somewhat inspired by GoT, The Witcher and Sun Haven

OH my gosh, I was just talking about making a medieval site since I never see them, so seeing this is great. I'd 100% be interested in joining!
