“Does it give you pleasure, then?” She leans close enough that their shoulders brush. Her whisper is that of a lover’s, tickling the skin of his neck. “To be threatened?“

Was he like her, dancing precariously close to an inferno in the hopes of feeling its burn?

finished babel by r.f. kuang two hours ago (still not over it, such a good book) & it put me in the mood to read more adult fantasy centered around postcolonialism. so i just started black sun by rebecca roanhorse and three chapters in, vibing. one passage i rlly liked thus far includes:

He knew his mother’s people carved their flesh as a symbol of their perpetual mourning for what was lost, and he was proud to bear the haahan, but tears still flowed down his cheeks.
I picked up Black Sun some time ago and intend to read it fairly soon! I've been on a Sci-Fi binge lately and that book's premise really stood out to me. Hope you enjoyed it!

Atm I just finished Starter Villain by John Scalzi; a very funny and entertaining novel if you're looking for something a bit lighter and mindlessly entertaining. I've been reading through the Murderbot Series, starting #3 soon! I absolutely love Murderbot, what a character.

The book I enjoyed the most this year (so far at least) was probably Becky Chambers' The long way to a small angry planet.

If I feel inspired by a plot/thread/situation then I can get replies done fairly quickly. I consider myself a slow writer (comparatively), and prefer to keep a limited number of threads going so I don't stretch myself too thin. Sometimes when there's events I can hoard threads, but I usually just write as I go.

Also, has anyone ever used Grammarly? I've never used it myself, but I know some people do.
I use Grammarly! It really helps me catch my common mistakes (commas, mostly - so many comma errors!) but I frequently ignore it when it makes suggestions that just come down to style. It's got a handy Chrome extention so it's active when I'm writing on site like a madman like one does.
Ah, that sounds exactly like what I needed. I think I'll give it a try. ;) Thank you!

I used to write directly in the post box like an absolute maniac.

Recently I've been using an app called CalmlyWriter. There's a free version, but the actual app itself isn't expensive. It's easy to use and helps filter out distractions while you're writing. It has several dark modes too, which is great for my poor eyesight.

I know there's other apps out there like this, and I'd love to hear more recommendations. Also, has anyone ever used Grammarly? I've never used it myself, but I know some people do.

I love the idea of getting to know a new character. I know who they might be, but I only really start getting to the good, juicy bits after some roleplaying and having them interact with the world and other characters. Alternatively, I like to explore how different settings can change a character (outside of some core characteristics).

That said, I've been roleplaying the same character for 3+ years haha.

I keep using book face claims, of all things. My characters are predominantly female and I find that anime/manga FC's don't really work for me. They usually look far too young.
Also because I am clearly a glutton for punishment when it comes to consistent artwork.
