i've forgotten how to read, unfortunately. i have this issue where if i don't immediately start another book after i finish one, i struggle to keep up the momentum. the books i'm reading rn are books that in theory, on paper, i should be all about. might be one of those situations where i just gotta start fresh and come back to the ones i'm trying to read rn.

maybe i just need something completely different from what i'm reading rn. i haven't read a fiction book in almost 2 months, maybe i'll read some braindead procedural or something.

taking recommendations if anyone's got them. i'm trying to be more open minded and try books that normally i wouldn't, and i've been pleasantly surprised a few times! but brownie points if your rec is horror, procedural/law thrillers, thrillers in general, sci fi or any/all of the above
Have you read Carmen Maria Machado's short story collection, "Her Body and Other Parties"?
A few stories are horror, one is a deconstructed procedural + horror. She's also a wlw and her stories are about wlw as well. Content warnings can be checked here: app.thestorygraph.com/books/17646859-a40d-406e-bb2e-57e81ba0e6ec

When I'm in a reading rut, I usually reread favorites, or look at short story collections so that I can read them completely out of order. Did that with Machado a few years back, actually.
omg! i remember when this came out, and i totally forgot about it. thank you for the rec, i will see if can grab it on like, spotify or libby or smth

I just don’t see the faces as a problem. If somebody asked me to share (and I have offered for example to let somebody play the younger version of a face I use) then no issue whatsoever.

not to jump on the bandwagon but honestly, i don't get it either. and honestly i feel like this is one of the very few things that is starting to change for the better, is this weird possessiveness over certain fcs that used to be a lot more common.

like i remember one time i asked a relatively well known person in the community at the time just for the name of the fc they were using bc i thought it was a pretty fc. and the way this person immediately accused me of stealing their character for asking for the name of the fc? like bro i promise i don't care about your character. i just think the fc is cool and have an idea of my own for it.

i dunno, i just assume if someone also wants to use the same fc i have, that that is the case. hell, i might even be more inclined to try and plot with you because they have the same fc. here, take the icons i've had for this fc since 2009. let chaos reign, baby.

if you're truly curious about the process, there are definitely guides out there that can teach you. there's nothing wrong with being self-taught, a lot of us are! i'm not perfect at it but if you were interested, i could offer some help.

good luck on your journey, wherever it takes you!
do you have any recommended guides for skinning? i'm interested in learning but idk where to search/what tutorials are good :0
funny that you mention that! i actually just found this place like 10 minutes ago. it's a base and for jcink, but what's nice about it is that this person labeled all of the variables for you, so until you're more comfortable, you can just kind of pick it apart and edit it to your heart's content. it's a fairly blank canvas as well, so there are a lot of things you could do to make your site look a little more unique even with a more limited skillset. i believe there's also a responsive version of it as well.

i'm a "learn by doing" so this is the type of resource i would use to learn how to do something. i usually find that yeeting the entire stylesheet into codepen at the start, when i intend to skin something, helps tremendously when it comes to transferring the skin back to the site. it's kinda annoying to scroll up & down all the time, but don't be afraid to physically move elements around in your stylesheet. the thing won't break if you move the wrapper closer to the body and :root lmao

so unfortunately i'm not a big fantasy reader, but i am a big audiobook fan. do you have spotify? because i recently found a spotify playlist with free audiobooks! a lot of them are public domain books, but it's still a cool resource. if you don't have libby already, you def should download it. i listen to a loooooot of audiobooks that way.

also i know jeff and his company is like legitimately evil, but audible is invaluable to me. she and i have a really toxic relationship, but she pulls me back in every time........ever since they added in the "plus catalogue", i've been using audible a lot more often. the plus catalogue are free books that come with your membership, and the selection, at least as far as my personal reading tastes go, has been great. i've been pleasantly surprised numerous times when i go to look up a book i can't get thru libby, only to find that it's free for me to read from audible.

diesel-steampunk, mechs, fantasy loosely based on wwi era. main setting is loosely inspired by spain, religion taken from the greek pantheon, a rlly weird and different magic system using sound and ideals. live in a shitty corrupt island city trying to survive in the midst of a universal war they aren't a participant in. character-driven, low commitment, no major site plot (small-scale site essentially) but the setting itself lends to a lot of unhinged possibilities if players actively start them. pilot airships and automaton mechs baybeeeee.

main pegs include: dishonored, bioshock, mistborn wax and wayne era, wuthering waves, six of crows, pathologic, disco elysium, masquerada: songs and shadows, steelrising, amberlough, leviathan by scott westerfield

dude this would go SO HARD?? my real intro into the community was a steampunk fantasy pirate site and i have always loved the genre

bex is shorthand for my real name, to the shock of everyone lmao. baby me wasn't creative, and all of my close internet friends know me by this name, so like, i'm kind of stuck with it forever.

the jeepers cats thing started off as a joke tho. my grandma says "aw jeepers cats" and i started saying it as a joke. it always STARTS that way doesn't it. now it's like my brand and i'm just rolling with it.

my icon is by one of my fav artists, dead_seagull_ on instagram and i'm literally obsessed with her art.

this is such an interesting concept. would you keep the vampirism aspect? also would give you room to have someone bring edward back and be like, "hey babe i'm back" and your bella swan gets to have the satisfaction of telling him to take an intergalactic hike.
Nah, I'm setting her canon point during New Moon and Bella realizes she's an idiot teenager who was ready to make a decision that should absolutely not be made at 17. She's a human, and learning the advantages of being human. Since it's panfandom, I was debating having her know someone from the Imperium, but my only lined-up Imperium OC is a chaos-fallen Sororitas that actively shames her sisters because "actually, maybe things should change. maybe they'll be better." is open heresy.

But the idea of her being some sort of person immune to the eldritch horror of the world because she's effectively Soulless and cannot be impacted on that level seems like a really fun idea. And if Edward showed up, she'd probably just shrug and go "yeah that's the guy I wanted to date in high school" but now that she's 25, she doesn't really find a 17 year old boy physically or emotionally attractive. I'd probably want a Charlie more than any Cullens, or maybe even a grown-up Jacob.

okay so i like, read this while on call with my friends and we are all extremely morbidly curious (in a good way) to see how this would be played out. as a lover of playing middle aged men and shitty dads, i would love to play charlie swan for you if i knew absolutely anything about warhammer 40k. i am warhammer-curious but the amount of stuff for it is highkey overwhelming lmao

reminds me that i was going to make Bella Swan as a Blank, Warhammer 40k style-- AU where Edward never came back, Bella grew up and realized she didn't need him, and also now she's on a world where being immune to psychics is uniquely useful.
