tbh i think being beginner friendly is just a very personal thing that changes from site to site. you have time, and so do your members, to help a newbie out? slap that beginner friendly tag in there. you are all too busy and you know a beginner will have problems finding threads or guidance? say that it's not.

there is no right or wrong, or how sites should be. every site, every staff and memberbase is different and if it doesn't fit, it doesn't. in an ideal world, everyone would have free time and patience for newbies but that's just not how life works.

this isn't as black and white as some people here make out to be. if you have the time, good for you, but people who don't have that are not necessarily doing things wrong. it just means everyone has different schedules and sometimes sites/communities are better suited for one than the other.

one day i'll sit down and actually learn grid. ...today is not that day tho qwq
cssgridgarden.com/ - enjoy!

also small addition but cssgrid.io/ is also a really good source. its 4 hours free content on just grids, all subtitled, very in-depth and not dry at all.

if anyones also interested, the creator, wes bos, also has videos on javascript & css flex as well.

I think sites should have a little section in rules/guidebook along the lines of "site culture." It could outline if it is more conflict or slice of life, how often to expect events or plot advancements from staff, how long people post on average, how often they post (e.g chill site or fastpaced), if it is good for beginners etc. Basically the overall vibes but not necessarily guidelines.

it is not about making money, it's about especially tech industry having shifted massively during the pandemic years, in a rather unsustainable environment. proboards had financial struggles during the time (they said it was a dramatic drop), and they had even launched contributors programmes to help pay for their salaries pre-being bought out. there have been a lot of cases like this during the covid times.

it does, however, mean that, these acquisitions and employees are now being laid off. the inflation is too high, the economy is uncertain worldwide and there's hardships everywhere. vertical scope (owners of pb) has 60-70% stock price drops and 23% layoffs, even big companies like microsoft are laying off 10k, metaverse for 11k+ and so on. google any company and you will see the similar major drops in stocks, big layoffs, even closing services or inflated prices compared to before.

it is not profits for companies, large or small, but layoffs and closures for stability and survival. especially in the tech industry.
You do realize that the entirety of proboards was run by 9 people, just 9. Not 100, not 10k, nine dedicated people filled with passion and love for their platform. They've been working on version six for years now, and were really excited only to as you say get bought out and now a project they have been working so hard on is magically off the table permanently, when it was so close to release.

I don't believe at all that it's not about making money. I'm not blaming the 9 dedicated people. I'm blaming the massive company who bought them out and pulled the plug on something that they had poured their hearts into. For, and I quote, it not making money, because money is the only thing big companies care about.

Even nine people only need salaries, though? They slowed down, mentioned financial struggles, opened up donations and finally got bought and said the contributions went to paying their employees. This is all in the link I used as a reference.

And yes, economic environment affects every company, my point was “it is a risk even for giants, let alone smaller ones.” But sure, lets look at it that way: here is an exhaustive list of a good chunk of companies that laid off employees, shut down branches and you can see its between 7-20% for most part. Some are only 30~ people, some 10k+, but everyone is affected by it. You cannot deny the global-wide financial struggles.

I also realise peoples need to put money on the table, not just their passion and love for their craft. A company, even a small one, is not a charity unfortunately. It was likely survival then for them as it is now for the buyers (seriously, shares going down that badly is massive). There is a reason why most hosts are paid.

I understand that this is a big loss for people who were excited about the new features promised, but as someone who wasn't huge on the functionality changes in the V6 beta and feared the massive loss of old forums as they were intended to be viewed that happened between V4 and V5... man, this is genuinely a weight off my chest.

Here's to hoping that, without the threat of potentially needing to massively overhaul your site with a mandatory version conversion, more people will feel comfortable RPing on and making new Proboards RPs. ;u;b
I get your concern about overhauls. But I don't see this as a good thing at all. I see it entirely as the reality of proboards recently being bought out. They were so close to done, and now the entire project has been scrapped, for no doubt making 'money' rather then improving the platform. I dread the future of proboards. No good has ever come from small passionate companies being absorbed into massive drone companies.

when youre really into something and want to talk about it all the time but also don't want to look too clingy and enthusiastic because it can be overwhelming especially on a discord.

how tf do you balance it.

so my friend sent me a disc link. and i hadn't talked to them in 5eva so i was like ya sure ill join 2 support u.

nxt thing i know my acc has been taken over and my friends list has been spam sending this 2 every1.

so if i sent something to you ignore it and i apologize.

moral of the story: if an old old old friend reaches out 2 u, just pretend u never saw the msg.

my friend i talk to v often did this and i thought it was just whatever -- it was not whatever, but i was fast enough.
be careful w it and change password, check logged in devices, authorised apps and stuff and enable 2fa and you should be fine though.
also it targets primarily those with nitro, so, yeah.
