Just a paragraph that stood out to me on re-reading.

He didn’t know why, for her in particular, he felt a need to reassure. It wasn’t a desire he’d held towards anybody else, yokai or otherwise; his desires were limited inwardly. Me and my wife were working on a Lancer/Cowboy Bebop/Monster Hunter inspired mecha site called Demolition. There's a whole Google Doc out there full of mechanics, lore, the skeleton of mecha stats and WIP customisation systems, and even a whole ass mock-skin. I could only get a hold of the main home page mock, though I know a miniprofile and subboard/post page was completed in scratchpad.

The only reason it never saw the light of day was because I couldn't wrap my head around skinning. I offered a few people $$ to convert it but nothing ever got finalised.

That's so common. It's one reason I'm not as active in the community at all. Only like, 1 in 100 ever seems to reciprocate. It gets lonely hearing about 'oh x invited me to y' and you end up being like 'oh but they didn't invite me...' and after so many times its like. ok, guess i'm never going to have friends lol.
