at the point where i wonโ€™t read anything labeled a booktok book on principle (myorar and mona awad novels asideโ€ฆ)
no bc why are they all bad. every fiction book (and even a few nonfic) have been utterly terrible. Like the actual quality of the writing is objectively terrible, but because it has porn and tropes people like, it becomes popular. there are very few people online i trust for reviews, and literally none of them read fiction. i am starving

i like Ashley from Bookish Realm for my book recommendations, but yeah, otherwise I'm not on board with a lot of booktube or booktok influencers.

i need to find a horror booktuber that doesn't just read Stephen King and it might have to be me. this isn't a dig at stephen king btw-- just that if you're gonna recommend stephen king to me, i'm going to stare at you for 20 minutes and then say "wow i have never heard of that book, where did you discover it." i do not need stephen king recommendations. i know who he is. i have read so many of his books. you do not need to tell me a damn thing about him.

gonna plug Bookish Realm if you're interested in reading more bipoc stuff. i've found a ton of good books thru her.

as a (former/retired) stephen king enjoyer, i understand your pain 100%. i love horror and it's my favorite overall genre of fiction. i read it often when i read fiction (which has been happening less and less these days) but i struggle to find anything that really stays with me. unfortunately, fiction doesn't scare me anymore like it did when i was younger. like not to be one of those annoying people who boasts about nothing being scary, but also nothing scares me; and i WISH it did. i desperately want to feel an emotion other than irritation with fiction. literally begging and pleading. but a lot of the stuff i've read that's been published in the last handful of years or so either feel flat, or they fall flat. or it's just really racist for some reason. that happens a lot too.

it's starting to kill my enjoyment of consuming horror in this format, honestly.

VOLITION [Medium: Success]
The moment I thought I could finally have some time to myself, sit down, and just be productive I discovered that, thanks to the last few days of nonstop rain, the ants have infiltrated my home and discovered my slightly sticky honey jar and decided to host a party in my kitchen.

They're finally gone now. But only at the expense of me cleaning the house from top to bottom like a paranoid neat freak until every surface smells like lemon-scented Ajax spray.

what do you want to know? my height, hobbies, quirks, the color of my underwear?
my coworker today: man, if there's one thing i've learned since starting to work at court, it's that people don't read or write

me, having been very online for over 15 years now: first time?
