i think a lot of it has to do with the rising expectations for what a rp site should look like. back in the day, you could basically make a skin yourself on proboards v4. throw some codes (bc everything was a lot more open source back then) and you had a website. but now, there's just so much shit that goes into starting a website. you can't just have the nice skin, but you have to have the really nice templates, everything has to look semi-professional for anyone to want to join it. 

whereas with discord, it's relatively easy to set up. if you understand how bots work and know how to use them, you're in business. you can manage a discord almost the same as you would a rp site, without all of the bells and whistles, but also all the extra bullshit expectations and aesthetic nonsense that goes into setting up an rp site these days. 

while i agree with you, and staunchly prefer forums over discord for frequent rp- i think it's very easy to see why so many people have made the jump. 

literally idk how leap and the others can code seamlessly between jcink and proboards. ubbc has such goofy rules that idk how anyone works around it. that being said, the people who can terrify me in a way that i mean it as a compliment.

idk why but there's something in me that feels a need to play the competitive version of any multiplayer game. it's like a compulsion? like esp with games like overwatch, i find the normal quick play to be so..........boring. like unless i'm playing quick play with friends i exclusively play competitive. i just find the game so boring otherwise. idk why. i wish i didn't, tbh, since my friends aren't like that and frankly, i'm not that good LMAO

lately i haven't been able to get my own head out of my own ass, especially when it comes to designing. for me, functionality is key and i get annoyed if design supersedes my ability to do what i want to do quickly (like log in/out, change accounts, etc) and i vowed my own skins would never be like that. so all of my skins are extremely straightforward. but now i'm in this tiny box yet again that i've made for myself that i can't get out of lmao

i feel like i remember someone talking about a deep space nine esque situation for a panfandom roleplay setting that would be rad as hell. it would lend itself really easily to a horror/mystery aspect as well. people wake up on this creepy ass station and/or are disappearing from it dun dun dun

truly any horror movie scenario is a lose lose scenario for me. i die, i die. i survive, i have to deal with the absolute nonsense that inevitably follows the consequences of the movie. like fr imagine having survived thru an encounter in like terrifier, worse than having just straight up died imo
