(edit: this is more of a thought train in response to what jungler and kuroya were talking about. tho not a direct quote bc i could be missing context.)

(edit #2: not trying to excuse or make light of people who write anything that is illegal (esp. regarding minors) or against proboards/jcink tos. šŸ’€ seeing the reply after mine, not sure if that was towards me or if i gave that impression. what i'm talking about is written topics depicting abuse, mental illness, kinks, racism, etc. within a legal context.)

i can get behind people protecting their own interests and avoiding topics they do not wish to see. whether it skates the surface or so extreme it could be pure unadulterated shock value. there are things i don't want to read or write if i can help it. but i'm such a huge advocate for not assuming bad opinions of people for what they write if it's allowed. unless it's against a rule or the person isn't being responsible (proper labels & warnings, respecting others if they're asked to not discuss it in chat or post in tagging), does it really make them deserving of being shunned or isolated without a second thought?

i would like people to think about that question.

it might be brazen and assuming of me to say but it's reminding me of high school politics. like the 'ick you dress weird and act a little weird' that leads into bullying behavior. even if it's not direct, i think the indirect methods of ignoring and pushing someone away can be just as harmful.

the way i think is: i might not like that some people write unfaithful relationships, but i don't think it's right to assume they're a bad person for doing so. if they aren't trying to force me to like it or participate in those plots, it's not my place to tell them what to do.

again, i completely understand and get behind setting hard boundaries if the person in question is an extreme case of pushing their interests onto people or enjoy writing a concerning topic a little bit too much. that should warrant a bit of 'side-eye' and potential expulsion of the individual off the specific platform. even encouraging them to seek help or alert authorities if it's serious.

in terms of ratings... i haven't seen it matter much regardless of the 3/3/3 slap or defining what is or isn't allowed. i've come to experience that there's not really much you can write so long as it makes (1) person uncomfortable. even if it's allowed. i've had people read my posts / threads heedless of the warnings. even to go as far as to block me & complain to staff without a word to me. whether it was from smut or something like an abuse depiction between two adults. :skull:

i could've been in the wrong places. but the current wave has felt very 'walking on eggshells' for some time.

*comes walkin' in the saloon with the cowboy outfit on*

word vomit in spoiler. prob is nothin' i ain't said before.

hi. i'm late. (maybe).

i think the lack of sites being made or sticking around for longer periods of time has a lot to do with the lack of attention spans as well as a high demand for instant gratification. a lot of people desire (or even need) fast turnaround on things like posts or events. seldom few are content with waiting or taking it slow. this is something that is more of an overall societal issue, not excluded to only the roleplay community.

aesthetics are important but i think so long as the information needed to read is easily accessible, lack of an amazing skin can be overlooked by more of us than we might realize. like jungler, i couldn't count on all my fingers the amount of times i've clicked off a site that i would have joined if not for the font size being too small or the colors being too saturated. people don't even need to know how to code to remedy this on a free skin. a lot of coders who make free skins offer free assistance. as well as the swell of other coders in the community who might lend their aid.

what i see a lack of from sites in modern time is loyalty and true investment. as soon as activity gets low, people tend to abandon their creations or seek other sites right away. i started back in 2018 and joined a forumotion site (with a basic, somewhat ugly skin) i followed until it's perceived death earlier this year. we had a solid community who stuck around and wrote, even at the lowest points of it's activity. even through some serious drama. this went on into our adulthood. everyone had their hearts in that site and were committed to keeping it alive. not to say that level of commitment doesn't exist (looking at sites like you, hoenn, going strong!!!). but it's not something i've seen as commonplace in my more recent experiences.

though, i haven't been in the scene on public forums in a year now? so not sure how the current forecast is. i might be outdated on the current flow.

regardless, i think a lot of these issues people voice can be fixed (even my own). it's just the matter of pushing the envelope. staying positive. and bringing what you desire into reality.

also, on topic but off topic... i'd love to see people bring back transferring ownership of sites??? like, if i get tired of running my site and a member wants to take over, i'd hand it over on a silver platter. keep that shit alive for yourself and everyone else. pass the torch back or to someone else when you get tired too. i'll be honest, it can be a little messy but i've rarely seen it go so poorly that it was too detrimental.

seconds seemed like an eternity in that moment when her hands touched the glass. every fiber in his body ā€” no ā€” his being urged him to make distance. and he is reminded of the natural order. how some things could never come to pass. like commanding the tides to rise and fall at the same time or a woman meeting a man with the first touch. an impossible feat and a mistake that cost their eldest brother an eternal life worth living.

it spelled certain doom. a fate that took no prophecies or chance to stumble upon. the choices were clear ā€” as clear as her beauty in the mirror.

perhaps, he knew how she felt. the mother of destined death, banished by her kin to a kingdom of bones prepared for her long before she was born. he had been sent to a desert, longing for the warmth he had been denied for so long.

acceptance.

and it did not matter now if she loved him for a day or forever or at all.

i don't think you're alone. the reason i had to step away from public rp is because the people i found myself on the site(s) with posted daily & some expected high turnaround too.

some advice to counteract your dilemma is that i suggest joining multiple sites at once or participating in a lot of threads on the site(s) you're on with different people. it might seem chaotic but if you can organize it in a way that works for you, i believe it would give you the posting volume per day that you desire.

hear me out:

as someone who uses free-to-use ai to roleplay with (to clarify: i write with the ai), a lot of them really aren't as bad as people claim it is when it comes to writing. a lot of these bots that i've used are near as good as actual people. the writing you get is rather simple. less creative and flowery than an actual person could get. i doubt ai will get to that point any time soon, if at all. regardless, some people (me) write in a similar way.

these are developed by roleplayers/independents (not large corps), providing for other roleplayers for free without subs (sometimes they do) or ads too! like... not even using something like chatgpt from the tap. granted, i would never use it to generate posts for someone as i find that disrespectful.

regardless, i think it is near impossible to discern who is using ai or not in terms of writing. like i said, there are bots that are real good. if you go through the typical flaws, such as slight repetition, some of those are prevalent in human error too. trying to fish out who is replying using ai or not will end up turning into a toxic practice real fast.

i'm always on the stance of like... just let people do what they want to do. if it makes them happy and doesn't harm in a way that is physicall/mentally damaging, then don't waste your energy. you can't control others' actions, just your own.

if you don't like ai, don't use it. sign petitions against it. write with people that have the same views as you do as they likely will not use ai to write their posts. try not to let fear consume you over what other people are doing that doesn't outright harm you. if ai dies out as a technology, it does and that's great! means it wasn't as innovative as we thought and as a people, we'll move onto the next idea. if it stays, then it'll get better and you might even get an ai that can identify potential ai responses / artworks if it doesn't already exist. it'll likely become a part of our daily lives like computers did and cellphones.

technological development in the world can be scary and it very well is (i am, personally, very concerned about cyber security and fear that). so, i get it.

*breathes*

obsessing over the idea of light does not equal good, nor does dark equal bad in dark souls + elden ring. as i play through this dlc, all these similarities and crossovers just jump out to me like little friends.

how the death and the aspects of chaos and darkness go hand in hand with the core of humanity.
