Personally, I think a bit of competition helps. It can hurt, but it might also increase your flow of traffic (especially if you have affiliates of a similar genre/story/et cetera).

I'm a huge fan of dragon age and I kinda been having ideas about making one but what direction I wanted to go in. I've come up with a few ideas with the veil and elvish lore along with humans and magic etc... I just have not pulled the trigger yet. I was even making a skin for the site before I even started to really sit down and talk about what I wanted to do and what characters are going to do and such. I'm a big supporter of this however if you guys are planning to head in a different direction I understand and I will just do my idea.
