i know i'm going to be on the probably really unpopular side of this topic, on a more personal level for rp, i don't really watch that much anime to begin with or dive into the world of gacha games, so my knowledge of animanga fcs is very limited beyond the popular ones. ai generated pics capture almost exactly what i want and i can get variations of them instead of just reusing the same pic for every single image field. they're pretty much my last resort in the event i can't find something that doesn't fit the description of what my character is.

that said, i also don't mind if a site bans ai generated pics as well as i am 100% against the idea of using them to make a profit. obviously, you're making money off of someone's hard work by using ai to create art from someone else's style, so that's a big no no for me. on a hobbyist level, again, i prefer to use them IF i do not find a picture that fits into my envisioned character.
nothing is worth stealing off the hard work of other people, not even your idealized vision for the sake of your hobby. Just use aesthetics, of be satisfied with using the same crop. If you’re bothered that much for using the same graphics, it’s worth learning to just let it go and be satisfied

There’s no acceptable reason at all to use a machine that rips off the work of artists without their permission whatsoever

Edit: better yet, commission an artist to draw your ideal art if it matters that much to you

to add onto the whole commission aspect, vgen is a pretty solid site to find quality commissions in a variety of price ranges. they have a discord as well that has a lot of activity. while i'm far from an anti-ai person, i am for supporting artists of all skill levels when it is financially feasible.

i think the genres that are more common in the 'animanga' scene interest me a lot more than 'real life' communities. especially when it comes to fandom content. since we put our characters in illustrated lenses, it makes it easier for me to vibe with fantasy and sensitive topics as it is so far detached from reality. i can definitely relate with the whole... creating animated scenes / worlds in my head 24/7. as well as finding it easier to make friends as we tend to share very similar interests (ie. being gamers and/or liking anime to being with).

i've been in the community for a long time regardless so there is a semblance of comfort to it too. also, i have never quite stepped into the 'real life' community. so i can't speak too much on how much i'd like it in that crowd.

A soul eater, any of the persona 3, 4, 5, golden, .hack//sign or inuyasha ( i started working on one long, long ago but idk if i have the courage to ever open it to the public ) themed rp site.

inuyasha has me strangled by the neck fr. i ran a feudal site inspired by it a long time ago and god... was that the most fun i've had in a while.

muse, inspiration, or excitement (whatever you call it) for roleplaying has been really difficult for me to muster these days. between the hauntings of bad experiences or the whole "where did all my close friends go".

what i feel like i need is a friend to help me push myself. but it's hard not feeling like i have that with anyone anymore, and having to do it by myself. :weary:

also... been wondering if working on my own site and trying to focus on that is the way to go. or not. LOL

I cannot express how happy I am to see all of this input from the P2 member base. I'm in the works of creating a new forum myself, and while essentially all of my preferences align with what Jcink offers, the admin interface can be a bit daunting. Even while being familiar with JS, HTML, and CSS, piecing together where everything is in the admin can definitely feel a little jarring. PB site creation is definitely easier from what I could see, but Jcink just offers so so much more.

it's def worth learning and if you ever need any help, there are plenty of people here who would be more than happy to lend a hand. i might not be available all the time but feel free to reach out to me. if you want to add / message me abt it, i'm porsef on discord. :)

this hobby is hard with a full time job. finding time to be active feels near impossible. esp when i don't work from home or can use my phone / work computer for personal matters. and once i'm home... my brain is tired from all it had to do all day.

disclaimer: i haven't used proboards in a long time so my information on it may be dated / incorrect. also, i have a clear preference.

now, i might miss a few things but here are the pros and cons i have:

proboards
pros
- beginner friendly control panel and basic customization for forum creators.
- has a library to easily find and upload plugins/scripts and themes for anyone to use.
- custom domain support, albeit for a monthly fee.

cons
- some of its features are restricted by pay requirements such as the amount of plugins.
- does not offer the ability to include mature content, even with payment.
- html support in posts requires a plugin and learning a new language based in bbcode to implement your templates.

jcink
pros
- all of its features are free to use and customize.
- html is supported on most, if not all pages.
- has a lot of quality of life features baked in such as sub-account switching through a dropdown.
- offers mature content, albeit for a monthly fee.

cons
- plain control panel and non-previewed customization which (based on feedback i have seen people say) can be intimidating for forum creators.
- difficult to find scripts or themes if one doesn't know where to look. the access to this information is scattered and even gated.
- custom domains are fickle and have little support. john doesn't seem to be in any rush to get these working at 100% either.
- some scripts / features that proboards has are just not available.

palworld has me hook lined and sinkered. it hits a lot of my open world survival wants minus a few qol things.

even if the game stays early access for years like craftopia, i know they'll likely keep updating and fixing it so i'm chill with that.

nah bc if someone takes my toji from jjk im going to challenge them to duel me to the death like the galliant knight that i am. /j (kind of, maybe, not really)

regardless, i can agree w some of these posts where i ain't ever see anyone argue over an fc. maybe when i was 13 and we all used the same three "anime emo girl/boy" pictures for our vampire demon lords. but even then we just used a different recolor / edit and called it a day. genuinely surprised and did not know it was still an issue or that serious of one.

the only time i've ever seen any toxicity over the issue, it is when someone inactive asf takes an fc that someone else wants. that grinds even my gears but i'm guilty of it moreso as of late. but most of the time it is like... in private dms.

i play the same oc roster 90% of the time because i love playing them. who i use can vary on my mood or the setting.

also, why would i create another character with the same archetype / overall personality when i can repurpose the one i already have and love? helps me develop them better because i can shove them into multitudes of different situations.

tl;dr for me, it is the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and the "reduce, reuse, and recycle" mentality.
